what's up with the statues?

I was wandering through tamriel doing the psijic skill line and there are statues everywhere, from the deepest cave to the highest mountain, every ten steps you come across a statue.

Is it some kind of developer fetish?

It would have to be photoshopped. Clearly the statement is a huge exaggeration from what is actually in game.

Statues are part of each races' culture. They add flavor to the world.
