Play it like you are reading a book.. Each quest is a new page.

I never get tired of reading stories. I don't play ESO for difficulty i play them to follow the stories and to socialise. If i wanted a hard game i'd go play Dark Souls or Bloodbound.. Which i detest..

Gotta say Ravenspire has been the best story so far, started out slow but the lead up and final acts were great.

I would love to be able to immerse myself in this games quests and story but I just cant because of how easy the overland stuff is. Any advice you guys can give me, or should I stick with playing single player games to quench my thirst?

This games not really built for the overland questing, Even the story of the quests isn't engaging, Its an MMO for a reason. If you want immersiveness stick to skyrim.

I and many others have been complaining about this for awhile.

My only advice would be to go after the World Bosses while you quest. Those are challenging enough to make for an interesting fight. At least that's what I do. It helps to break the monotony of mindlessly slaughtering everything that gets in your way.

What rewards, exactly? A green non-set helmet? A sword from the Wilderqueen's Arch set? 150 gold? There are very few quest rewards that are useful in any of the game's challenging content.

What? Davon's Watch drops Indoril Pyrostaff. Sure, it's defending, but with transmutation now, a Silks of the Sun Flame inferno staff is a good drop. Story quests in Bangkorai drop 7th Legion Greaves, Shield, Sword.

I think what you mean is that there are very few that are useful to you.

    I completely agree.

When i first started playing when ESO was new questing was a bit of fun, since it was quite hard and I died quite a lot. Maybe because my build was terrible, I didn't use food, or I just sucked, or maybe because the game actually was harder back then.

Now I max CP and every time a new chapter is released I would love to enjoy the content, but it's just too easy. You steamroll over groups of mobs, killing the quest bosses in a few seconds.

The only quests I do nowadays is the ones that reward skill points on completion.

If you already have high CP chars questing is very boring... not because of the quests, it's mainly the difficulty.... There's no sense of danger anywhere. The only time you die overland, is if you accidentally run off a cliff, go AFKfor a few minutes parked at a spawn location.

Overland enemy encounters solo is average. 3-4 seconds, even trolls gargoyles and quest bosses.

    So.....

I really do hope that they add some kind of vet mode for overland content, so you at least can feel a bit of danger and get a little bit of an adrenaline rush.

What's the point of doing quests if there are no obstacles? Points are marked on your map, enemies between you and that point die in a few seconds, and hardly do any damage at all, so you can pretty much just run past them because the fights are not engaging enough to bother with.

i agree 150% with that, that's been my favorite so far !

So, to OP i'd suggest starting with this one and see. Also you only have to do around 50 quests per area to get the Tamriel hero achievement and title.

I dunno, I like the single player stuff. It's not as good as proper Elder Scrolls, but it's okay.

...Oblivion isn't on that list. You HAVE played Oblivion yeah?
Say NO to Crown Crates. Crown Crates are Loot Boxes. Loot Boxes are gambling. Zenimax makes enough money off us.

I fail to understand how story and content difficulty are related. If you want to follow the quest story lines - and many are quite good in ESO - just follow the story (which BTW, is still best done in the original order.) For the sake of getting enjoyment out of progressing the story what difference does it make if the mobs along he way die in one or 10 hits?

Would you read a book, say Dragonlance series (Sorry if you haven't read it), where for 3 books the heroes killed lowly kobolds, newborn draconians, and local ruffians. No one ever really breaking a sweat. Most so easy the party let's Tasselhoff kill them all. Then the companions get to Tahhesis the Dark Queen and have Tanis Half-Elven throw one dagger and end the world threatening menace before anyone unsheathes their blade.Does that sound like a story that would keep you immersed and that you'd like to read? Right now most quest endings are equivalent to that. I drop 2 AOES rapidly and maybe a class single target and the World Eater is dead. He hasn't even got off his throne yet.

I like a good story. I really enjoy a good MMO quest that is both mentally and fighting challenging. Now we all know most of the mental work in todays MMO are pretty non existant. I mean the quests tell you which way to go, exactly where to pick it up, and where to depsoit. Pretyt mindless. Now the fighting doesnt have to be a challenge all the way through either, even though a little sprinkled in would get me excited. One of my main complaints though is the finale of the quest. The bandit leader/beast that has killed all of the local lords best men, the ones that are littered all the way through his lair, he needs to prove to me he/it earned it's title of being the badass. If that falls flat in a fighting quest (not a pick flowers for my dead lover one), in my opinion the quest has failed to make me feel like the hero.

If OP really wants hard questing I agree with others

Turn off Quest helpers. No map. No mini map. Maybe quest log, but only when you actually pull it up, and not just on screen telling you "DO X THEN Y GET Z REWARD". Just bare needed things to see. Restrict yourself to never using a way shrine. If you die strip your gear and re gear <Unless in a instanced 4 man dungeon/PvP of course>. Do each dolmens once and only once per zone. Its how older games did it, and those quests were much harder without all the info there.

That ought to slow down your leveling quite a bit.

That is harder than any "lets add hp" will ever do.

I'm confused. You speak of immersion, yet relate this to combat ease. Why does one affect the other? If the goal is to obtain the story, wouldn't the combat be more of an unnecessary burden to address to complete the story?

Oh, I'm not criticizing you, just trying to help understand the true issue. If combat is a problem, that should be easy to resolve by "dumbing down" your gear, but I don't think even this will help given the experience you've gained from PvP will make even world bosses easy.

Playing against AI is no replacement for playing against another player.

So my advice: ignore the "combat" and focus on the story. At least the combat will go quickly as compared to a new alt.

To crank up difficulty on overland would be akin to nerfing difficulty in the Trials to accomodate the overlanders.
Only if it were non-optional. Another way to look at it is that group content already has an option between normal and vet modes, while overland content forces everyone into normal mode. I don't think any of us wants everyone, regardless of preference, to be forced into playing pre-nerf Craglorn. But I do think the time spent making a vet overland option would be dev time well-invested.

The only reason I can think of that a casual player would have to oppose this is that a casual player would prefer dev time be invested in things they'll enjoy, not content designed for other people. But that's just a version of "*** you I've got mine", so I don't take that too seriously.

ESO is not instanced individually and as such it would create a more complex situation server side to start creating different general instances at different difficulty levels.

It is clear the servers barely handle things as they are. Zos knows better than to add more load and more chances for things to go wrong.

I'll agree with you that their servers can barely handle what they have now.

I wonder though, just how much horsepower it takes. The only reason I say that is some of the older MMOS did use multiple difficulties for their instances and seemed to do fine with older tech(City of Heroes, Age of Conan, EQ2 if I remember right, Others I'm sure I'm forgetting). If something like this was feasible I'd like to think ZOS is smart enough to upgrade to accommodate the load. Then again it might not be as simple as adding more hardware and I'd hate to see more issues introduced, especially for the console players.

I just finished Clockwork City and got plenty of Set quest rewards. Not every quest reward is a non set item, same as with dropped items. The gold doesn't matter, I don't aim for Trials as endgame, my endgame is enjoying PVP, which I do fine in I guess simple sets (Unfathomable, Livewire and a Monster set) Procs for BGs.

I am a crafter and improvement from green to blue is basically nothing. If I like the item I take it to purple.

Would rather get it at 50/160. Than deconstruct it.

I started in 2017, I got to level 50 and 160, while only beating Daggerfall Cov questline, Main questline and some PVP. I saved the mainquest line and Fighters guild main quest line turnins til 50/160, because I wanted to keep those items. Now any more quests I do during Caldwells, I can bank it if I like it. I stopped Cadwells to complete Clockwork, when ESO Plus was free, as I only have Gold edition, Morrowind and Summerset.

Now I am completing Cadwells AD, then EB... then will progress thru the DLCs I own.

I am saving stuff for my alts, as I created a guild for the bank space. So I have the space to save items.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

Let's be absolutely honest though, no one plays a RPG or MMO and intentionally chooses the worst gear we have in our packs to play the game in (except for my character looks. See below B) ). No one, No game. I mean I'm a fashion hound when it comes to how my characters look in game and I've been known to let a piece or two slide because it has the look I want (back in the old days) as long as it's not too low. If it was too low, even my coolness was put aside for effectiveness.

I mean I'm a fashion hound when it comes to how my characters look in game and I've been known to let a piece or two slide because it has the look I want (back in the old days) as long as it's not too low. If it was too low, my coolness was put aside for effectiveness.

Dark souls wants a word. (Those games were harder than any TES experience)

Take off the gold gear. Use iron swords, and leather armor. Unallocate CP. Problem solved, you're welcome.

The game isn't an RPG anymore then.

Picking the gear to suit the role you want to play is the essence of an RPG. No where is it said that you have to have the best gear and be the most powerful. If you want to be less god like or more god like, that is up to you.

haha you know I think I remember seeing that and was like WTF!

Oh I know people do naked dungeons runs and all kind of stuff out of either sheer boredom or just trying to be that guy to push the limits but sane folks like to have some damn armor on lol

I've always loved playing RPGs throughout my life and enjoyed the story's great games tell like Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Morrowind. I have been playing this game for 3 years primarily in PvP and some trials/dungeon content. I know there is a ton of questing content packed into this game and even more so since I have eso plus. I would love to be able to immerse myself in this games quests and story but I just cant because of how easy the overland stuff is. Any advice you guys can give me, or should I stick with playing single player games to quench my thirst?

Build a questing specific build that will not turn you into an overpowered character. Or play with only your weapons on, without food/drink buff, and without CP. There should be an option to turn CP off so we won't be spending gold just to remove the points.

There are actually quests/stories that I enjoy a lot in this game.
