Well, the banner up top did say that maintenance would be today.

Why Kai Schober, who seems to be restricted to the German forum in his official capacity, is the only ZOS employee able or willing to give any additional info though...Beats me. Can't be that hard to put up a notice "data center maintenance yadda yadda, expected to be up about late afternoon CEST/before noon EST".

I meant: If it will be on a different day than normal and not a patch or normal maint but something different (and potentially all day/night), I think an announcement should be made.

5 hours and counting...i was occupied last nite, so didn't notice that they started the maintenance 2 hours earlier than normal, and it's not ID'd as a "patch" maintenance either...did they give any indication on why it started earlier, and why it's taking so long for a non-patch maintenance? could this be because of the upcoming end of mayhem and beginning of wrothgar events?

This is made worse by the fact that zenimax online unlike literally every other mmo around wont provide an estimate on how long servers will be down for, which would allow us to plan around it.

Back when when they launched they tried to give estimates, and consistently went over them. So now they don't bother setting themselves up to be liars.

I wish they could give accurate estimates and go down for shorter maintenances... but ESO is not WOW. That can be both a good and bad thing. Just gotta appreciate it for what it is I guess... and hope it will continue to improve. Or go play something else.

This is Akamai who run the datacentres doing the maintenance. ZOS are NOT the only customer affected. Like has already been said, expect up to 9 hours downtime, which brings us to 3PM UTC.
