Character Creation Request

Att: ZOS Team and Effected Players

Two major issues (please add more if you had others) effected character creation today that is leaving a permanent scar on the characters we intend to play for a very long time to come.

1) We were not able to zoom in on our characters to customize the face. This is a brand new bug, never experienced in all my time on the PTS and weekend betas, and no one was prepared for it. Something of a workaround was figured out much later, but at that point it was already too late and it didn't even work for some. Now we have a large population of players that aren't satisfied and are basically stuck with what we 'guestimated', by the fully zoomed out view.

2) The voice choices either did not play at all or were playing the wrong sound when clicking on them. The results varied by player. I chose the exact same voice I always choose, and in game my character now sounds high pitched and very different from ever before. I've made tons of characters all with the same voice, but now suddenly it has changed. Every grunt, yell, laugh is difficult to listen to, as it's just not what I chose.

I realize it is not currently coded in to the game, but please consider adding the ability, if even for a one time change, to alter our creation choices for these characters that we have not put plenty of time in to, and expect to play for a very long time to come.

Otherwise this has been an amazingly smooth launch. Minus one major quest, today has been one of the smoothest launches, I've ever been a part of.

As it turns out we had three people within our guild alone that deleted their characters after they had a chance to see them up close, to try again. They had opened their mail, and lost all of their preorder items upon deleting the first botched character. So this particular issue also helped create a much larger issue that you all are dealing with now.

i can't stress this enough. The launch was smooth compared to other experiences, but i really don't want to delete a character i've spent my whole sunday with.

Zoom was broken for me also. I got my character to look how I wanted but would of liked to zoom in and tweak the appearance a bit, but couldn't see close enough.

It is the only minor issue I've come across so far from my personal experience playing. The game is fantastic so far, very well done!
  • Randy_Randal
Yes please. Give us a reroll on the characters to make up for the bumpy launch.

On my first character yesterday the face zoom didn't work. Then today I was in character creation and the face zoom worked. Either it was a random bug, or it has been fixed.
  • Randy_Randal
Yes its a confirmed bug. The zoom works now, but I can't log back onto my original character instead. Yay me.

The zoom does not work only for the first character. Once you create at least one, it starts working.
I had the same issue in my first beta.
My guess is this bug was also on PTS but the people didn't notice it as they were making chars like there's no tomorrow and this happens only with the first one.

Thanks Runihura for this post. I wanted to write something similar and was happy someone had done it before me.

People who weren't happy with their character looks were afraid to delete it and reroll for several reasons:

    1. They were afraid to lose the preorder / Imperial edition items. We know that many people who did delete their characters lost the items.
    2. They were afraid their desired character name would be taken by the time they recreate the character.
    3. They were afraid to get stuck in a queue when trying to log back in.

Please give us a chance to change the look of our characters, at least those rolled while the zoom bug was present. I remember EverQuest II offering such an option for free. It shouldn't be hard to implement code-wise.

Rift also has that option for a modest in-game currency fee. It is reassuring for people who want to tweak the features of an established character without having to delete it entirely and start over from level 1. I for one would welcome such an option.

The character creator is somewhat primitive and not what you'd expect for a AAA title launch.

    - Hair colors that change hue and even the entire color when you switch hairstyles. (red should not change to light brown, for example)
    - Sliders need identifiers at each 'stop' to help players determine what setting they're using for a given look. Numbers or names for each one would go a long way to helping during character creation, especially if you want to use similar settings between characters.
    - 'Head Marking' needs to be split into more categories. Lip and eye color need to be removed from this catch all, and given their own slider, and all three need a color slider/wheel to improve their utility during character creation. More options are always better than less.
    - 'Body Marking' needs a color slider/wheel.
    - 'Voices' needs something other than repeating 'laughter' to properly gauge what a given voice sounds like. A few spoken words instead of endless maniacal laughing or screaming would be more helpful. The 'choices' currently available all mostly sound the same when screaming or laughing, especially on the female elven races. Several of the females sounded like they had far too much testosterone in them.
    - 'Face Type' needs some sort of indicator, be it a hex setting at the bottom, or numerical indicators next to each of the points on the triangles, so that the settings have some sort of meaning, other than dragging a dot around the screen in the box. If you want to create another character with a similar facial structure, or perhaps a friend wishes to use some of the same settings you have, there's no way to determine what you did, other than trial and error. (The same thing applies to all of the settings, really. There's nothing there to help you recreate a given look, other than wasting time experimenting until you find the right settings again.)
    - The skin tone selections in many cases are virtually useless, most of the time going up or down one selection makes no visible difference in tone at all.
    - Male hair styles appear to be cut and pasted directly from the females in most cases. I suppose that's awesome if you want to create a gender bender runway model, but if you're trying to create something that looks like a warrior, you don't have many options.
    - 'Adornment' contains items such as scars, facial hair, etc.. this could be split into something a little less 'catch all' and a lot more useful. Yes, technically they fit under the term 'adornment' but instead of being a useful category, it looks like someone got lazy and threw in random parts left over from something else.
Resistance is not futile! Say no to the Greed Collective™. Boycott Crown Crates.

    I completely agree with OP.

I asked info and the kind support team answered, as I expected, that there is no feature and no chance to edit a character.

Since it's a bug, anyway I hope that devs can find and propose a solution.

For the ones who started with this bug, a feature to edit character would be really important and it wouldn't be something wasted, since later on it can be added in the shop as a service to pay.

Everything's fine except the female stance. Can we please get our ladies to stand up straight during character creation? The men stand up straight and it's easy to get proportions right when creating. The women? Not to be crass, but I'm afraid I can't figure out which ass cheek and leg is the one I'm supposed to be looking at when adjusting her posterior.

"A petition is a request to do something, most commonly addressed to a government official or public entity."

Not one single person /signed this thread, and rather fully voiced their opinion as you've asked. Nitpicking the thread name isn't helping anyone, Tristan. :p

Someone in a different discussion on this same issue suggested a free makeover or something to that effect for your existing character. Or even if it did cost a few ingame gold that would be fine. Not sure how possible that is at this point. But that would resolve this whole issue. You wouldn't have to worry about deleting anything or losing the stuff you paid money for etc.

I agree with TristanK about the fact that title was not the best but I think who posted here provided the requested feedbacks and not just unconstructive posts like /signed and so on.

Since during early access we faced also many short notice downtimes, at least I hope that a chance to personalize our characters again (only face would be fine) will be considered, also because this issue arised because of a bug and of many options appearing in game as default ones, even when modified during creation.

I know that I had this issue, and I am fairly unhappy with the facial scar I ended up choosing, but I also had another issue (one that I know at least one other person who has also experienced it).

This issue is that when naming the character, the field would only accept lowercase letters. This left me with a character whose name was "first last" rather than "First Last". I would like to request that people who experienced this glitch have a choice of capitalizing their character names properly. It's very minor, but at the same time it is a huge part of my character, and I would really like for that to be fixed.

I also agree with the OP,
I also had the issue of not being able to zoom in on the first character. It would be great to have the option to change character features even if it was just once or costs in game currency.
I'm sure many would agree that being able to change character features is an important feature in any game whether it's an MMO or not. I've met many people who like to change their looks depending on new trends or inspirations (or they just get tired of seeing the same thing).
