How will TES VI affect on the TES Online?

Hello dear friends!
We are all eager to see the announced TES 6. But I have a question. Sooner or later this series of this game will step into the next era of graphic quality. How can release of TES 6 influence on online version of game? How long will TESO exist with simplified graphics and effects? Will it remain in this form for a long time as the world of warcraft or step into the future with a new series of TES?
What do you think about it?

Why does it need to? Bethesda games performance is notoriously iffy, I would rather they make a functional game than a pretty one and I allways will.

TESO has very good graphics for it's time. If you want crysis graphics, go play crysis. This is an unrealistic exectation to think a game with this many variables will have more advanced graphics.

I mean, WoW is still going strong 14 years after release, and they didn't have top-of-the-line graphics even back then. Graphics are nice, but I have a hard time seeing a mass exodus of players simply because the graphics aren't the best. New graphics typically means a new game engine, which is expensive in of itself to either buy the licensing and modify to your own needs or building one from scratch. On top of that I believe there are over 60,000,000 items and over 10,000 NPCs that are within the game. Updating graphics isn't as simple as just patching the existing game; you might as well use the money to create a new game.

@Raraaku I agree. But actually they do not need to buy a license for a new engine. They make it - themselves. I just hope that something new developed for TES 6 will go to online version.

TESO is not an Online version of TES. No matter how much ZOS keeps pushing that marketing angle.

TES6 will have zero negative effect(maybe a slight temporary dip in active players) on TESO.

The Creation engine does support Multiple players now though(See Fallout 76), so assuming they can scale that up they could move the ESO code to a future version of the Creation engine. Although this would take alot of time and money, which makes it unlikely.

Could be a way forward for the continuation of the game though, they will at some point have to decide whether they are making a new game and charging everyone again or if they are going to do a complete Graphical improvement pass on the game.

PS. WoW has done atleast one major graphical improvement pass, but with their cartoony style it will always look abit 'dated'.

problem is not so much engine as the idiotic work to update everything. Altmer furniture is an good example with its low resolution textures, it might been the first sets they made, then decided to increase quality.

We will have an rise in quality for new content.

TES 6 will be an single player game, it might have some coop but that is it.
That engine will not work for ESO with hundreds of players on screen and lots of client / server interaction.

In fact I wonder if the new engine will first be used in starfield as it involved lots of space stuff probably including high attitude flight its stuff creation engine is not designed for.

TES VI won't effect ESO at all. TES VI is at least 2 years and possibly as much as 4 years away. By then ESO will have been fixed or died out on it's own.

I think that anyone that knows how to make a MMO and do it right from the ground up are all working on kickstarter projects or are working for studios already. The consensus after the TOR debacle in the industry is they don't wanna touch a corporate-funded game .they poor blood sweat and tears into it and receive very little financial gain for their efforts. usually, the corporation kicks you out of your own project. moves in a company to develop a cash shop sound familiar? / even in the case of Bioware they will kick the founders of the company out take your IP just like EA did to the doctors. I dont think we will see another corporate-funded MMO those days are gone. even Fallout rolled back their plans to a single player online RPG. you wont see anyone do what sony did and create lets say an EQ2 . Dreamworks bought the IP for next and shut it down mid development. truthfully im glad for it im tired of CEO's ruining this genre

Actually, it is somewhat the opposite. ESO is an online version of TES, no matter how much certain fan groups keep pushing the idea that it is not.

While I want to agree with the statement about TES6 not interfering with ESO, I think that there is a good chance that TES 6 will follow Fallout 76 and be a small scale multiplayer Co-op game. The Fallout franchise is dominated by single player, like Elder Scrolls, yet Fallout 76 tossed that out and is not going to have a single player mode. If Fallout 76 is successful, there is more reason for TES 6 to follow.

TES 6 might be a successor to ESO, not Skyrim. ESO might be the last single-player friendly game in the franchise.

I don't think that Creation Engine and ZOS Engine are all that close. They probably share core concepts, and maybe even some third-party libraries, but I really don't see them sharing code. If they did, it would come from Oblivion or Fallout 3. They said that the new Creation Engine pulls technology from Id, so ZOS isn't even involved in the expansion of Creation Engine, apparently. In my mind, this is going to put the new Creation Engine into the same category as Id Tech and Unreal. I would guess that ZOS has little to offer up in terms of technology.

As for assets (art, etc) there may be some ideas that ZOS has implemented that might get used, but they will probably create their own version of that, rather than trying to move over stuff from ZOS.

TES VI is really far off, why should we waste time speculating for it, all they was an extremely short teaser, they have several project to complete before that.

I would not be surprised if it gets postponed like 20 years, I waited and waited, but no more, we have ESO, will enjoy it till it lasts.

single player games have fell off the map for the more cooperative games now. if you do get a single player game your maximum play time is gonna be 40 hrs of playtime thats it thats not even a week of playtime. mods might give it an extra 40 hrs of play time(if they even support mods for the game or not just killem out right like they did with fallout 76) so really it wont even touch this game at all. it doesnt take long for a single player game to get stale anymore.

I rotate my Elder Scrolls Games (and Fallout). Mods give them infinite playability. I'm alternating this with FO4 right now, and have heavily modded this year Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, FO3, FNV and other RPGs outside the franchise such as the new Pillars of Eternity which is next up. This is the only MMO I play, for obvious reasons (I can only sub one game at a time too). I will probably keep this until a new TES online game. Fallout 83, 73, 666 or whatever it is called will be tried once they sort out servers for mates. I'm not playing with any of you holding a nuke, I've seen what you do in Cyrodil.

I think ( and hope!) that you will see this as a gateway to a new EOS base game. Not DLC or chapter but a fully formed complete $75+ base game. It would not replace our existing game but would be complementary. It would be built from the ground up with a new engine yet would have the classic look and feel that we long time TESO gamers want.

I am not a PvP type but this could include a new joint area for that. You would need to own both games and pay for both Plus accounts. There could be a discount for owning both. Universal does thathere in Orlando with their Harry Potter attractions. In order to do all of it and to take the train between them you have to have admissions to both parks. I see many, many synergies that could benefit the sales and operations of both games.

nothing is gonna happen, also eso has simple graphic and effects due to how dense the world is. we have a ton of npc, set pieces, effect (some that change those npc/set pieces) large maps full of mobs, nodes, treasure chests, books of various glows.

ff14 1.0 had the best graphics any mmo could have with full mocap to movement. It caused the world to severely lag because it had tiny flower pots with the same data/poly-count as player characters.

MMO tend to be less graphical to fit all that with the least amount of graphical lag. high end graphics tend to cause lag and cause poping. (graphics that pop in and out from short distance)

WoW has simply graphics due to the limited zoning so you have a whole continent size maps that can hold players, npc, mobs etc.

The graphics argument is always baffling to me. You can say ESO looks "old, bad etc." but that's besides the point.

Once you get past a certain threshold graphics aren't a determining factor in whether someone will play a game or not.

As far as TES 6; it will surely pull some people away for a time, but i doubt it'll be permanent. TES 6 won't make you not like ESO and eventually people will complete TES 6 and make their way back to ESO.

Also consider timing, they won't release TES 6 a week after a big update for ESO. They will stagger it so ES 6 is released then 3-6 months later ESO gets a big patch or vice versa.

But for myself i'm not sure i'll be interested in TES 6 unless it is an entire continent. ESO has spoiled me int hat regard and I have no desire to play in a single zone again.

not really true, TES games tend to offer a lot of content even b4 mods. zelda is a pretty long game. Also there will be mods with fallout 76 just not at launch.

WoW may have a continent sized map, but tech back when they made the game would not have allowed for a single huge zone. The map is broken into small zones. They just do the zone transitions, and filtering of neighboring zone content, a lot more seamlessly than ESO does.

ESO is a game that should have had more seamless zone transitions so that one could walk from Bal Foyen to Eastmarch without a single loading screen.

Something is gonna have to happen within the next 2 or 3 years. Either a mass account transfer or a new game announced. When this gen of consoles are replaced a number of people tend to move from one manufacturer to the other. If they've said they are never doing mass account/platform transfers again, then the game will only be viable on the PC. That would be a sudden and large loss of revenue.

Erm... Well, you see, opinions are like certain body orifices, everybody seems to have one. :p

I have 1600+ hours played in Fallout 4 and I do not consider myself done with that game yet. There are so many mods I haven't tried yet. And I haven't done and seen everything in Skyrim either, not after mere 180+ hours played.

Single player games are far from dead, it is just that they do not generate the same continous stream of revenue from subscriptions and microtransactions like the online multiplayer games. Some companies want to change the mindset of players to one that would see the games as a service like any other. Anything you want, you pay for. You want it again, you pay again. No lifetime service for the meager price of the original purchase.

Sadly, this is part of the reason I have no intention of buying Fallout 76, or TES 6, if they follow in the Games-As-A-Service trend for what used to be single player games. By the time Bethesda gets done monetizing Fallout 76, I expect that you will need to have TWO credit cards on file with them, so they can roll-over when the first one gets maxed out.

I think that ESO monetization is pretty oppressive, now. I don't even want to think about what wonderful new monetization ideas will come over from Fallout 76, once that game releases.
