Is ESO the MMO with the most rude players?

My experience is ESO has one of the nicer communities. When you put millions of people together you are going to have some bad people statistically and you certainly won't get on with everyone, but if you try, you will find like-minded gamers and have a lot of fun especially if you check out Social Guilds.

EVE where infiltrating someone's solo mission to steal the quest item for ransom or laughs has become normal game play.
Don't have to deal with them tho, someone else has probably listed it on the market.

The opposite often happens: questionably useful people wait for hours for someone to kill a boss and right at the end the do a light attack so that they get the loot and some achievement. That's very annoying.

Anyway, if you can't solo that elite, why do you complain with me? Did you ask to group up? Did oyu ask for help on guilds or zone? The other guy is not rude to let you die in misirey. It's you who's being ridicolous for 1. starting a fight you can't handle and 2. blaming some other random guy.

I also play(ed) other MMORPGs from wayback DAoC(wayback in 2000), SWTOR, LOTRO, Everquest2, WOW and others and from all those games I think ESO has the most rude and inconsiderate players.

I actually left wow for eso because I didn't like the amount of kids playing on wow.

Also, in my experience, WoW had the worst players and I first played the game when it was just vanilla. I've played on both EU and NA servers and the NA by far had the rudest. But having said that, there's always going to be at least one nasty person just like in real life.

On eso, I only play on EU mainly because I have settled on living in EU from Na. And so far I haven't encountered any hostility. It seems only those who go out of their way to get attention that get the most negativity.

But to answer the question, I find the ESO community to be generally friendly and helpful.

I agree. I have been playing a certain game online for years that I probably can't mention and 99% of players on there were just the worst. So a friend suggested ESO. Now I play it more than she does XD

And after 4 pages, no sign of the OP ? @Walman ?

I agree with the many people that states that overall, ESO population is very friendly. I've received more PM for discussion, help, discussion builds, "gg" me after a fight (won or lost) than for trolling or from jerks.
In my 1000h+ hours in the game, I've seens jerks sometimes, but it's definitely not the average player. Unfortunately, some days, it's a jerk minority that does the more noise.

Nah, when you actually try to be nice to people most of the time it goes back to you. Like trying to chat with someone who rage whisped you, may end with polite and realy enjoying chat. Helping dude that has brought boss in IC to 40% solo instead of killing him etc.
I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

In WoW you get spammed with random guild invites. I find that very rude and intrusive as in ESO you just get zone messages and maybe once in a blue moon you also get a random invite. In WoW I get at least 4 invites an hour.
So, by MMO standards as far as I can tell ESO's players are alright.

Every MMO has some element of toxicity in it.

You need a thick skin and not to take things so serious.

Remember everyone is competing and that brings out the shady side of some players.

You get the good with the bad with anything. Sometimes when someone poses a question on the forums you'll get someone taking the time to post a scolding reply telling them to look it up, the same amount of time it would take to have simply answered said question.

Other times you'll run across players who are delighted to inform you of what you do not know. Just got to take the good ones with the rotten ones, in all things.

I have played on the PCEU server for a long time, 2500hrs with 13 level 50s.

I rarely run into bad people. Yes a lot of people play mmo’s as if they are in a hurry, which is fine. The game is designed so that if a chest is taken or a world boss is killed, it will respawn in minutes. The community polices itself well, people will actively call out people trying to take advantage of low level character, freely offer vamp bites, give each other a bit of food, a few soul gems, a few weapon potions if they are fighting together, even in pug groups. If you tell people you have a dungeon quest, at least one person will stay to let you hand it in.

Yes you have some people who are impatient, maybe because they have to go to work soon or whatever, but what I rarely see is people being racist in zone chat, camping world bosses, stealing stuff from people. I cannot even remember the last time I saw that. So yes, I think that PCEU is a great community.

I played on PS4 NA for about 1000hrs - it was the complete opposite, although I did meet a lot of nice people. The community did not police itself very well, and there were a noticeable amount of trolls in zone chat and dungeons. It was a lot less mature than PCEU.

So really it depends on the server you play. Every community is different, in all games. If you see anything bad call it out. If people flame you with a whisper, block them and move on. I’m sure you have better things to do then feed a keyboard warrior’s appetite xD.

The one game I've played that I felt had the most negative and rude players was League of Legend. Never again will I play that game, not even with my friends. So far, ESO isn't too bad. Still getting the mechanics of it down, somewhat. Haven't joined a guild yet, I have some reserves on joining one, plenty of bad experiences from other MMOs involving guilds. The few times I've asked questions in chat, people were nice and and answered. My usual response to a rude person is that "my block monster was feeling hungry, so I sacrificed your tiny soul to sustain it for the time being." I will admit, I am sarcastic and some people do not understand nor get sarcasm, so they think I am being rude. But I'm a nice woman, I promise!!! ;)

if i see CP300+ player fighting worldboss, i won't help him due to probability that he want to solo this boss. I maybe cast Mutagen to give him major courage and maybe throw one shard. If player is lower CP, then i certainly help.
If you cast single Mutagen they might feel wrong for your presence as your help is neither desired nor welcome. Someone who attacks WB and stay alive for long doesn't need few ticks of Mutagen, but needs no meddling.

Usually when I see someone struggling with the world boss which I already did before, I just stay away and watch till they win or die. Why should I help if they don't bother to ask for help, maybe they fight the boss to test their skills and my intervention would brake their immersion. Also my meddling is stealing kills with no effort.
Ultimately if they die they will learn that some content isn't easy. That's not rude or toxic.

With no central auction house and the way chests are set up the game is designed for rude players.

While it may be less common on pc because of addons like master merchant there are always people on xbox shouting in zone chats trying to scam noobs by offering to buy items for 1/3rd or 1/4th trader prices and if someone who knows prices happens to be in the zone and call them out, they just move to a less populated zone and shout again.

    Examples:
1: You see a chest or node but theres a mob close to it. You kill the mob and some *** takes the chest/node while you fight the mob
2: You fight a elite and its a close call, other player stands close but dont help, he waits till you die. (I always helpout when i see someone in trouble)
3: You walk up to an NPC for dialog and this other guy comes on his mount and blockes the view. (not a biggie but its annoying)

There are more small things that players do (or dont do) that drives me nuts, but you get the picture. And it happens in all the other MMORPGs I mentioned, but in ESO it seems much worse then in WOW for instance. Is my perception right or are there *** in the same numbers in all other games aswell?

BTW: I play on EU server, might be better on US?

    Regards
    @Walman

I'm not going to lie - this game does have it's share of rude, arrogant, and obnoxious players (and I"m on the NA server). I've rarely seen the kick function for example abused by as many players as I have seen it done on this game.

In my experience: only Final Fantasy 14's community competes with this one in terms of that. But there are annoying players in every game. It's just a fact of life and something players need to be prepared to deal with when playing an online game.

Just wanted to point out one thing ... if you’re not in a dungeon or PvP or questing actively but playing ESO then chances are you’re doing something mundane like crafting, just hanging out. If nothing is going on it’s easier to read the chat and if you spend that time in a starter city chances are significantly higher you will see trash in the chat box.

I highly recommend “moving” your character’s slow time to the suburbs. The town my toons live in is medium small but has all the crafting and general merchant stuff available. The chat is a veritable tea party of friendly people who have been playing a long time. Give it a try.

I do get annoyed if im soloing something and people jump in the fight on the last 13k but there is nothing I can do about it.

    1. I don't race people to nodes or whatever but if someone snakes me and it wasn't accidental then I will beat them to one or two nodes because my char is fast af without the swift trait.

    2. No one is obligated to help you with anything, and it doesn't make them rude.

    3. Those players may not be aware they're not phased out of your view like what happens when you interact with a banker or crafting table. Either that or you very well could have been blocking them. Who knows.

I forgot about one thing: Some quests are even designed to be 'competitive'. Some of the objective items are shared while in other quests you have them instanced. It can be quite annoying when there are other player around you racing you for the items and it's by design. So it's not only the players, but also the design of the game.

Speaking of node/chest stealing, I was pranked once during the first anniversary event for the one dlc map, I think theives guild? I don't remember, whatever.

But anyway, there was a chest surrounded by two mobs. I looked around and saw nobody, so I risked it and went in for it. It ended up being a master chest. I had a setup that was for running a long time fast, not fighting, so it took me a while to kill things. The second I start fighting, a guy popped up over a hill and came my direction. Of course. Shocking. He came up to me, stopped, and very slowly started walking towards the chest. Then they walked back over to me, and sprinted away.

in what way? I played a buttload of mmo, and very rare i see people give stuff out for free. If vampire and werewolf bites existed in WoW or ff14 you see ppl asking for 10K-100K depending how it is acquired.
