Is ESO the MMO with the most rude players?

Playing this game off and on since the release and I do like the game a lot. I also play(ed) other MMORPGs from wayback DAoC(wayback in 2000), SWTOR, LOTRO, Everquest2, WOW and others and from all those games I think ESO has the most rude and inconsiderate players.

Examples:
1: You see a chest or node but theres a mob close to it. You kill the mob and some *** takes the chest/node while you fight the mob
2: You fight a elite and its a close call, other player stands close but dont help, he waits till you die. (I always helpout when i see someone in trouble)
3: You walk up to an NPC for dialog and this other guy comes on his mount and blockes the view. (not a biggie but its annoying)

There are more small things that players do (or dont do) that drives me nuts, but you get the picture. And it happens in all the other MMORPGs I mentioned, but in ESO it seems much worse then in WOW for instance. Is my perception right or are there *** in the same numbers in all other games aswell?

BTW: I play on EU server, might be better on US?

Regards

Yes. I take pride in outrunning people to chests and nodes. Thx for the swift trait.

This is the friendliest game I’ve ever played and I own like 60 games. There are jerks everywhere in life but certainly no more in ESO than other places.

Side note ... I’ve noticed when posts like this come up you’ll get 90+% people saying what I just did and then someone will post 3 to 5 exact instances of people being awful to them. While there is no excuse for it, it does remind me of a meme I recently saw which basically said, “if you encounter one jerk in your day then you just happened to run into a jerk, but if everyone you encounter in a day is a jerk ... the jerk is actually you.”

After wiping several times in a vSP pug I typed the mechanics of the fight into group chat. The prompt response was "WE KNOW KID!". My prompt response was to aggro the boss, spam LA and shields until they all died again, then dropped group.

Been at this since the beta of UO (and MUDs/BBS before).

Corp Por! Corp Por! folks the “rudest” in any game. Or vultures in 0.0 space, yadda.

There are rude people every where you go in life, from every freeway in the world where people will ignore a queue, drive around it, and shove their way in at the front to folks who don’t hold an elevator or catcall a woman. It surrounds you. Hell, I’m a Shriner, which are mostly little old men who spend their retirements helping hurt children, and I’ve had to be “that guy” calling out a racist git countless times. It is everywhere.

But its also rarer than good, kind, thoughtful people. And not stopping an elevator doesn’t make someone evil any more than taking a node from you - they may be a quality person in most ways that matter.

You have to work to keep a positive view of people. I’m surrounded by retired policemen and they are the most cynical people on earth, and I’m a student of Machiavelli (true student, thesis on him blah blah) - but like any long marriage takes work, resisting cynicism does. Or every organization, game, etc has the worst people you’ve ever encountered.

I turn off zone chat as its filled with garbage, same as barrens chat used to be. Surround yourself with guildies. Focus on the helpers. Look for the kindness and good in folks, you will find it wherever in life you go.

This helping out when someone is struggling is a two-sided sword - some will be thankful but others will just be angry about you interfering, especially when you get the last hit and the loot is yours. So it dependents really, sometimes I help out, sometimes I just let them do their thing.

You can't always know whether someone really needs help or not; maybe they are practising and want to see if they can solo whatever it is you see them fighting. I can recall a few times when I was testing a build against a world boss, and possibly looking like I needed help because I'm not the greatest player, and someone decided to steam in and "save" me.

Shrug, I do too - but I’m a southern man in my 40s raised by my grandparents. It is a different age with different values.

And the new generations have their strengths that the older ones don’t. From the role of women to diversity in general to care of the environment.

So I try not to judge on what is relatively small stuff, because I recognize my own tendency to want to simply feel superior to other folks. And I certainly see that in others.

This, people sometimes get angry if you butt in on "their" fight, so I am wary of doing so if I see someone fighting an elite by themselves.

As for #3 - dialogue view spawns in slightly different places for each player so they may not realise they were blocking your view, or simply wanted to get it over with quickly themselves and didn't stop to check whether their mount might be blocking someone else's view. Could be thoughtless, but not necessarily malicious.

#1 - this is definitely antisocial behaviour.

Yeah, this is what I meant with "a two-sided sword" - some really want to do their thing and I better let them then. But when I see a newbie struggling, I step in.

Have the opposite experience, people tend to wait on delve an public dungeon bosses to other can get in hits.

They help on world bosses, both benefit here. Sure the other guy was not simply afk?
Not much he can do to help if you are almost dead unless he has heals or taunts anyway, killing it faster and you will still be dead.

Chests and resources can give a bit griefing but rare.happened a few times nothing more.

Has seen one weird asocial behavior then farming some hews band delve boss for motif. Nobody wanted to group up.
We was 8 farming the boss, 8 on an 120K boss and the boss would obviously die fast but if grouped all would get loot even if afk, no it was better to keep dot on ground all the time to get ticks nobody talked. This one ported out.

It was weird as everybody would win, not like kicking low level from an normal dungeon if you are a fake DD and want the other to be decent, yes its evil but you win on it. Got fooled on it a few times, fake tank with 9K health does not respond to food check response, vote kick come up and I assume its on tank but rather its on a poor low level guy. (learned to leave dungeon)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

on the ps4 server i rarely run into rude people. And when i do i just block them, which blocks them completely from psn.

The first time i played WoW, 5 players randomly came up to me and started to insult me. Calling me a ***, a horde *** among other stuff. when i went on to the forums to ask how to report people, i was insulted on the forums saying i had a think skin, among other things. I made mention of what was said, and I found myself temp ban for 72 hours. It took me a year to pick it back up play on and off for 2 years but only making it to 46 warlock.

What you describe is not really rude behavior. No one knows if you are going after a node or chest unless you tell them, and even then you are not entitled to them. Zenimax could make these chest/nodes for your eyes only, but having a bit of competition is not a bad thing, as it doesn't over saturate the market.

For it to be an act of rudeness, it would have been intentional. As in if you say "i'm fighting this to get that" and people take it anyway.

Also never try to fight elite mobs by yourself, it best to ask in Zone chat for help first, then go. On the server set i play on people are more then willing to help.

like vampire and werewolf bites are free from most ppl. Where if this was say... ff14 people would ask for a large sum of money for it. Speaking of... when i was new to ff14, and got my first lvl 50 (when it was the cap) i was a tank. I ran my first capped dungeon only to be told i shoulda been a stain on the bed sheets, simply because i didn't "large pull" the dungeon. (by large pulling pull from start to boss, then boss to boss) i told the group in advance i just lvled up, and it was my first time. i was told i shoulda googled the dungeon, i shoulda watched videos. At the time i was playing ff14 on ps3 and had no smartphone, tablet or even pc to access this. When i politely told them i had none. they jut scoffed and claimed i was lying.

The in game community here is awesome. I love the ESO folks I meet when actually playing.

The forums folks are generally a disaster. I have played many MMOs and even moderated official forums for other games, but I have never seen a forums community that is so quick to complain and bemoan their mentality of entitlement. ZOS is not perfect, but the amount of hate they get on these forums abiut every single topic is at a level I have never seen any other gaming developer have to deal with.

But this is as well the fault of ZOS - if they would be more communicative and not just step in to moderate a thread but actually contributing to it, this would give a much better result in terms of discussion. Their silence is what is causing these complaint storms. So it is not just us, it is as well ZOS, which is at fault here.

I played this game for a long while and gave people the benefit of the doubt and would see people fighting and not take nodes. Lived and played this way in the game for a while, but time and time again I got nodes ganked by others. I just started playing the game. No one seems to care becasue they know more than likely they will be in better position than me the next time.

As I do agree with working hard and earning your keep in real life. Working hard and earning your keep in the game works well for me. Node farming is not an example were this works. Get out and farm. The next time I am fighting a mob, the other guy will get that node and in a few min I will get the next one. No hard feeling and it works out.
