Midyear Mayhem Announced!

and i'm surprised the forums aren't blowing up. don't they usually post these at 10am?

it's July 26th until August 6th, so nearly two full weeks of Mayhem!

there will be 2 new weeklong campaigns, and they say they're ready to hang more of them if needed. this is good news for people who hate queue times. i didn't see anything about the cost of switching campaigns in there.

we'll get Pelinal's Boon Boxes from damn-near everything! every 20k AP (which happens every few minutes with the AP doubled) but also Town Quests and all the quests from the boards at your gate. you could get Swift jewelry, an Alliance motif, and a bunch of Transmute Crystals all from the same quest if RNG loves you.

one thing i didn't see is anything about the new Achievements... i noticed in my Holiday Achievements menu that 4 new Midyear achievements have been added. from the announcement, those don't seem to be associated with any new rewards (i was hoping for a shiny new title and a costume to go with my Wreath, or something). oh well.

but i'm pumped. this is my favorite holiday. last year it changed the way i approach the entire game. i haven't taken my wreath off yet, after earning it on a Templar who was below level 41 (so no Jesus Beam haha). i'm happy and i didn't see a topic. but now i've spent 15 minutes typing this on a tablet so i'm probably late now

I start my vacation on the 26th. But at least there will be a few days after that I can still participate.

Additionaly, I noted they only mentioned adding 2 7-day CP campaigns. I'm new and don't know anything about last years event, but what about the non-cp campaigns? Do those not fill up at all during this event?

The article makes it sound like it might be fun. I suck so bad at doing PVP that I most likely won't even try to do any of it.

the non-CP definitely is a lot fuller than usual. i'm guessing they just compared the popularity of the two styles and went with the more inclusive one. i suppose if someone's below L50 they'll probably still have significant queue times. and if they're just not happy with their CP levels, or prefer the no-CP style -- oh well -- choose to either play not-your-favorite or wait a little longer.

Yes its an issue, non cp is better for low cp players, also 30 days has the sweet 50 crystal reward for the worthy.

Im pretty sure a 7 days non cp would fill up

I know plenty of people whowere disappointed not to play non cp last year due to the huge queues

This should make the regular PvP’ers happy (assuming the servers hold up) since folks like me, who hardly ever PvP, flock to Cyrodiil during this event to try to get the alliance war skills. We are such easy targets for the skilled PvP’ers!

dude! i sucked at it too! i probably still do! it's still fun as hell. you don't even have to "try to do any of it". take this opportunity to get in there while it's being flooded with other PvP noobs and plenty of people with worse reaction times than you, and go get yours! this is like, if you suck, nobody's gonna notice because most people suck. now's the time to try it out, no pressure! and you might find out it's a fun playstyle for you.

most of the folks in there during the holiday aren't in full Impen heavy PvP gear, they're curious folks just like you, hoping to have fun and get cool stuff. plus, there are people like me, who totally get it but also have a tiny bit of experience, who will welcome you and show you the ropes and then know how to go create adventures with your help.

shoot, i might have to hold crown a lot this year. sounds good

That’s a pretty big assumption given PvP performance in the last couple of months. The servers can barely handle the current load. If populations double or even triple and more campaigns open up its gonna get ugly.

If you suck at PvP this is the time you should come out and do it. There will be tons of players that suck, tons of zergs, tons of super easy AP to earn your vigor/caltrops on toons that need it....

it doubles ALL the AP, and they're doubling XP for player kills.

hm, that means siege equipment's even cheaper!

edit: oops, i read you wrong, but yeah, you read it right. xp for player kills are doubled. outside of pvp zones xp gains will remain as usual.

I'm not sure what people talk about... 'if campaigns fill up' and issues... I was in Vivec the other day with all three alliances pop-locked and had no issues whatsoever on PC-NA. So I'd guess that Mid-Year Mayhem if campaigns pop-lock, then I don't see it being any better/worse than a full Vivec campaign; it's not like they're increasing the pop-lock amount, they're just adding additional campaigns.

Also for those who've never PvP'd... I hate it too and never venture there except when I need the Alliance War skills- which I did the other day. Within four hours of PvPing I had reached level six, which is all I needed, and left. So with double AP, that means only a couple hours of PvPing... and I did it all as a healer, just ran around throwing out heals. For me it wasn't a matter of being good or bad at PvP, I just threw on some CP150 crafted Impen Julianos and CP160 (Guild store purchased) Sorrow Impen gear and followed the Zone chat to wherever the next battle was raging.

Yeah I fly out of town on the 24th. The timing of this year's mayhem fest isn't the best.

Killing unskilled players doesn’t make me happy, but having non dead servers will be nice..so thank you guys for taking one for the team

Tip: For all you players that suck at PvP or are new to PvP ( PC/ NA )
Come to Kyne ( under 50 campaign ), create a new character if needed.

- Less lag than most campaigns
- A lot of great fights
- AP! AP!! AP!!!
- Fun! Fun! Fun!!!!!

I will be playing mostly in Kyne, but will be playing in Vivec also. I have a little over 20 Gold jewelry pieces I've got from the weekend vendor and I hope this event will have all my missing pieces needed.

The issue with pop-locked campaigns isn’t necessarily the performance (though it does take a dip) — the issue is the long queue times to get into the campaign. Glad there will be new campaigns right from the get go.

Not looking forward to the lag, but I am looking forward to that sweet, sweet AP.

None of this means anything if they don’t get Cyrodil working. It’s alrady broken as it is and only going to get worse when everyone tries to participate in the event.
