The lack of Culanda Lacquer will negatively impact Summerset housing

I fully agree with the OP. This unprecedented method of acquiring this basic style mat is ridiculous. This is not a truly "farmable" mat because it has a hard cutoff by only being acquired through dailies (which is unprecedented in eso). Yes, you can run it through on up to 12 toons per account. Yes, you can share quests so each toon can run every possibility of getting the mat. Maximizing these would give you a pretty good yield of this mat...

    HOWEVER...

Most players don't have 12 toons which are fully playable. The average number of playable toons is difficult to estimate, but I would put it at roughly 4. So a lot of players only have a handful of toons they can run this content with outside of the delves (which they can easily solo at any level), and the delves are only a 25% chance per toon. These extra toons running only the single delve quest per day at roughly 15 minutes per delve would take roughly 3 hours to do. 3 hours for a chance of around 4 mats. Maybe 2 items to craft.

You certainly can share the quests, but that is totally dependent on whether you have people available to share all the quests. I can't even imagine how many hours it would take to run 12 toons through this content sharing quests so that all 12 toons got 3 geysers, all 6 WB's, and all 5 delves. With a dedicated daily (pro) guild group it would take about 2 hours minimum per toon. Even at just 5 minutes per location (which is ridiculous), it would take a base amount of 70 minutes to clear all 14, and that's not including riding time between locations, logging time between toons to share quests, etc. So even if we just say 2 hours per toon, 12 toons would mean you do nothing but run this 24 hours per day everyday. That would get you about 50 per day (enough to craft 25 items...) Plenty of mats, but you would physically die as a result... Not worth it.

Just randomly doing this through zone chat with no pre-organized group would not even be possible on 12 toons. Sure you can hit 3 geysers without too much difficulty, but it still takes time since they spawn chaotically and most people can't solo them. As for the delve quests, they aren't exactly shared in zone chat much at all (I have never seen one shared), so good luck randomly zone sharing these. And even in this short period of time since release, WB zone groups are getting sparse. It is very random for WB's. Honestly it would probably take 8-12 hours to hit all 14 instances on one toon alone.

    THIS IS NOT FARMABLE.

But you know what? That's not the point. The point is that this is the most blatantly obvious money scam that zos has ever pulled. This makes me sick. Think about it... What do most people care about the rarity of this mat? They don't care at all. It is used for the sapiarch style. No one needs to craft armor/weapons in that style because of outfits. The item can be crafted in any style as long as they have the motif to alter their outfit. In fact the only crafters concerned about this would be people crafting furnishings. And what is the alternative to this ridiculous farming? I'm sure you guessed it... Buy the furnishings with crowns!

Now let's take a look at these furnishings... For the first time ever zos has given us true structural building blocks to do more than just place some tables and chairs with a bowl of fruit. We have, for the first time ever walls, arches, fences, multiple stairs, and various other building blocks all of a generally race-neutral white marble. This is like giving a kid his first basic set of legos! It was one of the best things ever for truly creative furnishers. People who like to do more than just decorate a house. People who go beyond and make truly unique designs out of the furnishing items available.

HOWEVER... The way they handled it is like handing the kid one block after every 2-6 hours of straight chore duty. That's just cruel.

That is the real money scam. Pretty much all of the posts here didn't even catch it. Zos doesn't care about people decorating the alinor townhouse. Alinor furnishings are not needed at all to make that house look amazing. It is already race-neutral enough that generally speaking any furnishings look good in it. Zos was after the real builders, designers, constructors. People who build truly unique things with these furnishings. Besides a column or two, I have never seen an alinor townhouse with any of the floors, walls, arches, or stairs offered. They thought it was a niche market with intense needs that they could exploit with little repercussions. So they threw out their first "basic lego block" set of furnishings which they knew no true designer could resist, and they made it so difficult to access that buying it with crowns would make more sense. A nice little way to make extra money. Probably 0.1% profit increase. Maybe 0.25% max. As a player who has paid many 100's of dollars over the years, as have many other players, I know for a fact that they are raking in the cash. This latest scheme to make money is way too low. It sickens me, and I'm debating whether this game/unpaid job is worth the time...

Darkenarlol... if you had actually read my post instead of making it 20% through and jumping to troll mode, you would realize that all you would end up with at the end of your run is an empty cup of coffee and maybe 1 alinor furnishing, 2 if you were really lucky. Now think about if you needed 500 alinor furnishings. The "seriously pro farming" comment was more about running it with all 12 toons... like I said in the post you didn't fully read. In fact I never even said "seriously pro farming", I simply said "(pro)" because that's what it is when you can get a guild group together to run everyone involved through all 12 toons on each account through daily content every single day, day after day.

Can anyone here confirm that you CAN decon sapiarch style armor/weapons to obtain a lacquer?

I happen to have quite a few mimic stones and i know some sapiarch motifs. I never use the mimic stone and was wondering if this has been confirmed. I have somewhere between 40-50 stones and would be nice if i could basically get some free lacquers by doing this.

    anyone?

This thread needs more attention. Why do I have to find some rare flyspec just to craft a pair of stairs? They aren't fancy sapiarch stairs. Just a normal stairway structural item that we have been asking ZOS to provide to housing since launch.

More large structural items we said. Walls, stairs, ladders, floors, whatever. That only works if they are easily accessible and these are not.

I like the rough stonework. Don't need to lacquer on top of them thanks.

At least there is the small concession yes that in the next update the green and blue recipes will now require only one piece of the lacquer.

As regards the lacquered stairs - yes this one agrees that such a thing may be comically dangerous!

I would love to see more prefabs from Alinor and for other styles as well. Also more empty proprieties like the Coldharbour estate, so we can build our homes from scratch.

Regarding Culanda, it is a good thing they decreased the amount, but I don't think this will solve the issue. Maybe adding some Culanda fragments that can be found in nodes, like in Hew's Bane or Gold Coast

Glad to hear that. It's a step at least. Any word on whether they are going to stop required materials from jewelry crafting as well? Adding a requirement for orchre to non-jewelry crafting blueprints seems like another grind increase. Although ochre is much easier to find and it can be found from seams outside of Bummerset I think.

Ochre isn't changing with the next update.
IT requires ochre because there is an Engraving requirement as well. Every time a recipe has a skill requirement, it also requires the furnishing mats from that skill line. Jewelry and ochre in this case. Silly or not, that's how it works.
Ochre isn't a problem though, it's all over guild traders for like 6-7 gold a piece. Just buy it by the thousands. It's the Culanda that's the headache. Also, nothing is changing for green and blue recipes regarding Culanda, unless we go to the PTS and make a change.

Yeah, this is confusing. You hire some bloke to come and lay some concrete flooring, but he needs to know how to craft jewellery and make potions as well. I get the enchanting requirement because there's no stone-mason crafting line, but why the other stuff?

"Reduced the cost in Culanda Lacquer to make Summerset High Elven furnishings for Fine and Superior items from 2 to 1. Artifact and Legendary items still require 2 Culanda Lacquer."

I would like to personally thank the dev team for listening to the player community and making such a fast response. It might not be everything that was requested to resolve the issue, but it is certainly enough to greatly improve the situation. Thank you ZOS!!!! <3

It's only green and blue recipes. Purple and gold recipe are unchanged.

It's a small step in the right direction, but Gryphon set should still be changed into Sapiarch, both for more Culandas, and for lore reasons.

I do agree that the Gryphon set should be the Sapiarch style instead of ancient elf. That would put an absolute end to all complaints about the rarity of culanda lacquer. However the changes that they are introducing does make the rarity more acceptable. It makes sense that purple and gold recipes would require more mats. So if ZOS is listening... Good job so far, just change Gryphon to the Sapiarch style and everything will be golden. That will make for a perfectly reasonable drop rate. I can say that it wouldn't have much of a negative effect on people running Summerset dailies since it is a great way to get Gryphon gear.

The are no less than 4 furniture packs for Summerset for sale on the PTS currently. One of them has a unique bath, and another has a unique throne, all the rest of basic furniture that can be crafted.

I guess we just got our answer as to why they went with Culandas for these recipes. There was no way they would sell 4k Crowns furniture packs if we could just craft this stuff ourselves, remember that they did not make a single furniture pack for Vvardenfell, apart from the Vivec pack which was overwhelmingly unique furniture not craftable otherwise.

So it's plain to see that they made Summerset frustratingly hard to craft, in order to push 5k Crown packs to the store instead. And the small adjustments to Culandas on the PTS currently is not nearly enough to alleviate this issue.

It's a pity that their greed is ruining the furniture market and housing. If this is the direction they will go in the future, they are at least going to lose all my money, and I hope others will follow suit as well.

When Summerset came out, I was going to buy both the Aldmeri Grotto and the Townhouse and decorate them. But when I found out how stupidly expensive and grindy they made the furniture, I have passed on both of these homes. That's easily 15k Crowns lost to them, as well as all the Crown stuff I probably would have bought to put in these homes. Instead, the only Summerset house I own is the small Gryphon Garrett, and that one I will decorate with the furniture I can craft myself.

Vvardenfell and Clockwork recipe costs was something to aim for, either use basic racial style mats like Vvardenfell recipes, or one rare style mat per item, like Clockwork, while also giving us a steady supply of these style mats through daily quests as well as equipment deconstruction.
Summerset went down the drain, due to the Culanda bottleneck, and these furniture packs now on the PTS, which will come to the live Crown Store in the coming months, just shows the exact reasoning behind this decision. It's greed, plain and simple. They went out of their way to make Summerset furniture crafting as frustrating as possible, in order to push the "easy" solution to the people instead: buying them from the store directly.

For shame, ZOS. You lost my purchases for any of the Summerset homes due to this, and I sincerely hope other people will follow suit. As long as you keep buying their homes and these furniture packs, you're just telling them to keep doing this for future Chapter and DLC releases as well.

IMO the furniture crafting frustration started with Morrowind. They made those recipes so rare it was ridiculous. Now with Summerset you can find the recipes, but can’t craft them. They just went from one extreme to another. They sure are sucking the fun out of housing. :-(

Not going to lie, that is too much of a read for me but based on the title, I agree. I buy housing to decorate it in that style. When I think Summerset, whew, I would be very iffy to decorate it and probably not buy the house and stick to the one I can buy with gold.
