It has not been a good last year and a half in terms of balance, stability, scaling, and cheating. It has been a so so year with new content. Clockwork was great, Morrowind so so (with terrible ballance changes), and Summerset lackluster.
Hopefully the class advisors will help the balance and endgame content improve as the decisions there have been terrible. As for the stability. My hope it this is just multi-core change teething because it has been pretty awful.
The game is great, ZOS is terrible, that's how I look at it. I love the game and still manage to enjoy it a ton despite the neglect and poor decisions from ZOS.
Ive had some issues, but I can deal with an occasional crash or lag. Unfortunately, some people are having game breaking issues constantly. That's not overreacting or just "forum gripes", that's a fact, and potential buyers/returning players NEED to be aware of it beforehand. It's our responsibility as gamers to make it known, because the devs (especially ZOS) are willfully ignorant of these things until the noise is so loud they can't be. That's pretty much where we are now, they have no choice now but to address the issues with the game. We'll see how it turn out, but I'm pessimistic because they haven't earned the BOTD
Summary: The game is amazing, but buyer/returning player beware, you COULD be one of the unlucky many who have tons of problems that go seemingly ignored for an unreasonably long time, if not forever
Why are they not fixing bugs?ZOS continues to mishandle ESO, since the start is truth.
Rushed out content, little to no QA on it, leaves it buggy and unplayable at times and leaves the game wide open to cheating and exploiting, wont mention too much of that for my post to be deleted lol
Botting is still rampant and ZOS are still relying on people to buy the game, buy the DLC's, download the PTS, test content for them and then after all that, spend personal time to document exploits and bugs, make a nice report for them to follow in bullet points.
^^ This was done at the start but has definitely has dwindled away to next to nothing from players. I think it was more ZOS blatantly ignoring all this time spent that has resulted in this way.
Take the crown crates and crown store monetisation over the last year. It has been heavily focused on, yet game performances has went severely downhill, for Console and PC alike. Reference forums or ask around.
Look at the new motif chapters in crown crates and the new way to achieve Welkland motifs from CR. ZOS are adding more and more of a grind to obtain simple items. nCR+3 for 1 motif fragment lol
This is fact and by no means am i bashing anyone by pointing this out. Most long term players who are still here, know exactly where this behaviour ends
Why are they not fixing bugs?

Balance, stability, lag, performance all of these things are in a terrible place. Zos is spinning in circles at this point.
Why are they not fixing bugs?
2 reasons come to my mind initially.
1). Players are not telling ZOS anymore as it is a waste of time and thinking is backwards. Paying ZOS to document bugs and exploits that they intentionally put out is backwards thinking. There are exploits been in game for maybe 1 year now, that i know of, that remains unfixed letting exploiters earn massive amounts of gold.
2). Because of continually rushing out content with little to 0 QA, it impacts other content. It is easier to make sure the new content interacts with old content than it is to adjust it while it is LIVE/installed in game. Doing this causes a lot of headaches and ZOS seems to be very hesitant to repeat this as it causes patch/hotfix for the patch, then another hotfix for the patch/hotfix.
I have definitely witnessed older players are less inclined to waste there time in interacting with ZOS, for the factual reasons above. I have seen Cheat Engine users let back to game and seen gold sellers given temporary suspensions.
Once again, no need to ban me again from posting on forums. This is factual information and by no means bashing. If you perceive it as bashing then it simply reinforces that letting blatant cheaters back into the game was a poor move.
It just seems the game is the same lackluster broken mess I left four years ago. I read reviews that it has gotten better. The issue is what I read in the forums are not promising. Between bad connection, lag, invisible walls and still has rampant bots has me deeply concerned.
Thanks can anyone tell me how bad are the bots these days?
i heard they were way worse back when you were around. i'm newer so i didn't see the botpocalypse for myself.
people still complain about them, though, a lot. i think what the company does is compile a list of bot reports, and then every so often they try to go do a big cleanup at once. i think part of this is so that the most report-happy players don't get too inflated by immediately exercising some kind of "power" over another account, but maybe it's just a manpower thing, or another reason. but it leads a lot of reporters to go check on their pet peeve a week later and find them still there, and then complain the company is "doing nothing."
as far as i can tell, what the bots are doing most of the time is just bringing more Dreugh Wax into the game, making it cheaper for most players to afford to improve their chosen armor, which doesn't seem all that harmful. well, unless you're a legit Wax-farmer, that is.
I might be mistaken but I thought occasional mass "freezing" people experience in PVP are Psijic skills (don't know yet for certain, didn't get them myself).

My best guess is that resources are being pushed more and more towards Crown Store assets like these monstrous houses and the development team has less time to focus in on content development. This sort of thing happens all the time with MMOs when their Cash Shops start really taking off.
just realize you’re ruining things for those of us who realize it’s unwise to spend half your pay check on a mount in a video game.

To be fair, with the whales I've met (in ESO and other MMOs), a couple grand is not, "half their paycheck."
Well I can understand wanting new contact or the game would go dead, but I’m disappointed bugs are a major problem still. I rebought a Ophelia or this game thinking it would be better.
@geekboy09 Don't pay too much attention to the forums. People generally only come on here to make grievances. It's rare that a thread is a compliment or praise for ZOS.
The game is MILES better than it was 4 years ago. Don't just take my word for it - play it and see for yourself.
