I’m discouraged by what I’m reading in the forums

It just seems the game is the same lackluster broken mess I left four years ago. I read reviews that it has gotten better. The issue is what I read in the forums are not promising. Between bad connection, lag, invisible walls and still has rampant bots has me deeply concerned.

@geekboy09 Don't pay too much attention to the forums. People generally only come on here to make grievances. It's rare that a thread is a compliment or praise for ZOS.

The game is MILES better than it was 4 years ago. Don't just take my word for it - play it and see for yourself.

The game is in a very comfortable crown store offering place.

Balance, stability, lag, performance all of these things are in a terrible place. Zos is spinning in circles at this point.

The game is what you make of it.

People cry all the time on every single MMO's forum. Seriously go look at the forums for WoW or TOR or FFXIV or any other major MMO, it's just "omg the game's broken, OMG the devs suck, omg it's so bad" all the time.

I have fun in ESO every single day and nothing feels any more "broken" than any other MMO. Honestly there isn't one on the market that doesn't have lag or bugs you have to deal with.

Just give it a try and have fun and don't expect perfection cause nothing in life is perfect. But ESO is pretty darn close to me

The game is still very playable. I play on PS4 Pro and haven’t had any issues with invisible walls or missing textures. I am still getting low fps when entering certain zones as my console struggles to load everything, but that only lasts about 10 seconds. I was also in PvP the other day for hours and didn’t experience a single freeze. Right now, my main gripe is the long loading screens.

People come here to gripe. The game is a million times better than it was four years ago, according to 99% of ESO players.

People rarely come to the forums to praise the game, the majority here are the ones with something to complain about (and a lot are justified). However, personally I'm having a blast with the game, I haven't had any issues with PvE or PvP content. I honestly feel the game is in a good place right now, way better than it was 4 years ago for sure.

the games good if you have a decent computer and connection. the bugs are in the process of being fixed and were steadily getting better just most of the forums are toxic so really you cant go on just the forums

I'd like to just add one thing. Cyrodiil PVP performance is in shambles. I cannot in good faith recommend coming back now if your focus is PVP. It does not matter if you have a dumpster bin PC or a NASA supercomputer, the result will be the same.

The rest of the game is orders of magnitude better than it was 4 years ago and I can highly recommend it if your focus is anything except PVP. Despite naysayers, I think PVE is in a really good spot.

actually your kindve blowing it out of proportion. my computer isnt a godmode level computer but its still high end but i dont run into any of the issues people talk about since they changed it on pc even with over 200+ players in one area. so its alot better now for us on pc but on console its a horrible show that their slowly working to fix.

While the game is not perfect and some of the issues can be frustrating like the long steam log in downtimes. Overall it is a great game.

I was in PvP for a couple hours last night and saw on two different occasions where large groups of people (20+) froze. I think there might be a legitimate freezing issue in PvP regardless of the fact that I didn't freeze.

Human beings like moaning rather than praising, the forums for some people are there 1st go to place to complain. Feedback does make things better, but some of it is just people ranting.

So don’t go by others experience, play the game and make your own mind up :)

I experienced terrible freezing after Summerset dropped, but for some reason had none the other day. I know there is an issue, but from my end, it seems much improved. Unless the freezing is random and I just got lucky.

The game is fun and I really enjoy it, when I can play it. I just did a dungeon and halfway through it, the floor disappeared on me. Two of the three pugs in my party also had the same issue, but at different moments throughout the dungeon. The fourth person had no issues at all.

The nature of RNG is now prevalent within the game's code itself. It seems to be random who gets what bug, and if you are truly blessed, you get to play a perfect game without any issues :D

The thing to remember most the people complaining about the game are still playing the game. That means for them at least despite the problems the game is worth their time.

The forums for games tend to have a lot of toxic people from all sides.

Some wanting the game to be more like a game they used to play. Others complaining because they are struggling/dying a lot to one skill or another. Yet others that want more challenge in some areas but tend to have excuses for avoiding the areas that have the greater challenge.

The one thing they all have in common is they are playing ESO because it is the best MMORPG that actually has a game population.

And example, in a previous MMORPG I recall anytime they changed something on my main class (healer) the forums filled with complaints it was useless in PvE or PvP yet I seemed to be able to heal the hardest PvE content and something usually out healed healers on both teams in PvP.

    So do not stress.

I would like to think that my i7-7700k cpu, 1080ti gpu, and 16gb DDR5 ram should have no issues running a game from 2014. In all cases except Cyrodiil, this game runs smooth as butter for me. But during Vivec primetime I have to pray to jeebus that even half my abilities will go off when pressed. Lag, constant split second loading screens, unbreakable cc, etc.

& the macro doesn't know how to get them back from the wayshrine to the Parade so they get stuck there

i heard they were way worse back when you were around. i'm newer so i didn't see the botpocalypse for myself.

people still complain about them, though, a lot. i think what the company does is compile a list of bot reports, and then every so often they try to go do a big cleanup at once. i think part of this is so that the most report-happy players don't get too inflated by immediately exercising some kind of "power" over another account, but maybe it's just a manpower thing, or another reason. but it leads a lot of reporters to go check on their pet peeve a week later and find them still there, and then complain the company is "doing nothing."

as far as i can tell, what the bots are doing most of the time is just bringing more Dreugh Wax into the game, making it cheaper for most players to afford to improve their chosen armor, which doesn't seem all that harmful. well, unless you're a legit Wax-farmer, that is.

They do still exist, but it seems like ZOS is cracking down on them and there are a lot less. I like to farm and I'd say that encounters with bots are at a very low, reasonable level for an mmo.

    ^^This is the one.^^

I'm certainly ready to complain when things happen, but I'm complaining because I'm not going anywhere. The problems are with something I spend a lot of time on and it would be nicer if certain things were just different. There's definitely things that are broken, but there's stuff that isn't as well. You need to just jump in and see if the parts of the game you like the most are broken beyond your fun level.

To your specific question, the RL friend who got me into the game played during beta and at launch and I showed him where we are at on the 4th of July. Apparently it's WAAAAYYYY better. Every complaint I had he just kept saying that I don't understand where the game was before.

The game mostly works. The only true ridiculously bad development shortcoming is the stability and performance in Cyrodiil. Sometimes it is literally unplayable.

That's really it. You could complain about general performance issues, but outside of Cyrodiil the game is 99.9% playable.

    To the OP.

It's not as bad as people make it out to be.

Some people just aren't happy unless they have something to whine about.

Don't let that dissuade you from playing the game.

They're literally all like this. Heck I once did a test - I stopped reading forums and found the game so much more enjoyable.
