MagDK: Julianos vs Silks of the sun?

Im currently running 5p Julianos, 5p BSW and 2p Grothdarr for my MagDK. My DPS with this build has been quite decent with a solid rotation that I've been practicing lately. However, I've been wondering if it is worth swapping Julianos out in favor of Silks of the sun? because I lack a maelstrom staff, I would be able to have complete uptime with the 5 piece bonus. Although, I have heard that the max health bonus isn't as beneficial to DPS for obv reasons.

max health is beneficial if you're using witch mother's potent brew, but you'll missed out 1.6k spell crit (7.6%) from Juliano. Instead you gain 129 spell damage and 1.2k hp from silk of the sun. Personally, I'll run thief stone (10.6%) to make up lack of spell crit if I'm going to use silk of the sun. But you can still run apprentice stone for maxium spell damage tho. Just depends on you.

Edit: Thank you, @Lightspeedflashb14_ESO, for the spell crit (juliano and thief stone) correction.

max health is beneficial if you're using witch mother's potent brew, but you'll missed out 1.6k spell crit (near 9%) from Juliano. Instead you gain 129 spell damage and 1.2k hp from silk of the sun. Personally, I'll run thief stone (16% Iirc) to make up lack of spell crit if I'm going to use silk of the sun. how much spell crit should you have? I also run witch mothers potent brew so that max HP could actually help since im only at just 15k hp.

ive tried out multiple setups on my mDK with grothdar as my helm , including julianos & sun, julianos & bsw, bsw & sun .... all are fairly good setups .... i've recently swapped the julianos out for elf bane though and swapped grothdarr out for zaan.... have seen a decent increase in my dps from the change

I would like to try out elf bane at some point. Although Im not quite sure if the extra 2 seconds would make a significant dps increase or very minimal. But then again, those 2 seconds do tend to help out with rotations which is nice.

Do you know which of the 3 setups you mentioned had the most DPS, or at least most consistent DPS?

Somewhat off topic, but how difficult is vet scalecaller peak? I want to try out zaan at some point, but im not sure how difficult it would be to do a full run in order to get the helm.

With Bsw + Silk of the sun, your spell crit will be only like 45%~46% I believe (with major prophecy buff), so if you think your spell crit is a bit low, then thief stone could gives you some spell crit boost.

As with almost all eso dlc dungeons, it’s not all that difficult you just have to learn the mechanics, I suggest watching a YouTube video to learn how it goes and you should be fine. You also need somewhat competent group members or you won’t get pass the first boss.

Im getting my best results with Bsw+sun and zaan. Im not pushing max dps but i was averaging around 37.5k and peaked at 39.8k

i think bsw/sun gave a LITTLE more damage ( if i remember right ) .... for scalecaller, its all about the mechanics, my group wiped at the last boss a few times before finally clearing it

@Rebirthment the extra 2 seconds helps with sustain a good amount .... even only 2 seconds, it still gives you that 2 seconds where you dont have to cast another wall or eruption which is nice

Ah ok. Thanks for clearing that up. As for elf bane, should i swap that out instead of Julianos? or is the 2 second buff not as worth as the extra crit from Julianos?

no problem, ill be working on replacing bsw though for siroria ( gonna try to farm that a bit this weekend to test it )... if you can get zaan I def recommend that over grothdarr though. The damage difference is noticeable for single target

or course though, since elf bane is a heavy set, you would want to run that with either 3 jewels ( change the trait from healthy to arcane/infused/bloodthirsty which ever ) and chest and legs , then the rest in light ... or the 3 jewels and weapon for the 5 and then you could do the monster set as heavy helm medium shoulder for the undaunted passives

julanios has two 833 spell crit with is equal to 7.6% crit (833*2/219.1) and the thief stone with 7 gold armor is only 10.6% (7% base * 52.5%) crit. so you remember wrong.
