Maybe they make bad sets on purpose?

Everyone is really upset about Sloads. Full disclosure, as a stamblade I haven’t really seen much Sloads damage yet so I haven’t had an opportunity to form a personal opinion. But the community sure seems to hate it.

I would note, with every major update we see the release of some set that is CLEARLY above others in performance, and this always causes massive controversy. Many of us remember when proc sets kinda capped at 5-7k damage, and suddenly here comes Vicious Death with its *&@$*##ing 15k splash damage. Then there was Viper’s Sting and the summer of anti-blade saltiness. Now Sloads.

I have to wonder...maybe the dev team is doing this on purpose. I mean, I can’t imagine they get through early testing and don’t see how effed up some of these set values are. There is NO WAY vicious death didn’t overperform on the PtS. In fact, I remember TONS of feedback saying it was OP. When they release a set this imbalanced, the same thing happens over and over. Everyone rushes to make it or break it and then we all come online and spend endless hours debating the set. So maybe they’re doing it on purpose as a cheap marketing ploy. And then lying to us that they didn’t realize it would Over-perform. They release a set they know will be controversial, then people play because it’s controversial.

Or they’re just not good game developers, which given the PvP performance four years into the game’s life cycle is a distinct possibility.

    yes...

"chicks dig the long ball"...although the shift is sucking the life out of the game...nobody tunes in to watch guys bunt...

anyway..."exotic" gear sets help sell new content and subs...so yes - this will more than likely be a recurring theme until they turn the lights off at zos...

Better question is why do they introduce Sets like Gryphons Ferocity that are so ridiculously weak that cant be used anywhere... I finally want to see Sets that arent absurdly OP like Sloads but make for nice interesting builds that could be pulled off...

People screamed and screamed about Vicious Death and how bugged and OP it was.

From what I recall, it never got changed. How did people react? They adapted. AoE caps got removed - did people ask for a VD nerf? From what I recall, no. People have adapted.

I still see videos of people rocking VD in Cyro and getting 20+ kills in the blink of an eye.

Now of course VD is more of a niche skill that I have even yet to see in BGs.

My guess is if Sloads gets only a minor nerf, people will adapt. And yes as long as new content is put out, new flavors of the week will surface too.

Essentially, they put out easy to learn sets that are fun to watch melt people.

Instead of adding sets each patch they need to rework or buff the hundreds in the game not worth using.

Agreed, I would be happy with no new sets and just reworks

I have a feeling the conversation goes like this:

Designer: "This set is overperforming and the players hate it"
Exec: "Release it like it is, we'll move 15k more boxes."
