Long term PVE player, can I play PVP with same build?

Hi Guys,

Long term PVE player, never really played PVP. Is it viable to play PVP with my PVE build?

I know I wouldn’t be the best player without changing gear, but would it be viable? Would I be competitive.

I just played 5 games of battlefield and did pretty well. Was I just lucky, and/or opposition players bad etc.

I started playing Battlefield to get the tranmution crystals, as someone in chat recommended it to get more crystals. Trying to change traits on Grondthrr gear.

But it seemed a lot of fun so definitely going to play more.

Thanks

It depends what kind of PvP you are intending to do. If you are going to do PvP in big groups in Cyrodiil, you are more relying on your team mates and therefor your gear importance is less compared to small scale PvP with small group in Cyrodiil or Battlegrounds.

However I would highly recommend you creating secondary build for your character for PvP purpose, if not creating entirely different PvP dedicated character. If you are going to play more Battlegrounds, there your CP will not count (non-CP area) and therefor you really need PvP gear in order to increase your chances to survive and do better at Battlegrounds in general.

    Short answer: Probably not.

Long answer: PVP has different priorities. You want to exaust the other persons resources through snares and CC and poisons, then hammer them with damage while they cant react. Your PVP build is built to do the sheer ammount of DPS in a short ammount of time.

Nope, you will get rekt against any reasonably competent PvP`er.

Glad you enjoyed your foray into a form of PvP in the game though hehe.

But for proper PvP, get at least 2k impen on your gear or with CP`s for starters, and aim for at least 25k health.

Or cut your teeth in non cp PvP campaign also, Battlegrounds is fun but not indicative of proper PvP imo.

Not sure about your class, but sorc is easy mode and a good all rounder, mag nb takes a bit more skill, or go stam and go stam nb or stamden, both pretty good if you know how to play in PvP.

You can, but it would be mediocre performance at best. I tried to do BGs with my PVE build and I would say that I had to switch half the skills to make my KDR even. I was able to maintain 2nd place 50% of games and 1st place 15% of games, but that was not the best performance and I could feel it (I am sure that all those 1st places were carried by others in my team).

You won't be satisfied yourself, that's for sure.

I'm quite surprised a "long term" PvE player hasn't dabbled in PvP at all. You're probably a magicka player since if you were stamina you would have went in for Vigor and Caltrops, and if you were doing support roles in groups (Tank, Healer) you would have went in for Warhorn, Purge, Barrier - I usually fully level that in order to get maximum benefit from slotting Barrier trough Magicka Aid. If you are ranged magicka, like Sorcerer or NB, you can get a pass using your PvE gear, since you can shield or avoid most of the incoming damage, and thus not need impenetrable trait that much. But you'll still have to change your Mundus, your consumable - Whichmother's Brew instead of blue health+magicka food - and also your skill setup since you need abilities that CC/Snare player. For example as sorcerer Rune Cage/Defensive Rune doesn't make sense in PvE, but in PvP it's essential. So it depends.

It is an investment to play PvP and my understanding is that your main goal is only to get transmutation crystals faster. Do you do unduanted dungeons? In PvE you will get those crystals over time by doing those and also XP by daily random dungeons.

If you only want to change gradually to survive in Battleground, then use shield (LA skill and restore staff Healing Ward for magical build) and combine it with healing from class skills. We don't know what build or class you are running, but as sorcerer you have steak for mobility and Warden have a skill which make it possible to move toward an allied as example of mobility skills.

It all depends on what kind of PvP you are doing and how much time you want spend too get those crystals. Don't forget that in Cyrodiil you can also take on a support role where you heal (healing spring and mutagen are two good support skill for any situation). Go to keeps and places where you can keep distance and still provide support.

Don't forget that everybody can buy repair mats to repair walls and doors. You can also use siege weapons. So don't get to hang up that you need to get a complete PvP build.

You will gain AP, Transmog crystals and some get access to PvP skill line which also is useful for other places then in Cyrodiil. Actually it is possible to focus on PvE doing dungeons, daily quests etc and gain those rewards if don't intend to invest your time into get a complete new character only for PvP.

You will be an easy kill for gankers as PvE build, but with a fully upgraded mount and later with that first support skill, which make your mount run faster (as long you have enough stamina to use that skill as it have a high stamina cost) you will be able toget back where and continue to finish what you where doing.
