No, I made a name because, well, it's a mandatory requirement of character creation, when I created the character a year ago.

In Shadowfen some crazed elf was killing and eating Argonian eggs. Also ZOS could just make them (children npcs) permanently unattackable like questgivers are.

It took them 3 years to decide that a guild name of a guild I'm a member of was suddenly offensive. At least in that case their speed at addressing the issue was consistent with their normal Best Practices.

I wonder if it takes just one person to complain or many, and what happens after a force name change. Is that name available again for someone else to grab, or blocked from being created again. I could see people reporting just to steal a name(or having a group of friends do it for them) if it's possible.

unhatched eggs. Not that that still isn't messed up.

Personally I'd love if they had little unkillable brats running around like quest NPCs, I assume there's the worry of someone modding/hacking/glitching and killing kids and making an ordeal. But I dunno. /shrug

I'm kind of vexed by a few of the anti-SJW replies this thread has had. Are we playing the same game? This is a game that has LGBT people as a normal part of the world, the Tamrielic take on the Alt-Right (the Veiled Heritance) are the primary targets of the Aldmeri Dominion quest line.

ZOS are cool people, they understand that people have feelings and are traumatised about things. I mean, if I were someone whose kid had been killed by someone, I'd be upset by a name like that as well. It's all about sensitivity and empathy, which sadly some people are sorely lacking in. There are many quests in ESO though that suggest that the people at ZOS aren't. Which I've often felt genuinely pleased about.

Consider the questline with Velsa and Narahni in the Thieves Guild, too. There's sensitivity all over ESO and it's one of the game's most endearing features. I frankly love that they're a bunch of big, feelsy babies. I've talked about it before in another thread. It makes me happy.

If you want far right freedoms to screw people up and traumatise them? You're probably playing the wrong game.

I mean, you do realise how a name like that would affect someone who's experienced child loss via kidnapping or similar, right???

    Good grief.

Even this thread worries me, so I'm going to report it. It's the kind of thing that shouldn't exist.

(2 items) Every time you see something you deem to be offensive you summon the wrath of ZOS, resulting in action being taken against the offending player, but you also take 50% more damage from Trolls.

The OP discussed this strictly within the game lore. What you did is bringing real world politics into this discussion, which is, ironically, also not allowed in the forum rules.

I don’t think anyone should be able to dictate which things „shouldn’t exist“ either. ZOS can of course decide so because it’s their game and their ToS. Questioning that in the particular case isn’t wrong though. I have seen much more offensive character names that exist for years.

Although my character has been around for a while now, I am being forced to change the name of my Argonian warden Eats-Small-Children because support says the name is not allowed to ensure "a respectful and secure atmosphere".

The name was a little joke about the lack of children in ESO, and it's ironic that a game which features quests that graphically depict cannibalism numerous times.

For instance 'Keepers of the Shell' a Shadowfen quest in which AD soldiers are eating Argonian hatchlings, 'A Bitter Pill', a quest in Deshaan, which has human flesh roasting on fires, the quest 'A Questionable Contract' in which a mage is under contract to clear out the woods and if he doesn't complete this he has to eat his wife Alanya. 'The Right of Theft' quest in which an entire village was eaten and in turn killed their murderers by poisoning their own bodies... I could actually go on and on with the gruesome and disturbing activities ZOS put in their quests...

Further to this the game gives players a human flesh eating intractable momento, which lets your player eat human flesh and then throw up, and has an entire race known to be cannibals, as detailed in in-game books such as "Pocket Guide to the Empire, First Edition: Aldmeri Dominion" which graphically describes entire Bosmer families feasting on an enemies flesh.

There are also many actual official characters in ESO named things like 'eats more hearts' 'bathes in blood' 'stabs through hearts'.

Not sure if this all adds up to a 'secure atmosphere' in ESO.

    Its a mystery of life.
If your name was Eats-small-breton-children you would be fine.
    Same is with racism.
If your in game racism can be in any way related to irl one, you would be banned. That is why wearing white clothes while killing redguards with fire is not a good idea, and guys *** did it payed the ultimate price. But being a prick and doing the same to lets say khajiit while wearing purple clothes is fine for some reason.
For zos it is completely fine for a player to have 200M bounty for mass murdering entire towns for months, but I dare you to just say something bad against irl ppl who were victims of genocide.
    TL;DR
Racism and genocide are OK if they justify zos lazy design of some game aspects. Try to adjust your name to that and you will be just fine.

    White knight spotted !

Seriously, why are you not taking in count all the violent, gore, sexual and drugs content all over this game ?

Don't get me wrong, I kind of understand your point, of course, but this is a rated M game, which, unlike you're making it looking, is full of shady violent content depicted both visually and textually.
If you have some sensitivity issues, you should certainly not play ESO, nor any violent video game at all.

I wouldn't have looked twice, I like attempts at lore names much better than anything else. However, you only had to rename your character, so not a big deal. If I had used this name, I would have an idea someone would object and wouldn't bother about it. I did think of the eggs quest in Shadowfen straight away, thought you were some Sithis vigilante.

Name changes also come with a 24 hour suspension from the game which also sucks since I play every day and kinda wanted the extra free crate plus all my crafting writs and dailies will get neglected :'(

The thing is, this game is rated M.
This is a game where YOU can run around murdering people. Where quests discuss assassinations, slavery, blatant murders and maiming, desecration of corpses, assault...
What about people who are triggered by those types of things?
To lose a child is completely life-changing and you never get over it, but so is being enslaved (human trafficking is a very big deal and goes on all over the world still), so is losing a loved one to a violent crime, so is being assaulted. So is losing a loved one to drugs and doing everything in your power to try and help them, but being helpless to do so. Yet all of these themes are still present in-game. Which... is okay. Because it is a game, rated M, for "Blood and Gore, Sexual Themes, Use of Alcohol, Violence."

Arbitrarily picking and choosing what "triggers" shouldn't be allowed in an M rated MMO where it clearly states violent themes are portrayed is asinine.
