Can you be "aware" of the REAL issue here that "some" Steam players have??

I am curious -- genuinely so, I'm not being snide or blaming anyone -- but what was the attraction to buying ESO via Steam in the first place? Why buy -any- game that requires a third party platform to be up and running and you to be logged in to said platform before you can play the game you paid for? Plus it complicates customer service concerns if anything goes wrong.

i had bought Skyrim over Steam, no problems,

I played Beta of Eso, no Problems,

I bought Eso over Steam, no Problems.

I bought all dlc´s from crowns i get from my eso+ Membership (who i bought here),

I bought all "Chapters" (Morrowind, Summerset) Pre-Order (guess where... here).

I had no Problems with Steam and Eso (except tha DOS Attack on Steam Christmas 2016, where ALL steam went down for a day) until now; and now is the third time in less than 30 Days. And it does only afflict ESO and Steam, other Bethesda Games i have bought over Steam, like Fallout 3, Fallout-New Vegas, Doom, Quake Champions(Beta), are not afflicted....

I have over 80 Games in my Steam Library, 30% is pure Online Gaming, I had never such Isssues with any of them like i have with Eso in the last 30 Days.

    Remember :

I cant play saturday 10.06 from 21:00 to Sunday 06:00

MAJOR Prime Time if you are working on regular basis

and now i can not play on Sunday from 19:00 to End open ( while i write it is 23:55)

And from last Saturday on, in all this time !!! i havent heard anything about that issues from one offical ?

    BUT

i was 2 times banned from the Forum and get one warning....

UNLINK our game from Steam... You have been incompetent for weeks straight to keep an MMO running smoothly so give us that option already...

I bought the game through steam but I can also play it stand alone.. If you launch it from the install folder there is a specific executive file that allows you to launch it with out steam.

    @WarMasterCyp

Just so you know, that's only available for those of us who purchased our account before Nov/Dec 2016. Newer accounts can't use the launcher without Steam.

One has to wonder just what Zos has been doing lately.. this game is not going in a good direction stability wise since Summerset on any platform!

I think, they will milk the cow until i is dry, till 2021, which is the 10 anniversary of Skyrim, and the release of TES 6. After That they will no longer update or support ESO, but will reboot it in 2023, with Akaviri as Open World PVP Area.

I got eso at launch with a physical copy so if I'm way off the mark here I apologise but isn't there a link to download game and install it from the account.elderscrolls page? Then use your login & pw independently from steam

Pretty sure their isn't for Steam linked accounts after a certain date....BUT, I believe if you have a copy of the client, you can install the game without steam and play normally.

But don't quote me on that.

I'll say again Steam users that purchased the game after 2016 do not have the login to log into the game. It is hidden from us and is not given out. So loading the game anyway other than through steam does us no good.

I have a unique situation that allows me to log on with eso64.exe. I had bought ESO on Steam the middle of last year 2017. So did my wife and my cousin. I recently purchased the physical copy of Summerset for myself, which I had to add to my ZOS account and not Steam. I normally still use my Steam shortcuts to run the game, but I am able to use eso64.exe when these Steam issues show up. My wife and my cousin who purchased the game at the same time are not able to eso64.exe, it ends up telling them to log on through Steam after they go through the two factor authentication in game.

Probably can't unlink Steam accounts, as that was baked into the contract that got ESO on Steam in the first place.

You can, I have done it, been playing steam-less every since. For over a year now.

Maybe share how you did it so that the folks who are frustrated can do the same?

It cannot be done unless you bought the game 2 years ago

Did you all who cannot open a ticket? You BOUGHT the game. You OWN it, they should be able to help. Or if not, create a new account and link it.

um, no.... you bought a licence to use it. you don't own it.

In the case of ESO, it's not even that. It's a license to access the service, as I recall.

'accessing the service' isn't using it?

If other games have same issue then yes. Seems only ESO has this issue every now and then.

Why is it different if you bought the game through Steam rather than directly from the website here? Because I got the game in July 2017 and I can launch it straight from the 64 client in the folder. I never log into Steam at all.

My solution to this ongoing nightmare, I downloaded a different game from a different company. A company that keeps up on it's games issues and makes sure the players get the most of it.

If I had to choose between steam and eso I’d choose steam. I’ve had this issue before. Hopefully I won’t have it in a few minutes when I try to log on.

ESO is a great game. I like it. But WEEKLY maintenance on top of all the in world bugs. I’m NOT trying Fallout 76. I Don’t Play Bethesda games until they’ve been out for YEARS AND been modded to be playable AT ALL.

I’m not ragging on Zenimax or Bethesda. I like their games. Take this as a bit of customer feedback. You guys release buggy stuff. Folks still play it. But you’re competing with a whole lot of other game companies that put out great games that AREN’T buggy as all get out lol.

Check my purchase history. I’ve spent loads with you guys. READ my review on STEAM. Lol. I wrote it the last time I had a Steam login issue. Google the name Jumpman Lane. I played Second Life for a decade. Their scripting language was literally written on a nampkin in a coffee shop (albeit by a coding genius hehehehe). Second Life wasn’t buggy as this.

Again, I’m not ragging on ZOS or anybody. Just saying...

Thanks to those who replied to my question. I can understand the community aspect and the sales/game inventory management benefits. As I said originally I wasn't at all snarking at those who elected to use Steam to buy ESO, I just didn't see how it improved things for them. Now I do (other than problems such as those that prompted this thread).

One comment: I seem to recall very early on when ESO released on Steam that there were frequent complaints about connectivity issues. Even as a casual browser of these forums at the time I got the distinct impression that a lot of folks who used Steam for it were displeased with the experience and that it was unwise to go that route. How buried is that information for new players considering a Steam ESO hookup?

And then get sued for breach of contract. BRILLIANT!!!

How about ZoS sues Valve for breach of contract when they fail to keep their service operational? ZoS loses customers to this crap all the time, so they would be very much justified to sue for damages.

It isn't just Steam. I don't go through Steam and I keep getting disconnected and it's hit or miss if I can log in at all. I can't even do some decorating around one of my houses without being DCd every few pieces I move. I don't want to quest with it doing this, random disconnects every few minutes. Can't really play the game right now. This is not acceptable.

What is going on here ZOS?

As far as how easy it was to find information about Steam connectivity problems - probably easy. The problem is that when most people buy eso they won't even look for that unless they had a friend who knew about those problems. So in my case - I just didn't look at all, I didn't think that could be a persistent problem.
Even right now if a new person doesn't look at the forum before purchase they could be completely oblivious to issues we have now. I admit I haven't even glanced at forum for the first month of my gameplay at least.

How hard is it to fix an issues that people need to PLAY THE GAME.

If it really is just EU everytime, how about fire whatever team is responsible for sitting on their asses all these months and get some people who can actually fix this. If any other online game wasn't able to log in their players they'd at laest have the decency to be ashamed.

Why do you blame Steam? Every other multiplayer game works fine. ZoS is at fault here, not Steam. It took them several years to patch their client for multi-core CPUs, some their content is still bugged to the point of unplayability and don't get me started on performance issues even on high-end rigs. They're just incompetent, that's it- and if it wasn't for the name "Elder Scrolls" they would be bankrupt twice already.
