What do you do when you reach a mat node at the same time with another player?

Just wondering, what you guys do in those situations when you run to pick up a mat and another player reaches the node at the same time?

You spam click to pick it up yourself first? You let the other player pick it up? You wait to see what the other player does? It depends on the mat maybe?

I usually let them take it unless I have a personal grudge against them, which has happened. Otherwise it's not worth battling some random guy for one node of wood, and giving it to them is a small nice gesture.

I'll click it and usually get the error message that it's being used. Then I just move on in a DIFFERENT direction than the other player.

I try to take it. If they're already running towards it before me though (even if I can make it) I'll defer.

If I see them coming I throw a spear on the node, forcing them to synergize instead.

Hit rapids, swap to bow, do a roll, and sprint up there. After the animation is over, I hit the bow emote while they swing their weapon at me.

I only aggressively go for Jewelry nodes and Psijic portals. The rest I happily give to others first.

If it's close to the same time, I'll run and spam the button. If I see them running from a distance, I'll usually back off or go to the next one. If I'm already on my way to one and someone else is as well, that's a foot race.

1) Identify whether the player is idle or not;

2.) If they're idle, nab it;

3.) If they're not idle, /bow then leave or just leave, depending on my mood.

Basically, I tend to always let the other player take it. Generally I tend to avoid people as much as I can when resource harvesting. Thanks to globally instanced nodes (tut-tut ZOS), this isn't GW2 or Ultima Online. I don't like the hostility of some competitive players. I generally won't even be seen by other harvesters, I find my own quiet spots to gather in. I have my own tricks for maximising node harvesting without the presence of other players.

If I do encounter another, though? Eh. Walk away. I wish ESO wasn't like that. If it had player-instanced nodes we could all gather together and share gathering tips.

Unless it’s a jewelry node. Someone might have to duel over a jewelry node.

If I genuinely thought I was there first, I'll grab it. If I think they were there first, I'll let them have it and not even try to run toward the node.
There are thousands of nodes. It's not a big deal if I have to walk another five steps to get a different node.

Take it, whoever hits E first wins, if they get it first they won the right to have it, if I get it first they have lost. If you get upset about this you need to chill

I don't fight over mats. If I see someone running a certain way, I change direction. If I happen to snatch a mat up from someone, I didn't see the person. What I imagine going through someones mind while they are trying to beat other people to mats is just really not appealing.

I let them have it, unless it's obvious that they've chased up from behind me and are trying to snatch it in which case I'll do my best to get it.

If they're a lower level player, I let them have it.

If they're a higher level player, it's first come, first served.

I absolutely despise watching high level players snipe low level players over a node, which two steps in any direction will get them another.

Shame on these people!

I try to get it and if I don’t, I challenge them to a duel. I’m petty. I’m usually really angry. I calm all the way down for fights. So, just the prospect of fighting calms me down. Most decline. Yet, I’m calm and over it. If they don’t at least I got a good fight.

My friends are all the same way. I was skysharding and hunting up lorebooks with a pal and a turd stole a mat from me and my pal was like “DUEL HIM!” “DUEL HIM!” When the guy declined she hate messaged him what a coward he was. Lol.

I was small manning in Vivec when another pal stopped for a mat. And someone stole it from her. She hate whispered the guy to WAIT while she hopped on another toon in another faction to 1v1 the mat thief. He declined but sent her the mat. Lol.

I know this seems mean but that’s the kind of folks I run with. I was 2vXing with a beta pal of mine who paused to kill a level 10 who’d just probably gotten the email to come to CYRODILL lol. He killed him in 2 seconds. I was inclined to leave the poor guy alone. My pal was like, “He needed help taking his training wheels off!” Lol.

If it is on my route, I go for it. Actually, a lot of the times, I don't even notice the other player. If the other player killed a mob to get the node, I let them have it. Because that ticks me off when people do that to me.

depends. sometimes i take it because I was running to it already before they rode up. sometimes I let them have it, becasue i notice them running for it, while i'm still mounted up. if we are both mounted up, more often then not, I just let them have it and move on to the next node. if I see them fighting mobs next to a node, i assume they are fighting to loot it and move on to the next node. if I'm fighting over a node and they move in and take it while i'm in combat, i make it my business to be a petty B and go after them and take several nodes that i see them going for. I think that about covers it.

If I’m in the same area farming as someone else I’ll actually run a ways ahead of them and skip some nodes so we don’t keep farming on top of one another.
