No, I don't want to see this added - Please comment why.
It wasn't designed to be included and going back and changing all that now it counter productive.

@redspecter23 What are your sources that say it wasn't designed to be included? Do you know for a fact that it wasn't designed, maybe it was being worked on and was scrapped to save time.

It's never completely off the table of course, but the water we have now isn't set up for exploring in 3 dimensions. We can't dive. If you even see the bottom of the water areas, they are empty and devoid of anything to interact with. There was definitely no intention of having any 3 dimensional interaction with bodies of water. I'm not saying it would never happen. I'm just saying that it was highly unlikely to be part of their plan from the start. They would have to go back and add 3 dimensional elements to many water areas to give us a point to even being there. No points of interest, no nodes, no chests, no caves. It's just large areas of nothing currently.

I am having a dejavu. I remember when the WoW community so fiercly asked for an underwater area. They end up hating that area the most. Believe me, you don't want an underwater area.

There is a diving mechanic in the game, currently.
There are several quests in Summerset that have you dive into the water.
As far as populating the under water areas, most of that would be a simple drag and drop of items and mobs that are currently in game. Might have to add a few mobs. As for the caves, those are simple doors that could be added. The swim and tread water actions are already in game. So, adding the dive action to a key and using the swim action with the mouse to direct the player's movement shouldn't be a problem. I would imagine the world creation tool is a lot the old TES Construction Editors of the past. So, population areas under water wouldn't be that big a deal.

I doubt that will ever happen. It would take a redesigning all of the water areas in the game to make them more interesting. and to add actual content to them.and it is not simply drag and drop. I doubt the editor for this game is that sophisticated. Masssive endevor.

Why do people keep asking this in every game when underwater zones are by FAR the most hated areas in every single game?

It doesn't matter how it's implemented, it always sucks.

They need to first fix the existing areas so that they work properly. Too many things are still too buggy. Not interested in anything underwater until the other areas work properly.

No offense but OP is merely asking for water areas because he wants it yet has no suggestion as to why it would be good for the game. Not really great reason for convincing others.

For the same reason we will not have mounts that truly fly, we will likely never have underwater either. It comes down to the game was designed to be played firmly on the ground. It would take a huge overhaul to make such changes.

I don't care for water zones - trying to play a game like this in a 3d space on 3 axis on a 2d screen is annoying, and every game I've played that has tried an underwater zone has done it once and never again as many (if not most) players can't stand it and avoid it like the plague.

I do want them to fix the water in the game such that I do not get dismounted every time my horse gets a drop of water on their hoof - and no, that doesn't mean I want some new mount they sell in the store in a gamble box, just fix the base game water already - I should not get dismounted (with that slow ass dismount animation) every time I get near a puddle.

I agree. Horses should slow down as the water gets deeper and then ultimately just swim with the player staying mounted. I suppose that simple statement is not as easy as it sounds though since they have all of these unusual mounts in addition to horses to do animation for.

Underwater exploration like in Morrowind and Oblivion could be great and really add a lot more Elder Scrolls flavor to ESO. I would like this from a purely exploration standpoint.

I would not want to see a fully underwater dungeon or zone.

BUT - don't think it can be pulled off right. The game engine probly cannot do it. Thats why no flying. I played a game in the past that had it and it was done well. It would need to have smooth flowing movement. Even jumping was smoother in that other game.

yes underwater combat is da bomb.

first you have perception issues which means you have no idea how close or far away things actually are. the healer is out of range. the aoe misses everything. those schools of fish are much closer than you think and now you are shark bait.

second, movement is challenging coupled with the above issue and being slowed. then while on the surface swimming you cant see all of the crap coming up to eat you. also you cant kill what is in the water while doing such as you are above water and mechanics wont allow combat from one medium to another.

third you have to have some form of water breathing. said items are almost always weak in stats. god forbid if you are using a potion or spell. yes that underwater raid boss just dispelled your water breathing oh joy! quick drink that potion or find that spell or clicky item.

yep under water raiding/fighting was the bomb. it just plain SUXED.

Yes, and make it a new skill line, "diving", and make it part of a DLC the entirety of which happens underwater in base game zones.
Or better yet, make it a chapter.
It could be all about reppelling a Sload invasion or something.

Flying is restricted behind a time-gate now, because of how bad it is for the game but they can't "put the genie back into the bottle", so they restrict it for the original launch of new content. You can't fly at all in the "end-game" zone of Legion. As far as swimming goes, there's like 3 quests in the entire Legion expansion that require swimming. The underwater zone of Cataclysm was the most hated zone by far, and pretty much nobody goes there for any reason. Even at cata launch it was avoided like the plague.

In GW2 the underwater stuff is hated by almost everyone as well.

Putting resources into redesigning the game (because that's what you would have to do, considering how much water there is) just because 0.1% want something that adds nothing to the game is just goofy.

WoW devs have admitted that adding flying was the biggest blunder they did, because it makes world design obsolete and pointless. Why design an intricate world when no one sees it because they just fly over it.
