Yes, I'd love to see underwater areas with the possibility of swimming underwater.
Then Ayem threw the netchiman's wife into the ocean water where dreughs took her into castles of glass and coral.

Under the sea, Seht stirred and brought the army he had been working on in the castles of glass and coral. Clockwork dreughs, mockeries of the Dwemeri war machines, rose up from the seas and took their counterparts back beneath, where they were swallowed forever by the sea.

When the dreughs ruled the world, the Daedroth Prince Molag Bal had been their chief. He took a different shape then, spiny and armored and made for the sea.

May the holder of the fourth key know the heart thereby: the Mundex Terrene was once ruled over solely by the tyrant dreugh-kings, each to their own dominion, and borderwars fought between their slave oceans. They were akin to the time-totems of old, yet evil, and full of mockery and profane powers. No one that lived did so outside of the sufferance of the dreughs.

I give my soul to the Magna Ge, sayeth the joyous in Paradise, for they created Mehrunes the Razor in secret, in the very bowels of Lyg, the domain of the Upstart who vanishes. Though they came from diverse waters, each Get shared sole purpose: to artifice a prince of good, spinning his likeness in random swath, and imbuing him with Oblivion's most precious and scarce asset: hope.

[Presently] the half-Elf [showed himself] bathed in [Meridian light] ... and he listed his bloodline in the Ayleidoon and spoke of his father, a god of the [previous kalpa's] World-River and taking great delight in the heavy-breathing of Pelinal who had finally bled...

Yes, please, to underwater areas. I would love to visit the castles of glass and coral, and learn more about the Dreughs and see the remnants of their lost empire of Lyg. And to see the Clockwork Dreughs created by Sotha Sil, guarding the wreckage of an ancient Dwemeri army.

Moreover, according to the events of Bisnensel, the water litteraly is the memory of the world. There's a lot of lore to be uncovered down there.

I've never found that underwater content provides anything meaningful to a game, and it is usually more of a nuisance than anything - especially navigating around while either having to manage your breathing or else taking a potion that completely removes the whole point of having the breathing complication in the first place. Implementing it in an existing game would be massively time and resources consuming, and I'd far rather the time and resources were spent on adding more land-based content than catering to the few who yearn for underwater content (and the similar number that will then ask to be able to fly everywhere).

We would need a breathe underwater potion tho. Not everyone is argonian =P

Underwater areas are generally disliked in most MMO's

I see it as a waste of development time to make something that has been a failure in most of a genres lifetime.

If ZOS can make underwater areas cool and not a waste of time? Id be cool with that. But if it ends up like FFXIV as a gimmick in 3-4 zones id rather just be without it.

I don't care for water zones - trying to play a game like this in a 3d space on 3 axis on a 2d screen is annoying, and every game I've played that has tried an underwater zone has done it once and never again as many (if not most) players can't stand it and avoid it like the plague.

I do want them to fix the water in the game such that I do not get dismounted every time my horse gets a drop of water on their hoof - and no, that doesn't mean I want some new mount they sell in the store in a gamble box, just fix the base game water already - I should not get dismounted (with that slow ass dismount animation) every time I get near a puddle.

Have you played any games with underwater combat? Its slow, underwhelming, and just plain awful. Wow had an entire zone added for underwater combat that noone even plays or sets foot (or fin) in anymore. GW2 it was vomit inducing from all the dizziness. I would rather they place their dev resources in other areas of the game personally.

Also, with the engine they built the game on there are limitations and they cant really add it without some SERIOUS flaws. The question would then become, how worth it is it to add it if it takes years to build and overcome those issues?

the underwater areas in gw2 are pretty cool tough... and the 3d space requires a lot more attention to movement

Meh..I'm not against them adding it in, but I in no way think it's needed. Underwater combat is always hard to pull off and can be buggy as hell. And if you think PvP has line of sight issues now, adding water combat will make that a nightmare.
Riding a mount across water...I'd be ok with that. Maybe base it off of your riding stamina. Once your stam runs out, you get kicked off your mount as normal.
Other than that, seems like a world of work (literally!) for not alot of benefit, besides immersion. And c'mon...a game can only have so much immersion.

It just never seems to work well, and even when the implementation is competent (the mermaid levels in Kingdom Hearts, maybe) it just seems to drag everything down.

Underwater levels are not only disliked in MMOs. I remember the water levels in the old 2D Super Mario games being unpopular.

Personally I love underwater content but I know from experience in other MMOs (eg. Guild Wars 2) that it tends to be unpopular and eventually abandoned. That's why I voted no.

I'd love it but it would be bad for the game.

It would take a year just to develop it if they started right now. It's not coming in 2018 unless they've already started developing it awhile ago.

Hey folks, pretty much what the title says. I'd love to see underwater areas, both indoors and outdoors, caves, delves and such in 2018.

Imho there's a ton of room and potential for new explorations, secrets, treasures, new collectibles and such in this feature that ESO as one of very very few MMOs does NOT have.

It would be great if you guys at ZOS @ZOS_GinaBruno would rework or upgrade your engine so that we could have this. Just think of the possibilities! (+argonian racial use)

I've included a poll to see how many players would like to see this.

PS.: CAN WE ALSO FINALLY HAVE SWIMMING MOUTS (no water dismount), PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE? :3

    PPS: HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

They have already said previously that the game engine they are using doesn't support this.

I do believe the OP does not nearly go far enough. As such, I demand from ZOS an immediate implementation - with all other projects dropped in the interim - of a full range of both underwater and nautical gameplay in ESO as demonstrated in "Assassin's Creed: Black Flag". With boss ships. And whale hunts.

    And cannons. Lots of cannons.

I personally liked underwater exploration in tes3 and the others. BUT, in ESO prob not.
Here is in ZoS's words "Why Not"...:)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BhsqvscZz4&t=4203s

Ok, I found the part where they are making excuses as to why it would be "difficult" and it all just sounds like poppycock and gobbledygook (aka excuses). This is not by any means my first MMO but it is the first MMO I've played where there was not any underwater swimming.

To be really honest.. there not being any swimming under water so that there can be exploration just seems (to me) as something that should have been in the game from launch. Being able to swim and explore under water would, I think, add so much to the game that would make the world seem more real and alive. I was so sad when I realized there was no underwater abilities in the game... it seemed like such a waste of potential experiences players could have had.

    Yes but how and when,

First, to guys who keep showing that old dev video as a proof for "the game engine can't handle it" assumption: please stop. They are not saying "we can't do it".

My opinion about the matter is a BIG NO when it comes to making the entire tamriel seas' underwater explorable. Especially cyrodiil.

What I would like to see is partial underwater exploration.

    1. limited to some new dungeons, to be used to access a certain area
    2. limited to an argonian themed dlc and their map (since murkmire announced we missed that chance already)
    3. naval combat when tamriel is done and we start to see akavir or sea elves' nations. giving no wayshrines to these locations, making them accessible with a ship journey in a ocean where pvp is enabled would be cool. we can use diving to loot shipwrecks or the ships we wreck on the run. :)

IMO it makes sense when player needs meet with player expectations. since I'm not a dev I can only share ideas but can't say what I wrote above is what players need. But I can say GW2 underwater was a pain in the buttshark.

    thanks for reading.

tldr: how: partially, for a certain purpose, when: water related areas released, right after fixing the issues of the game.

I voted no not because I don't want underwater swimming, but because doing this isn't possible with the current game engine, as I understand it.

Implementing underwater swimming (or flying, for that matter) would necessitate migrating it to another engine. It isn't like a switch they can just turn on. With that in mind, I would rather see development efforts prioritized elsewhere.
