Pewter ore is where you'll find Chromium grains

I refined about 600 pewter ore and got 11 chromium grains that made 1 chromium plate.

With max points into refinement the gold material has a 5% chance for dropping. One tier of material does not grant a higher chance than another.

Your sample size is relatively small. You've just hit a lucky run of RNG on Pewter and some bad RNG on Platinum. Drawing absolute conclusions based on your proveded data (and only that data) is premature and not mathematically acurate.

I'll throw another 1100 Platinum with no grains... all 8 of my grains have come from pewter....

Maybe related to the issues with Writs as well? If there is a problem in the code with higher than pewter trying to associate to Enchanting, it might be why (anecdotally) no one is finding Chromium from anything higher than pewter.

Pewter dust costs less than platinum and me too I found way more purple and gold grains from pewter so... juts to be sure I only buy pewter for refining (in any case it costs less).

    This is it.

Early in the game the same false reports were made that lower level material had higher drop rate. Small sample sizes will always give unreliable data

But, heck, believe what you wish. Does not make it actually what is happening.

I got 33 chronium grains so far. None of them from writ rewards. I have two characters at level 50 in JC. Most of my chronium grains came from refining platinium dust. Others from pewter, copper, silver and electrum. Upgrade grains drop from all dust refining. The only real difference is your character's extraction skill.

Do not underestimate the fickleness of RNGesus.

I got 24 tempering alloys yesterday. I was just watching them pop out while I was refining and almost fainted. I wanted to find friends so I could refine their ore for them while I was on such a hot streak. At one point I got 5 tempering alloy out of 12 ore.. it was nuts. Three in a row... I'd once seen two in a row, but certainly not three.

Of course I then immediately turned my attention to my jewelry crafting station and got a whole lot of nothing.

this use to be true with the other crafting lines as well for awhile youd get 3 times more out of lower tier than top tier which caused them to change it and increase the yield rate out of top tier.

On average it takes 2200 raw mats to get 11 chromium. So 11 from 600 is absurdly lucky. The fact that rng followed up with a nice slap across the face with 0 on 700 raw mats isn't odd at all. It should have only been 3 or 4 on the 700 though

Stick with it long enough, and rng generally evens out. Honestly, if you want to win the raw mat refining casino game, sell the gold now and never play again. You'll never be up by this much again.

well originally it use to be lower tier granted more than high tier me and a guild found out that after some long testing. then it changed where high tier started giving them like candy.

Yeah, something tells me they've turned up the RNG on Tempering Alloys, they seem to suddenly be really easy to get. Xbox is getting flooded with them, and the price is dropping rapidly, have seen them going as low as 7K each now, and people are still unable to move them. Everyone I ask has 50+ of them.

You're better off selling raw platinum dust and buying the chromium. One stack of platinum costs twice as much as one chromium, and you only get 1 chromium per stack (on average).

RNG is RNG. They're flooding the market because no one is buying them. Everyone is throwing their gold at jewellery mats.

1 just Refined 1500 Platinum Dust and got nothing.

Is that a fact, that the dropchances are equal in all found materials throughout every level?

The Thing is... you need to get 10? Of them to get 1 Plaiting. Even if the dropchance of them would be same as the other upgraqde materials, that is 10 times harder.

My average was 2-5 Tempering alloy to 1000 materials + 1-2 per day through 10 crafting characters.

If my luck stays the same, i will need 10000 materials. Basically i would need 20000 raw materials to upgrade 1 item? That is insane!

I dont have a AA hm group to farm gold stuff... though it seems farming gold trinkets is the way to go?
