I'm surprised that anybody thinks buy below retail is bad behavior.

But since some people do, may I suggest a compromise/fix?

When asking to buy something below MM/TTC/whatever value, perhaps you should make it clear that that's what you're doing. "Would anybody like to sell me X at price Y? That's about 15% below MM price according to my data."

That would allow a guild officer to say "Sorry. No discounts in guild chat."

In all the trading guilds I am or was in, there always was a rule prohibiting wts/wtb/wtt in guild chat. Asking for listing something in a store wasn't (still, if someone would list something way below mm price, someone else would most likely buy it before you could).

In other guilds people are quite often asking for small stuff, like low level mats, provisioning ingredients, gear with various traits for research and they're usually getting them free. If someone's trying to sell something well below market value, people will usually post their mm or just write how much it's worth to make them know.

As per my view. Buying item worth 70k at 50k is a bargain. Buying it for 1k is just being an ass (well, I did it a few times, then sent the stuff back with a quick explanation). But. It's just a game. No one actually is loosing anything. I quite often put stuff at lower prices if I need a faster rotation (only 30 slots per guild).

Your ex-guild officers are 100% wrong and their elitist attitudes is in part what makes this game suck. Of course I don't blame them, I blame the design of the trade system in that it allows for these kinds of attitudes to surface and flourish.

yes, of course, blame the trade system that wasnt even used and had no bearing on what happened. Thats a typical response from you.

Allow me to educate you. The VERY GUILD TRADE SYSTEM that has been put in place by ZOS is what allowed these elitist attitudes to flourish in the first place. IF we had a central auction house system (what the game sorely needs), then none of this would have happened.

So yes, yes, yes and yes, this is the fault of the trade system.
Yes and rock music is the cause of school shootings.

    Please.

It's the control freaks who have no real power causing toxicity; nothing else.

I tell you now, most actual good trading guilds do not act like this.

[*] Guild member: you are speaking to an officer. Show some respect.

Makes you wonder just how much of a tragic failure this guy's life must be to consider being an officer in a guild in ESO as an "accomplishment" worthy of respect.

It's worse when the guild master says " I'm the GM, you have to respect me!" Too bad I'm in a one man guild and I'm the GM :(

Yeah it's funny when someone says that out loud but when have guilds not played the "I'm an officer" card in disputes? I've been playing MMOs for 20 years and this has always been a part of guild drama in one way or another in every single guild I've ever been in.

I can see someone new to MMOs and guilds thinking that this is somehow noteworthy but if this isn't your first rodeo you know that's how the pecking order works in all guilds.

As to the OP's original question. If you do this more than once in any trading guild, members will get suspicious that maybe you're just trying to use your guild mates to buy low and sell high. No one knows for sure just what you intend to do with the mats you're getting below market price.

I've been in a few guilds like that, a couple of which are active on the forums. I don't see where you did anything wrong in the long run, i mean i was in a guild where someone got mad at me for selling under the ttc/mm price. I just told him "It's my product, i'll sell it at a price that i feel is fair. Deal with it." If you still need a good, friendly trading guild send me a pm on here, i know of one that is usually very friendly and helpful.

I don't think you were doing anything wrong. If the guild has no rules on buying and selling in chat then you can ask for what you want. You weren't undercutting because you were buying not selling.

Guilds with elitist superiors are just the worst. I get that you want to sell stuff but why subject yourself to a toxic environment?
