[Suggestion] Disable Camera Offset

...I don't see a suggestions forum... is there one?

Anyway,
Please add an option to disable or customize the camera offset.

Currently the camera wanders to the right when you zoom out; then kind of boomerang's back to center as you zoom out further.

When the camera is centered (See A. below), movement is very intuitive. You can kind of draw an imaginary line from your character to the center of the screen, and have a really good idea if exactly what direction your toon will move when you press W.

When the camera is off to the right, it is kind of disorienting, and makes precision movements difficult, because it lacks the intuitive simplicity of the centered camera... you can't draw that imaginary line because the frame of reference is unclear... does it still start at the character and go to the screen center (B.)? Does it start at the character and go to left-of-screen-center (C.)? Does it ignore the character, and go from where the character would be if centered, to screen center (D.)? It leaves an area of uncertainty that increases exponentially with distance (E.).

Anywho, I'm sure some like it the way it is, so please make this optional; or even give us a little slide bar in the settings so that we can control how far to the side the camera goes, and even which side if goes to (for folks who would prefer their character set more on the right side of the screen).

Me personally, I like it old school, with things centered and simple. ^_^

Thanks!

Alternatively, the API could be adjusted to allow these things to be moddable, which, as I understand, currently is not.

    Another random thought,

This suggestion was focused primarily on the camera's horizontal orientation, but if we're making it customizable / moddable, it might be a good idea to throw vertical orientation as well. Bueno?

I agree, and I've sent plenty of /feedback about it the past few months.

Seems they don't care. I didn't like the offset camera in Skyrim and I don't like it here.

That's a shame... It's a disruptive feature that takes a lot away from the quality of the game.

I totally agree. I like being zoomed out a bit so I can see my characters gear and get a more open POV but I dont like being zoomed all the way out, which would center it. It totally weird having the reticle off to the side of the characters head instead of over the top of it. Hopefully they add a option to enable/disable this or a mod can handle it.

I agree with the OP -- I'd like an option for a centered (3rd person) view without the offset too!

Yes, please... As a melee character I'm forced to play in 3rd person to have a good Combat Awareness... The "Parrot Cam" makes aiming with precission targets that are close in melee a very hard issue... In fact to hit an enemy on my flank I usually end looking back.

I know that on Consoles this camera mode is dominant on FPS (Having autotarget makes this issue non existant for them), but please, this is a multiplatform game so please add options so PC users don't suffer from this kind of strange situations.

Agreed, never seen this in any other game. There's a reason for that.

disagree. aiming targets that are close in melee with centered view would be painful because yourself would hide the targets with your body! and because of that it is like it is!
in other games this is no problem because of the much higher distance (and much higher angle) of the viewpoint. but this is es, nearer view as "normal" is part of the game...

beside that: make it optional is nethertheless a good idea, anybody should able to gimp himself like he want...

Ah, good point. I've been playing exclusively as ranged, so my character blocking my view is never an issue; when the enemy gets close enough for that to matter, I don't just stand there, I kite them.

For sure, being optional is always the best route!

That would be awesome... I don't like 1st person as it makes it harder to see stuff to evade or block but the camera offset makes the game feel off for me. I understand the reason why the did it but if it is possible to adjust this that would make a HUGE improvment for me.

i was thinking about this earlier while in game and you have illustrated it perfectly.
i agree, an offset slider would be sublime.

Yea a slider would be great. If I recall correctly, Guild Wars 2 had a camera offset slider, so that might be a model for this feature.

I agree, some sort of optional offset slider would be great. I often find it difficult to see the targeting reticle with everything going on in melee combat and just as often miss my target(s) due to being improperly aligned.

any forward steps? myself already thinking to cancel my subscription because of this camera issue. is it a big deal? Or Zeni don't worry about some customers?

Eh, I wouldn't quit over this, but it seems like every 2 mins of gameplay I'm droppin' a sigh and thinking "...why the hell..." at a questionable design decision.

I'm guessing someone over at Zmax said "you know what, let's make it so that players have to view the game world at a bit of an angle!!"

...which is stupid. It's little, and by no means 'game breaking' ...but it's stupid.

There are a lot of other stupid little problems too, and the combined effect of all those kinks is really dragging the game down. It's still a good game, but that's all it is - good. Average. C.

Elder Scrolls did not become one of the most popular names in gaming by being average. Not saying it needs to be perfect - no game ever will be - but these quality-of-play speed bumps really need to go.

I definitely DON'T understand the reason why they did it... Could you elaborate on why you think they chose to make such an obstructive feature mandatory?

I know at least a couple of games have used that angle... Deadspace comes to mind, which was a third-person shooter. It kinda worked there, cuz your character WAS your HUD; you didn't have a health bar, but rather your toon's Tron-like outfit had lights that would change based on your HP; your remaining ammo was displayed on your actual gun... not that any of that is a factor in ESO...

I think GW2 had the option to offset the camera, but it was just that - an option. Like it should be. *nudge nudge @Zmax*

I'm not sure if its just me, but it also seems that your character model when mounted is offset to the right as well. Not sure if its a byproduct of the default offset camera angle, or just my perception of my character on the mount, from that camera angle.

Either way, it looks like my character is leaning to the right on my mount, and the offset camera view doesn't help, I often find myself feeling quite disoriented from time to time when riding my mount for extended periods of time, and panning the camera back and forth hunting for nodes.
