I think the main reasons there are such discrepancies in performance is because of the console vs pc situation. I watch videos of people on pc doing raids and the issues ps4 NA has aren't on pc even when they're streaming. Ps4 pro slightly reduces these but not by much, especially not for the price. AoE's and animations lagging behind killing people because they can't see them are a pretty big problem.

Not exactly true. Lag came after server migration.

I quit eso on pc after the first 2 months (just as craglorn was released) as the performance was no where near the standard of guild wars 2, so i went back there for a few years. So for an oceanic player, its true.

Only back on eso due to wanting mass pvp on console, sadly eso is the only thing that offers it (poorly)

This game really seems to have never ending issues..

So much money used to promote merchandises and cash store nothing or very little put to the back end.. Honestly its sad..

Ever since summerset released on PCNA its been getting more more lag and dsync PvE or anything.. Yes i'm Aussie but i should not be seeing 300-400-1000 ping times..

It's usually the PvPers that quit the game due to horrible server performance. As a PvPer myself, cyrodill is almost always unplayable around prime time, meaning that the only time I can actually play is late night at 2-3AM, or 7AM-4PM. But not everyone has free time around those hours to enjoy PvP. Apart from the main campaign, the other 2 usually have low pop, so there are really no options other than to play in the main one which is plagued with lag.

Aside from the server lag, the design of cyrodill promotes the zergy playstyle where people stack up in big groups to take objectives, which in turn create lag. BG has much less lag, but it was poorly designed with no real leaderboard and three-way fight.

Even when the server isn't laggy, the staleness of riding your horse over long distances to find a fight, only to get zerged down has become too much for many players to endure. I understand that PvE is what ZOS wants to direct their attention to, but what about PvPers like myself and many others who have spent a lot of time and money on this game? I've personally spent over 3.5k hours and $900 on this game, and I have PvP friends who've spent over $1000. They all left the game because they finally could not deal with server lag, bugs, broken sets, etc. They all spent so much time and money on the game, yet it disappointed them.

Many people have suggested ways to improve performance in PvP campaigns, such as lowering the population cap for all servers to reduce server load, or remove the emperor mechanics to discourage players from zerg stacking to cap objectives. They've also suggested ways to improve BG, such as giving it a hidden mmr, a ranking system based on said mmr, two-way fights instead of three, etc. We can only hope that ZOS takes these suggestions into consideration.

I am very close to quitting myself, but I still hang around because ESO honestly has the best combat mechanics in all MMOs out there. The game has so much potential..

Wait. What? The game is not dead yet? I thought it was dying from lag in February already.

Or is the game maybe found itself on the lost island and doesn't know it's dead yet?

Surely if the issue was with Zenimax servers, game code and requires a
complete re-write of the game engine both server and client side
. Then the issue would be universal i.e. everyone. I think people need to consider the fact that ISP's and your broadband connection play a massive roll when it comes to latency and lag.

Personally I have never experience lag in any form, in busy zones such as Orsinium or high demand during event. I have even changed ISPs twice since game release, although each has been a fibre connection. I currently have 1gb up/down fibre to the premises, so that may pay a huge roll in my connection, however even when I had 76mbps fibre there were no issues.

Even when watching Twitch the hosts seam to experience very little latency or lag while streaming.

It's weird how they said they were implementing improvements for performance and lag etc. They even mentioned specifics such as for inside Cyrodiil. Then since Summerset it's actually been worse haha. It's incredible how they seem to either be lying or simply incompetent. They are lucky that there haven't been any other MMO's released lately that have a lot of content, and are decent. If WOW, Guild Wars, or DDO ever came out with upgraded versions, Gooooodbye ESO! =)

Strange bit from what I've heard in game (and my own experience supports this) is that it did improve for some folk BUT others (like myself) who weren't having any problems now have stuttering and really wonky lag spikes.

No interest in those other MMOs, been there, played them, am done. If ESO fails, well, there's other things I can do with my time...maybe even productive things.

I love this game. Played since Beta. But lag drove me away for over a year. I came back and tried again. But the brutal unplayable lag drove me away for another year. I have come back again but seriously how after all this time can it still be this bad?

I have a three month old gaming PC. Every other game I play has no issues at all. In ESO my typical day is try to go through a door, game freezes for two minutes then DCs me. Game is fine then I get into a fight and instantly lag goes to 999+ and frames about 1 per 2 seconds. I can't properly fight. I often get booted from the entire game at dolmens. It is depressing. There are times when the lag settles down to about 300 and the game is playable but too often I can't even craft as the lag is so bad I can't even use a crafting table.

This is one of two huge issues that is killing the game for me and for many people.

I frequently have 3-4 second lag while trying to do crafting writs in my evening - which is two hours after the daily reset. Trying to do a pledge or random is a nightmare these days, mobs just teleport all over the place. And seeing how my current goal is getting better at VMA and I get lag as early as 7-8am daily and evenings are right out... not to mention I get disconnected at dolmens with only 3-4 other people, trials are out of the question (esp seeing how the damn Voice chat is currently stuffed anyway)... well, other than Summerset in two days time, I'm running out of things to do.

My position for the last 3+ years has been that ZOS should postpone content release and spend one of those quarters on fixing the issues that manifest in Cyrodiil.

    Fix the lag.

I think the majority of players would be quite amenable to such a plan.

Many things will apparently kill ESO. It's still here

Have to agree with this. Its just one of those things we put up with really.

Every game has its one thing everyone hates but still put up with because they love the game.

Those things should get fixed of course but yeah. Not going to happen. If they can't make money off it, then it wont get done. Even though dealing with the server issues would actually increase revenue due to returning players upon improving server stability to within acceptable margins - but hey who am I too tell ZoS how to run their business. lol

If you don't want lag in future, then we need net neutrality. Without it, an ISP will be able to slow down your service because "they're just playing games" in order to give the bandwidth to companies that pay more. No matter how speedily ZOS's servers respond, it's the time taken for the packets to flow through the internet that causes lag. I.e. it's caused by the ISP's, not the endpoints. Most of the network providers at the domestic end of the chain are also cable TV companies, so what traffic do you expect they'll give priority?

PC/EU: Cyrodill is absolutely unplayable during prime time due to 5 to "n" minutes of loading screen when resurrecting or porting. No one enjoys spending 1/3 of his time watching an hourglass.

Other than that everything runs fine here (dungeons, world content, etc). There are many things to do in the game so .. I just avoid Cyrodill and do something else. All in all, pvp wise, battlegrounds are much better and I've never had an issue there

While I will not refute that there IS lag in this game for some people, I myself virtually never encounter it. I do not PVP, and mainly roll solo, so maybe it is those habits that are conducive to a lag free playing experience. That said on the rare occasions I do trials I still never lag.

I don't think is it one single issue that factors into lag, but rather lots of smaller ones that culminate into a cumulative effect. However I am sympathetic to those who experience it on a regular basis.
For those that do, all I can suggest is you do everything you can your end to have the best experience. Have the fastest internet available in your area, a good quality router, don't use wi-fi. I am no expert, but those three things have kept my playing experience lag free.

Well i hope that eso will be around till the entire mmorpg genere die.
But honestly we cannot know when this will happen as for now the new trend are battle-royal tipe of games or fast phased shooting, mmorpg are not a trend anymore and the lack of money mean that zos cannot afford to pay for some of the major changes we ask.
Eventually they will move on to another project and so we.

Anyway lag is not an issue even for me i honestly just avoid Cyrodiil and sadly that was what i've looked in this game when i've first joined the beta four years ago.
