Pledge of Mara help!

Hello so I see there have been a lot of threads about people having various issues with the Pledge of Mara. But all of which are somewhat older and generally were resolved, so I'm hoping I can get an answer here. I understand that only 1 Pledge of Mara is needed, that it binds two characters, not two accounts, and it does not matter what level each character is. BUT the one answer I could not find was does it matter if character's are in different factions? My character is DC, and my friends is AD. Though he just made his character, and it really isn't as much of a hassle to remake him since he isn't even level 20, but I'd hate to cause him more work to make a new character if its not needed. Thank you for your help!

Ok thank you! For some reason it wouldn’t work last night and I googled it to make sure we were doing everything right. We were in Wayrest so aside from being in different factions I didn’t know what else could be wrong. I turned off all my add-one, quickslotted the pledge of Mara, we were grouped, and I was targeting him when trying to use the Pledge. We were also standing right in front of the Shrine of Mara so.... don’t understand why it wasn’t working.0
