Game has become too flashy!

The title says it all.

Raid groups look like a gathering of parade mascots, every player has a personal Tinkerbell pet buzzing around their head and mounts look trial bosses.

I was not playing the game at launch, but started just before the crown store release. Even back then the game looked so much more beautiful (if you look at the videos). People used undyed breton armour and rode brown or white horses!

I get that people want to look "special" but Zos catering to these demands has turned TESO into "lord of the rings meets Avatar". A guy using pink Dro-M'Athra armour astride a red glowing ghost horse, looks like a vision from a skooma induced nightmare! Idk it has gone too far.

I know this will probably never happen, but if ZOS could just tone it down a bit, or better yet, add a toggle to display everyone in vanilla armour and with normal mounts that would be awesome. Might also help performance. ;)

Cosmetic appearance is the true money-maker in any online MMO. Unfortunately it mean we have to put up with looks that we would never choose for ourselves. It keeps the money flowing.

It's just like in real life, you may think the person standing next to you is dressed like an idiot, and they may think you are dressed like a bore, but the two of you get to choose for yourselves and not for each other.

It's just fluff, ignore it. Without the ejits that buy it, there probably wouldn't be the money to make such a good game.

It's not as bad as in a lot of other MMOs - just look at asian ones and you can see that ZOS is at least somewhat sticking to the lore with these things. We do not have sailor moon dresses and other totally out of place stuff in the game yet - and we hopefully never will. I think as well glow effects and particles are overused, but still, it is not any near as bad as you think.

Yes, you're right about that. And I don't have a huge problem with players creating their personal outfits. It's just that I would enjoy some more immersive and less glaringly hideous attire  .

First thing I tell to my trial party is to remove all cosmetic pets. I also don't usually accept wardens and sorcs with pet builds because they are way too annoying. Also Maw of the Infernal, I HATE THAT STUPID BIG LIZARD.

Mounts like trial bosses? ESO IS VERY CONSERVATIVE regarding mounts.

And ESO is barely flashy when compared to other mmorpgs like BDO and WOW.

Welcome to what monetising cosmetics does.

Exotic and colourful is always more appealing than mundane and dull. We saw this coming when the store was announced because we've seen every MMO prior to ESO suffer this.

It is what it is though, the gameplay is still worth the little issues like this some of us have with it.

But it has a good side as well - now a plain white imperial horse or the Sorel horse are kinda "special" - and I like to ride them.

The game is what you make it. A majority of my characters use simple outfits dyed in muted shades, and ride regular horses, and I like it that way. Those who have more extravagant outfits or mounts have valid (in my head at least) story reasons for doing so.

It's a losing battle trying to impose restraint and taste onto others though. Those who want to look weird will find ways to do so no matter what. Even back when costumes didn't run to anything more outrageous than a wedding dress, certain people rushed to dress their fat male Orcs in them.

Part of playing an MMO is, unfortunately sometimes, dealing with other players in "your" game. :)

What is wrong with looking good? In my opinion, as long as the costumes are okay with the universe and lore (and they are right now), they're fine. Yes, there were horses, but guars and all others are also cool in-game mounts that do exist in the lore. ZOS doesn't make cartoony shiny stuff, but all that looks quite fine.

Haha ye me too. I remember with the crownstore release they introduced this nightmare courser mount, all black and fiery. That really got my *** hard. But now I barely ever use my storm atro or dwarven mounts anymore, the vanilla ones are much more beautiful tbh.

Also don't you love it, how you can always identify a newbie by his immersive appearance? :D

All max cp people use golden skins and trinimac shoulders even on the characters they just started leveling. Not that I'm any different mind you^^.

It all depends, I like the nix-hound pet - a lovely little critter from Morrowind. I like it's motions and it's cracklng sounds and it lets me feel good to have it around when I am adventuring. But I give you that most of the glowing mounts are much too much on the glowing side now.

This was always going to be an issue when players were allowed to create their own outfits, not everyone has the same taste.. and some people have no taste at all!! lol <joke>

I have that nightmare courser as well - but anytime I mount it, it annoys me so much, that I choose a more common mount. I like the guars though, just not the hist one, which I have as well - but same thing, I rather ride the golden eyed one without glow effects.

The Sorel horse is one of the best looking horses in the game IMO - and it's free at level 10 now.

No. I like so much to see variety around, the more the better.

And I'm one strictly using classic horse on my main and only horses are the mounts of my chars and I do not wear flashy things except for one alt.

Still I say it's awesome to have all the kind of flashy around, people have different tastes and it's absolutely welcome to have options and large variety.

I have seen FAR LESS eye-sore fashion than I think ZOS expected. For years ZOS kept denying the overwhelming majority of players requesting the ability to dye our weapons- simply because some at ZOS feared everyone running around with pink weapons. Well, on my days off I typically play 10-12 hours, and I have yet to see a single pink weapon.

I think perhaps people should learn to mind their own business and let people mind theirs! I think a huge problem in the world is that people think they have a right to stick their noses in other people's business and that their opinions should be all that matters... especially when people create this 'artificial distress' within themselves. In that, "how someone else is dressed causes me to have xyz issues." NO... YOU control how YOU feel, and it's your selfish opinion and expectations that are the cause of your distress.

I wouldn't mind less "flash" in this game. All my special rides are crammed into the Mara's Kiss Public House and I only use regular horses these days (with some exceptions.)

I do however dress up for the events like Halloween etc.

Btw. I don't care about the lore aspect at all in this game and I will never pester anyone for using the wrong outfit or ride.
