Why no update on launcher?

There's clearly a 'NEWS' area on the launcher and they clearly have no problem pushing other information there... Why isn't there a message THERE that the server is down and an ETA for time back up? Why should we have to come here for that. A small message that says 'Server up' or 'Server down for maintenance'.... something!
Having to boot up a browser and these forums to get such basic information adds, to me, an unnecessary and slightly annoying step.
