How about changing the do not attack innocents to allow attacking when they attack you first!

It stupid that they can attack me and I can't attack back. They are no longer innocent if they attack me!

They only attack you if you thieve. Sounds like fair play to me.

Jeez, just either get out of their cell or just stand there for 5 hours watching them make a small dent in your HP.

Yes they attack if I thieve but it they attack me they should be attack able. They should just call the guard.

It was funny once when I started to get punched in a mill for stealing. I didn´t want to go into options and change things (don´t even remember if I could) so I could kill the innocent (but very angry) NPC but the space was too small to get out of combat. So I wound up running around Benny Hill style for quite a bit before I could work up a time window long enough to exit. :p

Of course it does. Addons solve all the issues for the one-third of the playerbase that have access to them, less those who really don't see why they should have to rely on them and prefer not to use them. Addons are not really the solution to anything, they're just a workaround for some players.

How about no attacking innocents gets turned off automatically when you pickpocket? Or no attacking innocents disables pickpocket? Seems odd to have that both ways.

My problem is I always forget to turn it off when I'm doing Dark Brotherhood dailies. Sneak up to BoW someone, wonder why it's not working, NPC turns around and BUSTED...

You attacked them first by stealing their personal property. While it's not a physical attack, it definitely was emotional, causing them to physically attack you in response.

Either take your lumps or run around and avoid their hits for 2-3 seconds, allowing you to escape through a door.

Me: I take my lumps. If I was stupid to get caught, I deserve a beating.

Otherwise, I could never proudly wear my "Master Thief" badge with honor, grace, and respect.

I will admit, losing that haul with a purple really hurt. 20k gone, just like that.

Stupid elf with the crooked eyes.

    Kinda besides the point.

... Though really, just turn on your ability to attack innocents. It isn’t that hard a thing to learn to avoid when your not wanting to... Unless there’s a bunch of lag. Then it can get a bit annoying.

no... it's entirely the point.... they are retaliating having been robbed.

Doesn't matter who attacks first. If they can hit me I should be able to hit them back!

Some of you are saying the if someone steals something the they should be able to kill you and you shouldn't be able to fight back.

    Not very logical to me!

Actually, this happened to me the other day. Didnt realize it was a thing. I accidentally stole the same f'ing staff sitting next to the writ station for the billionth time, and was then attacked by a guard (after i refused to pay of course). I went to cast cripple on the guard to get expedition to run, and it wouldnt let me. Couldnt heal either as I couldnt use funnel. Pretty silly.

To me, the justice system in this game has simply become an annoyance. They should make make guards difficult, but not impossible to kill, and once they turn red, you should be able to attack freely.

Run out of line of sight drink an invisibility potion and sneak, now port out.
Outdoor its no issue getting away, just run don't fight, no issue even on magic builds.

Grinding just make you go in circles.

They can attack you legally, if you attack them your bounty goes up, up to murder in addition to theft.
I think the murder fines should be 10x higher, punishment from murder is way higher than murder.

I rob chests or bags and boxes not pick pocket. I understand they should be upset but they should not be able to kill for thieving.

The problem would go away for me if they change the flag for attacking innocents to identify if they are attacking me and then let me attack them.

Some of the line of sight issues are crazy also. I can be behind something in some places and still be seen.

I've been attacked by guards after using an AoE on the second floor of an Inn. What I personally think would be nice is if not attacking innocents was turned on by default rather than the player having to go into settings to turn it off.

I was pickpocketing an NPC and got caught; naturally the NPC went hostile and started to attack me, by punching. I had don't attack innocents on but it appears my clannfear didn't get the message and killed him while I stood and watched.

You do have to wonder how stupid an unarmed NPC has to be to attack an armed and dangerous warrior with a daedra in tow, he should have called a guard. Of course he was quickly resurrected, over his own dead body, so no harm, no foul, besides the small fine I had to pay.

I agree with the OP, once an NPC attacks you they are an enemy and the prevent attacking innocents shouldn't apply. You basically have to turn it off when you go thieving.

You set the option not to attack innocents. Unless they commit a crime, they are innocent. Apparently punching you in the face after you fail to steal 3 times is legal. I actually think thats how it should be, in Tamriel and real life. Three times? Really? Its go time and no crime for defending yourself.

Since they are still innocent by definition, your setting choice does exactly what it says and prevents you from attacking. Use logic and it's pretty obvious tbh.
