Has anyone who has a good knowledge of their own rotation actually tested the MA changes yet?

Limiting it too direct damage is only a big nerf if you relied too heavily on AoE damage for it too proc. Direct damage is basically light weaves anyway...

Basically the same weak point as Scathing Mage. Ironically that set only used to be good due to a bug that considered Twisting Path as direct damage :)

I suspect its simply down to priorities/return on investment.

It would be great if many of the weaker sets were buffed - but I suspect it takes quite a bit of thought and testing to determine how much to adjust something without it becoming either the next op thing - or still be unused (ie wasted effort).

On the other side, where there are a number of 'top-tier' sets all balanced within a smidgeon of each other - but one stands head and shoulders above them - and these are the sets that the majority of players use - it kind of makes sense to give that set more focus as the balancing impact will immediately be felt by a larger number of players.

In other words, X amount of effort in balancing a set generally has more impact on the game when applied to an over-performing set.
I'm sure all the weaker sets are on their list somewhere - just lower down in the priorities - and a combination of the new BiS and new expansion sets just keeps trumping them in terms of priority.
    Minalan owes me a beer.

ESO has the most crybabies out of any MMO I've ever played. You don't even lose anything when you die...literally....nothing. With the exception of Tel-Var in IC and the sewers, why do people even care if they die? Finding sets/builds to counter various other play styles and sets is generally a fun challenge. Instead you get people instantly and nonstop whining because they died to "cheese"...wtf did that even become a term. Half of these millenials are "cheesy ". Thanks to the whiners for all the nonstop nerfs. ESO would have a much larger population if it wasn't for all the nerfs and subpar core components of the game.

The main reason is power creep. If you constantly buff the weak in scaling game, then over time the average strength of characters will grow which will entail simplifying the content.

However, this is not an excuse for the fact that many sets have long ago been worth reconsidering.
    Everything is viable

I mean, if it's in the game, it's not cheese. Every set has a 5 piece that procs....every set is basically a proc set.
And usually the people who complain most about "cheese", are normally wearing "cheese" themselves. I use Velidreth...killed a player and got a whisper saying my cheesy set killed him. The thing about that, is that player was wearing Valkyn Skoria. The contradictions are REAL!
I've no problem beating players who are using proc sets. Almost all players use them in one shape or form. You learn to counter them, or you die. And you better get used to it, (you in the general sence, not personally)because more and more are being added.

There is a major difference though between a proc that amplifies your character stats and a proc that does a great amount of damage. The latter just makes everything easier without any real action by the user (beyond farming that set).

That's the way the game is now, and has always been, and judging by the sets coming in Summerset, will be in the future.
You can play by how the game is, or keep wasting time complaining about "cheese". It's not going away. That's the point. Most certainly don't have to like it, but we do have to accept it. Its the reality. Learn to counter it, because those sets are not going away. They'll always be replaced by something stronger.

For all the reasons mentioned above and because, as you said, there are countless sets that need a rework: Is it easier to nerf one set or buff 100 other?

Btw, to be completely honest I'm fine with it since it doesn't feed powercreep.

MA needed a nerf. It was overperforming.

Every set has a 5 piece that procs....every set is basically a proc set.

Not every set. Spriggans, for instance, adds Physical penetration as its 5th piece bonus. Thats not a proc, its an absolute stat.

Same with most crafted sets, they all add a stat bonus rather than a proc. For PVE, stat bonuses are favoured over procs.

^^ This precisely, plenty of people crying about how such and such is OP(often before said set even comes out) and few people building to counter it. The problem here is people evidently don't bother to farm multiple sets and swap between them depending on the situation, they expect one cookie-cutter build to cover all contingencies. I have multiple sets and skills quick-slotted to swap between depending on who and what I am fighting. Its true that is only 3 or 4 different options at any given time...but surely one of those options will work against a given build

ZOS hanged themselves with the power creep when they introduced the champion point system. It gives the players so much power that there is no space for any other power creep. Its the worst that happened to this game, look how many cool skills and sets have been nerfed since the introduction of the root of all evil (CP system).

So I am not going to go the route of ZO$ but this is my thought

    Buff 60+ old sets

    OR

    Nerf less than 30 sets.

I see it as a pure lazy/time saving/cost effective way at ZOSland. I am a lazy mofo so I'd rather nerf less sets than buff more sets. Catch my lazy drift here?

Agreed most things 'proc' but you know the Proc Proc sets i'm talking about. And I just don't dig them.

Weapons and skills should kill folks. not a light attack and then the MH / Armour fires random crap out to do the job.

Its a principle thing more than anything else, I get that.

I also think while they 'help' new players do damage (which feels the point along with increase of Oblivion damage) they also don't teach new players timing, and setup, rotation burst etc. They have something doing something on auto pilot that yes a pro will learn how to work in - but likewise many will just hope its happening in the background.

The real damage Proc sets are the last year. The early ones weren't prominent nor were they that OP.

I feel so upset with the MA nerfing :'(

I and Alcast wrote 2+ months ago on a video of him, that MA would have been nerfed in the close future.

Yes it's awesome to pull massive DPS but that set just broke any kind of equilibrium.

Even an average class like sorc, MA would beat BiS non pet gear but ALSO BiS pet gear. That is, the premiere pet set (Necropotence) whose only purpose to exist is to be THE pet gear set, got beaten by MA.

What about NBs? Their specific class mechanics interacted so well with MA that their DPS went out of control and broke classes balance. You can't have a game where all classes do X DPS and one does X + 7K.

If you check Youtube build videos, from CwC onward everyone switched to using MA.

When everybody jumps on the same BiS bandwagon, it means that bandwagon is overperforming.
