What is the difference between logging off and quiting?

I play on PC and when it comes to me ending my gaming night I can either press Logoff or the Quit option.
If I select logging off it can take up to 10 seconds to actually log off. There is an actual countdown.
If I press Quit it either crashes the game or it immediately shuts the game down.
I'm thinking the preferable option to select is Log Off ?

✭✭✭✭✭Log out is to get to the character selection screen . Quit is to exit the game .0 -
JasonSilverSpring✭✭✭✭✭Log off is for when you want to play another character. Quit is to quit game. Bot will give a 10 second countdown if you are not in a safe spot like a major city.
The purpose is to prevent you from quitting while in combat.
If the game is crashing then that is not normal.0
