Can't zoom while creating character

While creating character I can't zoom to see the face, pressing the "plus" button doesn't do anything. What do I have to do to solve this problem?

✭✭✭✭The problem goes away when creating a second character. So make a throwaway char (don't open your mail!), then go back to make one you want.1
