I do not believe it would work that way, since the Steam version and non-Steam PC version are different games, just as you would buy a console version and it wouldn't count as a PC version. The servers are the same, but to be safe, you would want to purchase your ESO membership through Steam. If something were to go wrong, you would then have two companies you could refer to to help you fix any issue you have, too, so if Steam couldn't help, ZOS support probably could (they have some of the best support I've seen). However, if you purchase ESO+ through the website and not Steam, ZOS might be able to help you, and might not. I cannot test this myself, as I don't own a copy of ESO through steam, but without a ZOS mod or someone who has tested this, the only answer is to test it yourself (and if it doesn't work ask ZOS support for a refund), or just buy the sub through Steam and trust in the support staff to get you through any of those issues you've read about (if you encounter them).

Actually I've only ever had issues when I bought subscription or crowns directly from Steam. I always buy everything through the eso website now and it works just fine. Steam and non-Steam versions are exactly the same since your accounts are automatically connected. You can use both methods but Steam support is more annoying to deal with if you run into trouble in the future.

I initially used Steam to buy ESO plus since that's where I purchased ESO. When it was time to renew, I got it through the ESO website with no problems.

Sounds like it easiest to buy from Steam. Thanks for advice

Keep in mind that you still use the same ESO account as PC when playing on xbox, yet you cannot purchase crowns for xbox via the ESO website. You sound like you're speaking from experience though, so it's good to get that input. For what it's worth too, ZOS support is great no matter your platform - they've been able to help me on xbox just as well as when I was on PC, so I'm sure they'd be able to help Steam users just as well. They aren't limited to helping non-Steam PC players.

ZOS support is definitely more useful than Steam support. All Steam support can do is offer a refund but ZOS actually helped me get any missing crowns I had previously bought through Steam. I didn't run into any issues ever since I started using the website so I just stick to it now because it feels safer. However I understand it's faster and more comfortable to make purchases directly through Steam.

You understand that STEAM has no access to your actual account information on the ZOS servers, right? The only thing have access to is the transaction and as such can only provide support for that transaction.

Not saying Steam support is good or bad, but want to make sure people have appropriate expectations when dealing with them.
