So in less than 24 hours we have yet another unexpected server maintenance.
This causes two areas of concern for me.
One, this game should have done a solid open beta the last two weeks like most MMOs do prior to release using their most current version. What we got was a stress test weekend two weeks prior that was on an older version and was intended more on testing the imperial addons to the game. In this way you have a better chance to catch whatever bugs are causing the server maintenance during beta instead of catching them at release when you get irate customers at that point.
That really wasn't smart all things considered.
Two, the dev team currently leaves a lot to be desired with communication. Three hours into a down time and we still get "We are bringing the North American megaserver down for maintenance." At this point it isn't present tense and you need to say "We brought the ... at 1 PM EDT" or the like and then follow up with something like "Down time is currently unknown but will give updates soon."
This isn't rocket science. A update doesn't have to be a long spill. It can be something like "We are still attempting to correct the issue. We don't expect the server to return to service this hour."
So far what we get is forum devs spending more time closing threads complaining about the downtime and less on informing their player base about the status of the server. This really needs to improve if they wish to keep subscriptions.
