Discussion about Aegis of Galenwe

Aegis of Galenwe: This Item Set has been redesigned.
OLD:
2: Max Health
3: Healing Taken
4: Stamina Recovery
5: After successfully blocking, heal an ally within 15 meters for 3440. This effect can occur once every 2 seconds.
NEW:
2: Max Health
3: Minor Aegis
4: Healing Taken
5: After successfully blocking, you have a 50% chance to grant Empower to 3 allies within 15 meters, increasing the damage of their next Light Attack by 40%. 1 second cooldown.
I have been thinking about this set, and I don't quite understand why you guys would put a perma blocking set in this game, if you guys want to move away from perma blocking. You don't really get to use this set and it reduces the pace of gameplay.

I was thinking of some interesting concepts and it could be possible to make it a damage taken instead of blocking damage?

Or if there is still time to completely rework the set around the buff it gives and if the person wearing the sets does a light attack, it will give a 50% chance to empower 3 allies? It would go along with the 1 second cooldown.

It is PvE tanking set, and it fits perfectly in tank+3DD group. What is your problem with it? Do your tank light attack more than block?

We were having this discussion in the PVE tanking thread.

I didn't realise that Aegis was applied so late in the damage mitigation formula as to not matter at all for tanks.
Perhaps its % should be lowered and then applied first.

You do not often block 100% of the time anymore, there isn't a need to unless its a heavy attack. Better to be procing your enchantments light attacking and keeping up debuffs.

It's a nice looking set but it's kinda unappealing for what it could be. And yes you do light attack more than block

Either that or when you light attack. Kind of prefer the light attack, introduces players to what zos has been trying to push tanking to be like instead of permablocking

What do you mean what for, putting the extra effort in to get higher crusher uptimes is always welcome, light attacking will just help you get the uptimes you are looking for. https://prnt.sc/ir6v3z
Always light attack and even heavy attack if you can, there is no reason not to.

I do combo of LA and HA with skills *all the time* unless I need to block a mechanic. Idk why anyone wouldn't. Procs weakening and crushing more often and helps get WH up quicker as well as keeping my Stam up.

To clarify: if you’re running some dot to keep your enchants up 100% and can sustain permablocking fine, then sure go ahead and permablock. The damage a tank’s la/ha contribute likely isn’t going to make much difference.

Nifty’s point is that zos has stated that they want to encourage more tactical blocking and not have tanks just permablock for a fight. So it seems counterintuitive for them, with that goal in mind, to then introduce a set that you’ll get the most out of if you permablock. It doesn’t fit with their purported vision for tanking.

Why light attack while not blocking when you can heavy attack while not blocking? unless you have to cast slit of skills quickly...

btw lights and heavies don't offer any additional ulti it's the same ulti regen u get from healing and blocking

I don’t think tanking sets should be tailored for main tanking bosses in vet trials only. This set would be really fun for vDSA but I wouldn’t want to rely on procs from light attacks there.

Heavy attacking takes longer so if the set kept its 1 second cd, proccing off of light attacks would allow you to proc it more often (assuming the snb ha takes longer than a second, which iirc it’s something like 1.4 second cast time). I don’t think proccing off of la with the other conditions/buffs remaining exactly the same would be the ideal end design for this set, but a step in the right direction away from its current iteration.

I am not the OP, but my tank actually DOES light attack more than block...my tank only blocks when its NEEDED...you know, for heavy attacks, or if I have so many mobs aggroed on me I actually need to mitigate damage beyond what my resistances and constant shields can handle...and that's the way tanking SHOULD be...you should be acrtively doing other things than blocking, light attacks, heavy attacks, buffs, debuffs, utility skills like chains or talons, etc. Yes, you can do most of these while blocking...but if I had to play a perma-block playstyle, I simply wouldn't tank...its boring and takes little skill. Block is a skill that should be applied judiciously, not constantly...no wonder people don't want to play tanks with the perma-block meta.

Because people like feeling useful. And if course dps "look at my 4.5k dps compared to all those other tanks 4.3k dps"

I have to agree with Gaggin though. Why would any tank EVER light atk? Either heavy atk or just don't, it's not like you can "double" proc crusher. Which should be on a timer like every five seconds to either heroic slash or puncture which you should be doing anyway to keep 100% uptime on heroism, and breach/fracture.

If uptime are something you really care about just back bar ice staff and keep up WoE, or dual wield and blade cloak, or bow and endless hail, or.... Any DoT really.

I'm fairly sure, if you broke it all down, the highest scoring leaderboard trial groups maximize all forms of damage, including LA from tanks.

I see this as a great set to use with the shield ultimate since you'd be empowering light attacks for 3 group members for 6 seconds and wouldn't even have to press block. Say you've got a tank and he's running with 3 sorcs using overload. he pops the ulti, and most of those overload strikes will get a huge buff. It could also be coordinated with other ulti buffs.

I also see it as a somewhat interesting Werewolf Pack PVP set in spite of the useless 3 piece bonus. Maybe paired with twin sisters, pelinal's, acuity or something else that is affected by light attack damage like kvatch gladiator. The WW synergy also buffs LA by 15%, and CP can get another 60% or so between mighty, master at arms, and the light attack cp star.

So maybe with one permablock DK using it and the shield ultimate, 2 werewolves, and an overload sorc healer, you could maximize the burst potential of this set.
