Best way to acquire nirnhoned trait?

Ok, so the general consensus is that you get the trait from another player (guild mate making a piece, or from guild stores) but where did their knowledge of the trait originate? Is it all cloned from that one quest reward being deconstructed in the past (by 40-odd different players to account for all possible items)?

If there's some other source, I'd like to know.

As far as I know, that is the only source of nern given by the game itself (i.e. not another player).

I found nirnhoned armor pieces to be fairly "cheap" (once you get to where under 10k is cheap) compared to nirnhoned weapons for research. I'd try extra hard to get a guildie to make your weapons out of nirncrux you find. It takes a while to find 'em sometimes, just gotta farm Craglorn a lot until you get them. You may have to be patient. The recent event gave me more nirncrux than I'd seen in a few months of farming for it.

Same here. I keep getting surveys in Craglorn, but have not seen any Nirncrux drop from them, nor any isolated nodes along the way. I don't have a huge stock that will let everyone learn everything.

I'm wondering what the best strategy is for learning the trait. It looks like I should start with someone who has no traits learned on the piece in question, and have them replicate for the other crafters, a few hours later. The question then is whether to give priority to more pieces learned, or having every crafter learn the same piece ASAP. My main crafter who knows more motifs will get second round each time, so I'm ready for any Master Writ needing it, but what's best for the rest?

I'm not sure there's really a reason for anyone other than your crafter to learn Nirn. Unless you're wanting to be a completionist on your alts. I'm not sure that the small increase in chances for a MW is worth it, but if you've got plenty of Nirn to go around or plenty of gold to buy them, then why not?

As for me, only my main knows Nirn. All of my alts are 8 traits, but I've just not felt the need to have them learn Nirn. Also, my alts do very well at providing me with MWs for gear crafts - more so than my main. They only know 8 traits and the basic/holiday motifs.

There's one quest in Craglorn that gives a nirnhoned random nirnhoned item, can be a weapon or armor piece:
    http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Dawn_of_the_Exalted_Viper

Other than that vMA & vDSA can drop nirnhoned weapons, trial and PvP leaderboard may drop legendary weapons and armor in nirnhoned and of course players who have researched the trait and make items for research
