Best way to acquire nirnhoned trait?

Basically I have all traits unlocked for medium armor except the nirnhoned trait. What's the best/cheapest way to get these traits researched?

For 1 piece you can finish the Craglorn questline, and you get a single item with the nirnhoned trait.

VMA weapons can come in nirnhoned.

    Most people's way:

    1. Acquire nirn. This can be by purchasing the stone from a guild store, or farming Craglorn nodes.
    2. Ask guildie to use said nirn to make whatever item you want.
    3. Profit (except you don't profit.. but hey now it's researched!)

Basically what Miss Bizz said. If you're in a guild, there may be a crafter who will make research items for either low cost or free. The only exception tends to be nirnhoned, only because the nirncrux can be hard to find, or expensive.

Definitely guild stores. Just filter the weapons by trait and they should pop up quite fast. They are around 15-16K a piece on EU-PC, and armor is maybe 4-5K. Doing the Craglorn quest on your 1st character is fun, but not a really effective way to farm that for subsequent runs as you could farm gold many times over in the same time to buy it. vMA, vDSA, PvP (you have to be in the top 3% at the end of the campaign) and weekly trial leaderboard rewards is an option, but weapons obtained in this way are usually too good to sacrifice for research, unless they are pretty bad set/item combo, ex. Ninrhoned Eternal Yokeda resto staff.

Exactly. I'd think most guildies will do it for free as long as you supply the nirn.

I see two viable options for acquiring the trait on medium armor. The best option in my opinion is to find someone that will make you pieces with the trait. Fortified nirn is pretty cheap in the scheme of things so even if you had to buy the nirncrux you could still get all your medium armor done for under 10k.

The second option is to buy armor with it already on it from guild stores. There are people who make level 1 gear with the trait for research purposes. You will pay 1.5k to 5k for each piece in most cases. Its a slightly more expensive option.

These are really the only two good solutions for learning the trait in a efficient manner that i can see.

I know I do, but in case others might charge, I didn't want to say everyone would.

Also I think the cost of the item in guild stores would take into account the cost of the nirncrux. I have made and donated for guild raffles full sets of nirnhoned gear. However I don't think I'd be willing to make it for sale and lose gold on the deal. Fortified nirncrux were around 5k the last time I looked. If you can find nirnhoned gear for 1.5k I'd consider it a super deal and buy it immediately.

On both PC servers you can buy it all day long for under 1200 gold each. Dont know about console prices.

Yeah they're cheap enough to just buy from guild traders. Spending the time to go through Craglorn is less time efficient than just buying the pieces you need and then making the money back. Console prices (at least xbox prices) are always under 10k, and almost always under 5k last I checked, probably closer to 1 or 2k now.

I spent a little bit of time this weekend going around Craglorn seeing if I could get any Nirncrux to drop from farming mats and was completely unsuccessful. Def not worth the time (in my experience) when I can just buy it.

I guess it depends on how much time you have.

I can play during the day so when I started the 7th trait I also started running one circuit around Craglorn..Mon-Fri only and in the mornings. I went one weekend and never again..place was barren and full of players running around looking for nodes. I didn't fight any mobs and didn't stray too far from the road..only picked what I could see that was clear of mobs.

That got me well on my way to having the nirn to ask guildies to make a piece of gear/weapon for me to research.
I'm now just starting on the nirn trait and I have over 40 nirns saved up.

I also stop to grab runes and other flowers so my inventory is always full.

I typically go to craglorn and just do a circuit around the zone sticking to the road.
    I harvest ore/wood/cloth and don't fight mobs.

Started this when I was researching my 7th trait. I'm doing 8th trait now and I have enough nirn to have guildies make research items for me.

Drops all over craglorn now. From ore/wood/fiber nodes, rarely from creatures that drop hide. [I was rather surprise when I got one off a welwa once.] But not from flowers/alchemy or enchanting nodes.

The mat drops all over Craglorn, but a single researchable item only drops at the end of the Craglorn story questline. For all other researchable items, it's helpful guildies or the guild stores.

It basically depends on the item. Some items are worthless in NIrn so they are cheap from the guild traders because the people making them know they will only be used for research. But you might have to search a bit. On the other hand, you have 30 days to find the next trait, lol.

Some items are extremely valuable in nirn because they are best for certain builds and these items will be 15-30 k or more at a guild trader and you might not even find white ones at all. For these items you definitely want to ask someone a favor to craft it for you. So save your nirn for these specific items.

If you are on PC/NA let me know, I'll hook you up. I think due to the anniversary and transmutation Fortified is selling for average of 1000 each now and I don't think it will likely recover, ever since they changed fortified it's never been good on anything but a shield, because reinforced is better.

Potent Nirn on the other hand is the money maker. It's rarer and more desirable. Potent does more for the weapon than Fortified does for the armor. And contrary to popular belief you can loot Potent from Welwa and Clothing nodes. It's still holding at north of 14k on PC/NA though, so when you get to that you can expect to pay more.

For anyone starting out on crafting, don't wait until your last trait to do Nirn, do it early. Then craft the trait and sell it in your guildstores to make a profit.

Ok, so the general consensus is that you get the trait from another player (guild mate making a piece, or from guild stores) but where did their knowledge of the trait originate? Is it all cloned from that one quest reward being deconstructed in the past (by 40-odd different players to account for all possible items)?

If there's some other source, I'd like to know.
