Let Us Hide Threads from Users We’ve Ignored

There is no good reason it doesn’t work like this already, and it’s a serious oversight in design. Let us hide threads we know are filled with garbage we don’t want to see.

Would it be only threads X person creates or if they posted in it? If it just requires a post I could see some of the bigger trolls just posting in almost everything just so all posts get hidden.

Threads they create. Posts are already hidden with the ignore feature, except their opening posts in threads they make. Those aren’t hidden and can’t be hidden with the current system.

The ignore feature is nearly useless on these forums unfortunately. You shouldn't see threads created by people on your ignore list and any comments made by them should just not show up at all. There are some people I just don't want to read at all, yet they seem to shoot out 10 new threads of uselessness daily.

Given how they respond to legitimate questioning about their design choices, verse a forums troll that’s been here for far too long, it’s hard to tell

this is interesting - I didn't even know the forums had an "ignore" feature...

there should be some kind of badge for this...

"you have now been ignored by 5, 10, 25, etc. people"...

So let me get this straight You Ignore someone and You know you Ignored them. Yet you still read the threads they create so you can come to the forum to create another thread to CRY about it?

    Brilliant

The current ignore feature works well for situations where a particular user is being rude, insulting, or harassing and a forum poster simply doesn't want to see it or have further communication.

It doesn't work very well when someone just wants to ignore all existence of a particular forum poster they don't want to hear from or see any of their threads.

Personally I don't have anyone on ignore because I found it odd to be able to see someone's threads but not their subsequent comments.

Their threads shouldn’t show up at all. Especially when they’re know to spam threads that get in the way of threads I actually give a hoot about.

    Ignoring? Or hiding threads?

There’s no way to ignore a user on the mobile interface, and even on desktop it requires going to their profile first (which is counterintuitive to the whole “ignoring” thing)

afaik hiding threads has never been an option

If you've ignored someone, wouldn't you like to completely ignore them and not see their threads as well as their comments?

That's actually why I dont have anyone on ignore, because I think its strange to be able to read their thread (the opening argument) and not read any of their comments in the ensuing debate. Admittedly, I've never felt the need to ignore anyone for rude or insulting behavior, which I suspect the forum ignore feature in aimed at.

You do have a choice do not click that thread.

So the one you Ignored is not the problem you are if you are so easily baited into reading their threads so you can CRY about it in a new thread.

The ignore function should actually ignore, regardless of anyone's feelings.

I would like to think an ignore function is unneeded in a heavily moderated forum where trolling violates the ToS, but alas..

What I have a problem with are people that have an issue they can solve themselves....

But expect others to hold their hand and prevent them from doing something they know and admit they Know is Stupid.
Like reading threads from people they have put on Ignore.

    don't like the poster?

    don't open the thread.

Sometimes you look at threads and think "Is that bait? Yeah, that's bait. No devs would seriously listen to such a bad idea."

Then you think "Well, what if they do? Thats a terrible idea, I should explain why in case, heaven forbid, some dev thinks that's a good idea."

And that's how you end up taking the bait. Good intentions leading exactly where you'd expect...

(No specific posters in mind for this example, I promise, this happens a lot of the forums)

Many forums are designed in this manner. A new discussion thread isn't a post. Posts are tied to thread discussion IDs, which can be blocked (or in this forum's design, hidden).

This is why posts are deleted even when offending posts aren't. Anything attached by ID string is swallowed up.

    Convenient, but not perfect.

If you want to truly hide things on a web page, you're going to need add-ons which have the ability to hide elements within a page (post rendered).

All post authors are shown in the listing.

Can't understand why anyone would click on a thread started by someone they're ignoring.

I love it. I've learned the pictures of the posters with nothing to contribute for the most part. I will say some posters I enjoy reading have the same forum avatar as those I ignore, so I'm pretty sure I ignore them by mistake sometimes, but you can usually tell by the topic, too.

There are some people I just don't want to read at all, yet they seem to shoot out 10 new threads of uselessness daily.

I don't mind the blanked section of ignored persons comment as it does give me chance to see if they have become intelligent enough to warrant another look.

I would not mind being able to manually hide a thread as long as there is a hidden threads tab I could go to. Allows to restore if you wish. There are some threads just not relevant to me that I would like to remove from the clutter, such as console only issues since I am a PC only player.

Also really wish people would list if they are PC or Console in their tagline. Seen a number of complaint posts that you can not tell then a ways in it comes out that it's happening on a system I don't use.

it sounds crazy, but, it's not that hard to be oblivious for a long time to our own nature, behavior and mannerisms...

I was in my late 20's before I became aware that there were folks out there whom didn't like me...

in my head I thought I was a nice person who was easy to get along with - truth is, i'm from new york so there are times when I can be pretty loud and arrogant...

at the time I was hosting a darts tournament in my office...i was curious why some folks in the company didn't want to particpate...

I found out by talking to others that some of those folks just didn't like me...

it kind of threw my world upside down for a bit...it was a very good lesson though that I learned a bunch from...

In my opinion of browsing the forums for a few months now.. people who are getting ‘harassed’ and ‘offended’ are more often than not just having their opinions challenged.

Anything of ‘literal’ harassment would be dealt with by a moderator. Stop being professionally offended by new things everyday.
