There is no good reason it doesn’t work like this already, and it’s a serious oversight in design. Let us hide threads we know are filled with garbage we don’t want to see.

There have been lots of suggestions concerning forum functionality. Not sure how customizeable these forums are. Something that could help along these lines would be the ability to hover over a thread title to see the first part of the OP. I make some threads people like and some don't, but I try to make it clear in the title what the topic is before they decide whether to bother clicking. Many I see are just bait titles and even if they might have something fun or worthwhile I tend to skip those threads.

That would work well in tandom with hiding threads of ignored forum members.

Yes - Ignore should work this way.

In the meantime one should use disclipine and restraint.

Don’t like the poster? Don’t read their posting. Gosh.

Ideally, putting a poster on "Ignore" should hide all his topics and posts, including when quoted by others.

However, in my view a lot of the problems people have on the forums would be removed if we could only create a topic once per week, and a poll once per month, in addition to unlimited comments on other people's topics and polls.

100% agree. Hide threads made by ignored users. this has so much potential to significantly reduce forum toxicity and closure of threads.

Please make this a thing. Or make reporting people from the forums, who are CLEARLY trolling with their threads, way easier.

this is interesting - I didn't even know the forums had an "ignore" feature...

there should be some kind of badge for this...

"you have now been ignored by 5, 10, 25, etc. people"...

Didn't this USED TO BE a feature, but now is no longer available??

i kinda wanna know now who has me on silence :p

i mean - in our heads - we probably all think we're charming people with lots of good stuff to share - but, in reality - no doubt my voice must grate on some...

    we need an elephant...

    When-Someone-Wont-Shut-Up.jpg

I love it. I've learned the pictures of the posters with nothing to contribute for the most part. I will say some posters I enjoy reading have the same forum avatar as those I ignore, so I'm pretty sure I ignore them by mistake sometimes, but you can usually tell by the topic, too.

it sounds crazy, but, it's not that hard to be oblivious for a long time to our own nature, behavior and mannerisms...

I was in my late 20's before I became aware that there were folks out there whom didn't like me...

in my head I thought I was a nice person who was easy to get along with - truth is, i'm from new york so there are times when I can be pretty loud and arrogant...

at the time I was hosting a darts tournament in my office...i was curious why some folks in the company didn't want to particpate...

I found out by talking to others that some of those folks just didn't like me...

it kind of threw my world upside down for a bit...it was a very good lesson though that I learned a bunch from...

sometimes we may not know ourselves until we can see ourselves through the eyes of others...

The people I'm referring to have been told they are annoying, or post too much, or a lot about nothing. I'm pretty good at reading people, so I usually know if people don't like me. Luckily, I've only had a handful of co workers that weren't keen on me. Though, reading people through text is hard. I'm sure most dislike me ;P

You do realise you can already hide threads you don't like right?

Don't open threads with people you've ignored..

@DanteYoda I Googled unsuccessfully so I'll just ask you; how do I hide threads? I didn't know we had that function and now I need it, and I'm grateful you mentioned it.

Have to agree with the OP though, it would be a lot easier if using the Ignore function would just do that automatically for us. I'm pretty sure that if someone is enough of a d-bag for me to Ignore them, I'm never going to want to read anything they type ever again, even a subject header.

You can't hide them.. But you can use will power to not open them so technically they are hidden from you.. You just need to read the thread openers name and move on to the next thread.

Practice mental-mastery. Everything we see or picture is connected to a thought. Imagine that person doesn't exist. If you see a thread they created, imagine you didn't see it and it doesn't exist. No thought of that person = they don't exist.

    Smile about it :-)

All threads are filled with garbage, so if you stamp and scream hard and long enough you may get your way, only to be left invariably staring at a blank page!

Ignoring people with opposing ideas shows weakness. Why should they have to follow you around and cater to your weaknesses?
