I'm glad you came to this realization, but I don't understand how people don't think of this as the absolute first order consideration in a game with the term RPG in it. I'm paying this game to fill my fantasy of being what I wish I could be in real life, and it's very specific. If I can't do that, I drop the game (or in most cases, never start).

I’m m right there with you on that. I joined ESO thinking it was the Elder Scrolls 6 or Skyrim Online and it’s just...NOT. My choice that weekend was to download the Bruma mod for Skyrim or download Eso and I chose Eso. I’m glad I did. I find the constant competition fun, and having to learn stuff to get better challenging. THOUGH, I find the quests and consequently most PVE content mind numbingly boring because it’s overly repetitive.
I started a new play through of Skyrim a few weeks back to see if I had gone crazy and just hated quests. Nope, just the ones in ESO. ZOS should put out better fare lol.
Though, I AM that player who enjoys a good RPG. When you put it the way you put it I do get it. You can get blinded by PvP and dismiss other aspects of the game like PvE if you don’t focus on it. If the quests in ESO were just a tad better I’d have gotten it all along.
Reading through the posts here I can understand most people’s frustrations about the light attack nerf and 2H vs DW in PVE. ZOS seems to think making 2H worth 2slots is actually some kind of buff.
If I were questing 2H or grouping for a dungeon I wouldn’t want to be judged for 2H; and, I have to admit I’ve snickered at 2H’s in dungeons and at dolmens. 2H whole skill line should probably be completely reworked as someone noted earlier.
First off... Why are you using a 2H in PvE? You are making trade offs for using it so please don't ask for it to be buffed simply because it doesn't preform as well as something else that is meant for something else.
The 2H skill tree is built differently than DW. With 2H you have rally, a powerful stamina heal, (pretty useful in vMA sometimes) but lacks powerful single target DoTs which are key to high PvE DPS. 2H also has sustain passive for when you kill an enemy. Now DW on the other hand is built for higher DPS with less versatility in it's skill tree and more focus on damage.[*] DW attacks are faster than 2H
[*] Light attack DPS considering speed of DW seems to be 46% more than 2H
Light attack speed should be the same if I'm not mistaken. Heavy attack speed is however different and that is mostly due to the fact 2H has an empower passive after a fully charged heavy attack.
Tempestwrath wrote: »A common theme I've seen in this thread is people repeating the old "DW is for PVE and 2H is for PVP, deal with it" schtick. This idea is a tired, stale meme at this point. It's myopic, counterproductive, and fails to provide any useful discourse.
Why would anyone reasonably want less variety? It's entirely possible for 2H and DW to be viable in all game types while giving them fundamentally different play styles. In fact, we already have multiple examples in the game of skill lines that find viable roles in all content:
1) Sword and Shield
2) Destruction Staves
3) Restoration Staves
4) Bows
All of these are used in PVP and PVE in varying roles and capacities. Even DW, while being used more often in PVE, is still viable in PVP in certain classes, if played with skill.
So, why should DW be restricted to PVE and 2H to PVP? What good does that serve the game? The only people this idea appeals to are those already invested in their particular build, be it in PVE or PVP, and are scared to death of the potential of being outperformed by something different. That attitude only serves to make the game smaller, less dynamic, and less diverse than it could be. And that's a shame.

Don’t hate because people who enjoy DW in PvE are outperforming you. YOU are not FORCED to use 2H in PVE (like I am forced to in PvP as a StamDK). You CHOOSE to use 2H in PVE. If you’re chosen last on the playground because you’ve got a big sword on your back, YOU chose to be that kid.
Instead of begging ZOS for a buff (or a nerf of DW) roll another toon or choose better gear. I personally wouldn’t vote you out the group if your low dps were an issue. I always abstain hehehehe.

2H is probably still the worst, but can you guys test?

Weapon Test Live Difference 2h LA: 2552 3062 83% of live 2h HA: 4187 5372 78% of live dw LA: 2589 2388 108% of live dw HA: 3894 4544 86% of live bow LA: 2324 1980 117% of live bow HA: 4976 5305 94% of live
Re-used the Live results from the first run, and re-did the test results with the exact same scenario (no food, same sets and skills equipped, same purple untraited weapons, etc)
Note: I realized that I have FDB equipped on my DW or 2H bar, and trap equipped on my bow bar, which means DW/2H will be 5% higher than bow. I took clean numbers from test but don't have time to get the numbers from live again tonight so maybe I'll post them tomorrow.
4.0.2 results:Weapon Test Live Difference 2h LA: 2552 3062 83% of live 2h HA: 4187 5372 78% of live dw LA: 2589 2388 108% of live dw HA: 3894 4544 86% of live bow LA: 2324 1980 117% of live bow HA: 4976 5305 94% of live
At this point it's just a joke. Across the board nerf for 2h vs live. Now, if I had the extra stamina from my food buff it would be closer but still weaker than live, and DW and Bow of course would be even better off.
Hey, I agree. I don’t think it’s laziness on ZOS’s part. I think they over think it because they are trying to sell something. They are not invested in the game as art per se; but, rather view it as a product. They race around trying to please SOME imaginary someone who might just plunk down some money for that game.Khivas_Carrick wrote: »JumpmanLane wrote: »Why would you bother playing 2H in PVE if it is gimped so much. Because you shouldn't be gimped for choosing to play how you want to play in a game that has incentives to play how you want to play.
Plus it's really not that hard to balance it out, it's pure laziness at this point and nobody wants to be the same as everybody else, that's just boring as ***.
I guess only rational "explanation" is that 2H is rarely used in PvE (after all they have all stats) so why not as only tiny minority is going to be upset and from their POV it's worth it as long as PvP community is ok with it.mr_wazzabi wrote: »Re-used the Live results from the first run, and re-did the test results with the exact same scenario (no food, same sets and skills equipped, same purple untraited weapons, etc)

This is ridiculous. What the hell @zos_ginabruno @zos_wrobel ?

Unless ZOS listens to our feedback for once.
Right @ZOS_GinaBruno @zos_wrobel ?

This is the road to leaving the game, playing something you don't want to play.
@ZOS_GinaBruno @zos_wrobel any fedback on why you want to nerf 2H on PVE? We haven't heard any reason.
I don't play trials, but I would never initiate vote to kick somebody from vet. group dungeon if s/he uses 2H and never remember somebody did the same...But we do see trials teams kick us, for using 2H. And we do see vet dungeon teams kick us, for using 2H.

This fellow was able to parse within 5.7% of Dual Wield, sometimes as close as 4.5%, in a number of 6M dummy parses. 38430 for the 2H setup, and 40752 for the DW setup. Part of these numbers are from the new Relequen set, which seems to be overperforming a little bit right now, but this is at least somewhat encouraging.
This doesn't really change the ultimate point of this topic, because this topic's request of upping 2H light attack damage should, in theory, bring it even closer to par with DW, but within ~5% is entirely respectable for 2 handed weapons in a trial setting, and is a smaller variance than is typically accounted for, than say, player skill.

It’s easy to get lost in the constant competition to “win” in PvP or reach the heights of a leaderboard in Pve. Yet, when you remember that ESO is a game, which people just want to play their own way within a myriad of choices, it is very easy to understand people’s issues with 2H, (now and in the coming update).
Deep down I get it.

With the fact that DW can have an axe + dagger, two enchants, and a better ST bleed; the 2H really needs to have superior light and heavy attacks in order to bridge the gap.

I still think 2H users are very rare in PvE and that's why they ignore you. I hardly see anybody uses 2H in overland content (I don't count new low level players) and super rare in group dungeons.
It's really sad that bow/bow (there are numerous threads how to redo several garbage bow skills) and 2H players are second class citizens to DW in PvE. At least bow* is somehow very slowly moving forward but still...
*Mainly used as backbar weapon which is sad.
