Maintenance for the week of May 11:
• PC/Mac: No maintenance – May 11
The PTS is now offline for the patch 12.0.4 maintenance and is currently unavailable.

Staff tanking needs only one tweak to be viable.

Tempouille
Dear all,

Please consider adding a passive that allow to move at full speed while blocking with a staff (same as shield passive). Any serious tank knows that mobility is way to important to snare yourself. Thanks!

    This is definitely needed.

Not sure if that' be enough to put in on par with S&B, though.

And a new animation, because the classic staff one seem light for a tanking weapon.

But the speed passive is far, far more important.

Staff tanking needs a lot more than one tweak to be viable.

What would you suggest, taking into count that you stand infront of a monster that is 10 times taller than you and always hits on your shield only when you block on S&B?

When you press block like an icy barrier goes around the character or an ice wall just infront.

Anything, just not the staff held sideways lol

They already have the effects in the game with the frost mages that put up the frost walls. Although I would suggest that a heftier frost wall is summoned during the heavy attack that acts as a damage shield. Something to help with that agonizingly slow taunt.

The weird thing is the more they do to make staff tanking viable, the sillier it is to imagine my tank with a little stick being as tanky as when he's holding this giant metallic shield in front of him.

Would be nice if they really went into and reworked the animation or just added more variety to the options.... (not that the speed change is a bad idea, but)... for example, if I heavy attack with my sword/board I don't get a free taunt and free shield - so that's a benefit to staff tanking. So in place of just making a mirror image of every benefit you get from sword/board, I'd rather see more unique tanking benefits that fit a defensive staff build.

They could add it to the Ancient Knowledge passive (while Ice Staff Equipped) - so that it does Block more, Cost less and increase movement speed while blocking.

Ice staff is imperfect tanking tools , ZOS made another big mistake again .

As a tank , you can run both SNB , but you cannot run both Ice staffs , you will have no cheap cost and fast taunt skill - Puncture , Inner rage spent 4051 magicka , too much and wont consider .
You lost all useful S&B like passives .

HA taunting , it's OK when we are in easy content , DLC HM ? Trial ? :D

Ice staff cannot replace S&B at this moment, I suggest that ZOS please rework the destructive staff line , all skill provides 3 different versions when you equip different staff , thank you !

If we have fast low cost ice staff taunt skill , I will give it a try , thank you !

my current complaint with frost staff tanking is the no reliable CC, you lose a crap ton of armor, the heavy attack shield is so small its not worth depending on hell you can remove that part completely and straight up give the 8% damage intake reduction minor buff and the last part, taunting is so much slower because of HA.

fix these issues and i'll show off a semi competent frost tank build
PLEASE REPLY TO ME WITH @dsalter otherwise i'm likely to miss the reply if its not my own thread
