I was going to say something about "a skill line for being patient and pressing a button?"

But that's not so different from the Psijic Order or the Mages Guild, so maybe its not so strange.

Though I confess that I have Master Angler and no idea what would be in a fishing skill line.

    Ideas:

Increased chances to get green/blue fish, better quality items in gunny sacks, ability to tell which water is which without that one food/drink/whatever item being active, hirelings to give special bait/lures, and greater likelihood of extracting perfect roe. Those are all things that would make the grind less tedious and encourage more people to get fishing.

Each caught fish would give exp, just like each lorebook gives exp to increase Mage's Guild and each daedra/undead klled increases Fighter's Guild. The higher the rarity, the more exp you get. Completing the fishing collection for a zone gives a one-time boost, akin to completing a book collection or closing a dolmen.

A daily quest/writ would be to go to a given region and catch a specific green/blue fish. If you already have it, you don't have to go find it.

Id rather not have a skilline that makes it easier and devalues master angler. If it doesn't increase rarer fish caught then yes

I know I will probably get executed buffet-style (lethally injected, electrocuted and placed before a firing squad) for this one, but how about making fishing actually challenging? Games like Stardew Valley make such a great job of it, when you have a hard fish on the hook, you feel like you are actually properly fighting the fish that is trying to get away. Makes getting a catch so much more rewarding.

If the loot pool weren't so diluted with loot bags and furnishings, I'd be willing to consider this. As it is now, Mastler Angler is enough of an exercise in patience and RNG that I dont think it needs more challenge.

Perhaps this could be added to DLC or Chapter zones instead!

Value is in the eye of the seeker. Personally, I view Master Angler as nothing but a boring grind standing between me and the completion of my dye collection. I'm all in favor of leaving the title as a reward for getting the achievement without unlocking the passives. Or from catching a million fish, if you haven't obtained it prior to the skill tree existing. Anything along those lines is totally fine by me.

How many fish does Stardew Valley have? More than ESO? A challenge would be cool, and it'd definitely make fishing more interesting, but ... Holy cow, would that be a lot to do for someone starting fresh.

I already have that, it took me all of I think 3 days to catch everything I needed. I would have enjoyed more skill in my fishing. LIke the higher the skill, the better bait, or being able to craft poles. There could be achievements for fishing in dangerous areas. Killing something with a fishing pole! And there could be house decorations from fishing, being able to hang some of those bigger monster fish up on the wall!
