if you wanna drop hundreds of bucks so be it...who am I to oppose market capitalism lol

Best thing is, let them pay 400 dollars, then you pay them some in game gold that takes like a day to make and get the jewelry crafted for you.

You get the benefits of someone else paying 400 bucks >:)

Building on my math here where I examined the cost of instantly mastering blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking research: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/399756/pay-to-win-the-math-on-research-scrolls/p1

(FYI: its about 300,000+ crowns or around $2000 in non-sale price crowns)

I decided to look at Jewelry crafting.

This math assumes several things that are not necessarily true.
    A. The person buying scrolls has all of the necessary traits available for research (ZOS intends this acquisition process to be grindy and require different types of content)
    B. The person buying scrolls will have the Jewelry passive for jewelry research maxed before starting any research (most players, I suspect will start research before they have maxed.)

But if these two things are accepted as true, someone could instantly pay to become a master jewelry researcher as follows:

    Crown Store Research Scrolls
The Crown Store Research Scrolls come in 1, 7 and 15 day versions. They do not have a cooldown.
    1 day scrolls - 400 Crowns
    7 day scrolls - 2500 Crowns
    15 day scrolls - 5000 crowns

Again you have the option to waste time on scrolls. Since this one involved much less math to find an optimal use of scrolls, I went ahead and did both options.
    1 trait - wait 4.5 hours or 1 1-day scroll
    2 trait - wait 9 hours or 1 1-day scroll
    3 trait - wait 18 hours or 1 1-day scroll
    4 trait - wait 12 hours and 1 1-day scroll or 2 1-day scrolls
    5 trait - 3 1-day scrolls
    6 trait - 6 1-day scrolls
    7 trait - 1 7-day scroll and 5 1-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 7-day scroll and 4 1-day scrolls)
    8 trait - 1 15-day scroll, 1 7-day scroll and 2 1-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 15-day scroll and 1 7-day scroll)
    9 trait - 2 15-day scrolls (ESO+ gets 1 15-day scroll, 1 7 day scroll and 5 1-day scrolls)

So the cost in scrolls for 1 Cycle is either:
    Patient People Price: wait 43.5 hours and 17 1-day scrolls, 2 7-day scrolls, and 3 15-day scrolls.
    Impatient People Price: 21 1-day scrolls, 2 7-day scrolls, and 3 15-day scrolls
    ESO+: wait 36 hrs 45 min and 19 1-day scrolls, 3 7-day scrolls, 2 15 day scrolls OR 23 1-day scrolls, 3 7-day scrolls, 2 15-day scrolls.

Total Cost for all researching is thus: (2 times waiting, 2 total cycles for necklaces and rings separately)
    Patient People: Wait 87 hours (4 days) and 34 1-day scrolls, 4 7-day scrolls, and 6 15-day scrolls = 53,600 Crowns
    Impatient People: 42 1-day scrolls, 4 7-day scrolls, and 6 15-day scrolls = 56,800 crowns
Patient ESO +: wait 73 hours 30 minute (slightly over 3 days), 38 1-day scrolls, 6 7-day scrolls, 4 15-day scrolls = 50,200 Crowns (possibly a little lower depending on how patient they are on some of the later traits)
    Impatient ESO+: 46 1-day scrolls, 6 7-day scrolls, 4 15-day scrolls = 53,400 Crowns

    Conclusions
    1. Unlike the established crafts of blacksmithing, clothing, and woodworking, its going to be much harder to simply buy your way to all nine traits because of the way traits jewelry is acquired and the grindy nature of leveling jewelry crafting.
    2. Once someone does have all the traited jewelry acquired for research, it will cost approx. 50-55K crowns to purchase the necessary jewelry research scrolls.
    3. Depending on how many crowns you need and which packs you buy, you'd pay roughly between $364 to $400 to "instantly" become a master jewelry researcher. (PC/NA non sale prices)

As usual, if I've screwed up my math or misunderstood something, please feel free to point it out politely. As I've noted, some of the numbers of scrolls or exact cost might differ slightly if you choose to research items a little differently than I did when doing the math. There is more information on how I set this up on the post I linked, so if you have questions about it, please ask or check over there as well.

Finally, I don't myself have a strong opinion on whether or not this constitutes Pay-To-Win. I just like math and find it helpful to know the actual numbers. I find it very interesting to know the cost of become a Jewelry researcher with crowns is about $360-$400. That's certainly more than I want to pay, but if you so desire or you want to complain, now you know the cost.

I think you dont even understand what an rpg game is, rpg stands for role playing game what is in short developing your character by playing the game in every aspect crafting included. Wat it is not is buying goodies from a cash shop to improve your character what you are mentioning in this tread.

You can advance your character in almost every aspect of this game by just playing it, but alot of players are just to lazy for that.

You can advance your character in almost every aspect of this game by just playing it, but alot of players are just to lazy for that.

I'm not sure why you think I don't know what an RPG is when:
    A. ESO is a MMORPG
    B. I've pointed out multiple times this thread that players who choose to advance research by simply playing will take about 5 months to get all 9 traits. In comparison, buying it costs $360-$400 and as I said in the original post, I'm not paying that much.
    C. ZOS is one providing the crown research scrolls "goodies from the cash shop", not me, and I'm not even promoting their use - which you would know if you'd read to the end of the post.

Like it or not, ZOS is giving people the option to advance their research near instantly once they have the traited jewelry and while I don't have much of an opinion on whether its good or bad, I wanted to know how much it cost. Plenty of people whine about "pay-to-win" and have absolutely no idea how much people would be paying. I wanted to know how much it would cost because I'm curious and I like math.

I'm of the opinion that the result is interesting and I think its up to the individual player to decide whether to wait the 5 months of research, use in-game scrolls, or buy crown research scrolls in whatever combination seems best to them. As for myself, I'll be researching the free way. You do what you like.

What about the people that have saved up crowns from Eso+ sub ? I haven't spent crowns since getting this game when it first came out, yes we paid but really not.

What about the people that have saved up crowns from Eso+ sub ? I haven't spent crowns since getting this game when it first came out, yes we paid but really not.

I'm not sure what you are asking? It'll still cost 50,200-53,400 crowns regardless of the source of your crowns, depending on how patient you are.

So if you've been subbed for 34 months, never spent a crown and have the urge to blow it all in one fell swoop, there you go!

    ....

Okay, now my math brain is working: to get 34 months worth of membership crowns most effectively to splurge on crowns, you'd have 5 6-month subscriptions, 1 3 month subscription, and 1 one-month subscription for a total of 51,000 crowns.

That's $446.66 to accumulate 51,000 crowns solely from ESO+ subscriptions at PC/NA current prices. That's higher than the cost I've been citing, because I figured my cost by "buying" the most cost effective crown packs whereas ESO+ members basically get 1500 crowns at the 12.99/14.99 price, a higher rate (but with nifty benefits like the crafting bag).

So bottom line, a pure crown pack to ESO+ crown comparison means that crown packs are a cheaper way to get 50K+ crowns to splurge on jewelry research. However, if you've been subbed for 34 months and haven't spent a crown, want to splurge on crown research scrolls, it'll cost you the same amount of crowns, for which you paid $446.66 (not counting the other benefits of ESO+, see Notes #1 and #2)

Note #1: I'm not counting the various other benefits of ESO+ because they can't be calculated as easily. For example, some people will say with perfect honesty that they'd pay for the crafting bag alone, thus effectively making the rest free so you can see where actually figuring that out would be near impossible.

Note #2: But if I were going to try to partially break down ESO+, the DLC (minus Morrowind, non-sale prices) cost a combined 16,000 crowns or roughly 471 crowns a month spread out over 34 months. So technically that's worth about a third of the cost of ESO+. So if I take that out of the cost of the 51,000 crowns, the cost of those crowns is closer to $306, making it more cost-effective to have accumulated those crowns through ESO+.

Here's the thing, in 3 to 4 weeks, you can be at 6 traits on both types of jewelry. Just because something is added to the game, does not mean it should be available on day 1. So, it will take some time, all things in an MMO do take time.

You can spend the time or spend the money. Me, I will spend the time. I waited 4 years. I can wait another month. The vast majority of sets people craft take 6 traits or less. 7 to 9 trait are really for Niche builds. So really, a month to make the stuff your going to want to make for most combos. Then learn the rest.

Besides I have plenty of Monster Sets to play with. And lots of 5 pieces sets that already have jewelry on mules. I have weeks of testing and farting around.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I'm just going to use the 1 day research scrolls you can buy with writ vouchers, that will allow me to roughly cut research time in half and I don't have to spend a dime to do it.

planning to do this for the early stages then use sub crowns for the rest.
