I should be able to take/steal apples from the Garden of the Sacred Numbers... There's no one there, and nothing stopping me from taking them... another immersion breaker.

I totally understand your frustration. I also find it really difficult to catch subtle changes from an apple. What I do that helps is set an apple on the desk in front of me and stare at it for at least 20 minutes trying not to blink.
