Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver Crash

My girlfriend has been experiencing crashes that I have not been able to fix. When ever she tries to load the game, after the cinematic her screen goes black. The TESO client stops responding and crashes, stating that "Nvidia Kernel Mode Driver has stopped responding" or something to that effect. I have tried registry changes, re-installing the graphics driver, updating it to the latest, rolling it back, and even caressing it sideways to Barry White. This is only happening when she tries to load TESO, all other games and programs are not causing this to happen.

Her current set up is:

CPU: Intel i5 4670k
MB: Asus z87-Deluxe
GPU: Asus GTX 780
PSU: Corsair AX 850 Gold
RAM: G.Skill 16gb DDR3
OS: WIndows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)

Nothing is Overclocked, and nothing is overheating.

Could the cause of this be a sign that her GPU is faulty and needs to be replaced? Any help or comment is appreciated.

If she's not getting any issues with other games, I don't see how it could be her GPU. Try running other games in borderless windowed mode, see if the same thing happens.

Is there a bit coin miner running?

You might want to try running RogueKillerX64 (or 32) and see.

I doubt there is. I have reformatted her computer and it is still occurring. I will look into it though.

My son's PC runs all other games fine, he couldn't get ESO running until he updated to the latest Nvidia drivers, now it runs perfectly.

I had an older Nvidia card that would run 99% of games fine but certain ones would cause the card to hang. Card was on its way out and games that pushed the card showed the problem before other games did.

OP, could be worth your while posting on Nvidia forums as well

Bingo. This fixed it for her. Thanks to everyone who commented.

ESO would periodically present a black screen while I could hear my character still interacting, responsive to my commands, with the game world. Usually, within 10 seconds, ESO would crash. I would get the message that a display driver had stopped working and recovered. I ruled out temperature and the graphics card (at least I think - did a few stress tests). For some reason the new Nvidia driver (for my 660Ti) caused BSOD, so I rolled back to an older version. This tiny little change above, however, seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks - and I post my problem description for anyone else who has the same issue

I am having the same problem, but all my other games run just fine. I will try the above advices, especially appreciate Arcanus Magus's exact wording as I am not too great with technical issues. I am crashing about once an hour, and it's very frustrating.

Same basic symptom for me, but changing out drivers did not work. I did not try the DX11 vs DX9 thing (was not aware of that setting) but for me that would not have mattered. I found out my EVGA GTX 660 SC was defective. ESO uncovered a defect in the card that other games did not exhibit, or did not exhibit enough for me to draw the line.

I could ALWAYS get ESO to crash the driver, even when three different GPU "stress test" programs had trouble catching it (including 3DMark 11).

As it turned out, at least from my perspective, the factory overclock was probably at the very edge of what that particular card could support.

Solved [crash...client fatal error 11] ... just after clicking play on the launcher.
    Fix by changing: "D3D11" -> "D3D9"
(somewhere else said to swap it to "OpenGL" which didnt work for me")

    Thanks, Lovreone.

This also appears to have solved my problem. Many thanks!
