Struggle with gear on magDK

Ok, as mentioned many times old time returning player (last played 2015!) so am trying to get back into the swing of things and atm am playing my Dk as magika. My gear I fear is ancient as......I have 5 "Of the Sun" which gives the nice? burn bonus and then 2 Martial Knowledge. Staff is Widow Voidstaff, not sure where from. Ok, I don't pvp (yet) so am struggling on what gear I need to get to be able to do higher content. Not against buying some as toon was loaded 3 years ago so that's an option, but just what do I get? I see all the gear on builds like ALcasts and Xynodes but that's a ways away fro me at the moment. Any tips with what to run? Stam not and issue as I have full Hundings and apparently its still ok but decided to roll magika since it "might" be all the rage soon? Then again, maybe my gear is ok? Not sure. Cheers!

    Run 2 Zaan/Grothdar/Skoria as a monster set

Then 5 Burning Spellweave, 5 Acuity.

Burning Spellweave is really easy to farm in City of Ash 1, even on Vet for jewellery.

You won't be able to run the full setup until next patch in just over a month, but it's super easy to get and gives top tier DPS.

I play a character called "Gives Me Wood Elf" because I am a mature and sensible person.

All that monster set stuff is great and all but is it doable (to try for) with my current gear?

I have Burning Spellweave (BSW) and Julianos 1 pc grothdar and no special staffs.
Silks of the sun is very very close as far as DPS goes but I wear 1 pc of slimeclaw/iceheart for extra crit when I use it
(In mobile fights where I can't get BSW to proc enough)

Julianos is the Hundings Rage for magicka. Mechanical Acuity is all the rage but I haven't tried it. I heard its a skill based set that's not just stats like Juli is. These two are crafted sets you can pay a crafter with the DLCs to make them. I waited until the ESO+ free week, bought an attuned craft station, went to the location in Wrothgar to attune Julianos and put it in my house.

Normal trials are really quite fun, I suggest you find a guild to run them with... I started them with just 22K dps... I finally broke 25K dps \o/ recently... you don't have to be good to do normal trials.

Lemme ask as a side queation....magDk or stam....preference? I ask because since my return 5 days ago I am really having a hard time picking which. I keep going back and forth and its getting $$$$...lol! So yea, just curious as to what the players are feeling and playing in terms of DKs.

Right now Stamdk is way better, come Summerset MagDK will be a lot better.

I am unfortunately still downloading the PTS so i can't do some tests to see how they compare.

    What race is your character?
MagDks are typically High Elf or Dark Elf
Whille StamDks are Redgaurd or Imperial

"come Summerset MagDK will be a lot better." Based on what? Arent the buffs for Dk a good thing for stam as well? Or is it going to be purely a magika based buff for the class? ANd yea, I have the races, Dark Legolas for mag and Redguard for stam plus mag is a vamp. Just struggling with playstyle and such, and that I like to play a desired class so when it does come to dungeons/etc I am not kicked. Then again, do they do that here? In GW2 man if you aren't raiding with the meta its an insta kick (part of my leaving that game). But yea, guess we wait eh?

Well staffs will count as two pieces. This is a big deal for MagDk because Grothdar, Skoria and Zaan are all very strong for them. So you get 5-5-2 set up.

The problem with MagDK atm is that they lack magicka sustain. There is a change to their passive that gives them effectively 200 mag regen/s. Now that doesn't seem like a lot but it makes all the difference. I means that they can properly sustain their rotation when right now they can't (have to stop and heavy attack).

For StamDk, with dual wield the heavy attack is very fast so heavy attacking for them doesn't lose them too much dps like it does for MagDK
