XBOX Live Gamer Tag and ESO Characters

I am just wondering if a person decided to cancel their xbox live account with Microsoft which would include their current gamer tag and email address and then later created a new account with xbox live with a new gamer tag and email address, would the current saved characters in ESO on the NA server still be playable with the new xbox live account and gamer tag or would they be no longer active and playable in the game on the NA server?

If you unlink your current ESO account from your current Xbox gamertag, it can only be relinked to the same ESO account. A new Xbox gamertag would need to be linked to a different ESO account.

So just to clarify, the characters and all item purchased or items that each character has would only be saved on the current gamer tag and xbox live account if the account t was unlinked and then re-linked at a later date right?

Their is no way to have the characters and all items purchased or got in the game that would be saved and linked to a new gamer tag with the new xbox live account?

You can change your gamertag one time for free, @erichc68s, if you initially didn’t create it yourself ... without having to unlink the account.

If you’re trying to avoid the $10 or 800 microsoft points fee for changing your gamertag, that’s a different question altogether.
