Things to mention before hand
The Idea of this is to concentrate on the weak mechanics of PvP Gameplay. This mean, that you will read a lot of negative aspects. Why? Because nothing changed since i entered my very first campaign. In fact, it got even worse.
Let`s be fair. PvP is great fun and it`s a solid way of spending your Time in the game. There is a million things to learn and even more things to do. The rewards are complete garbage, but the feeling you have, when you just killed 3 gankers in a row is priceless anyway. In the following there will be only a very brief overview of things that need to be changed.
Cyrodiil
The Time
The campaign is open all day, every day - for 30 days. But unfortunately you can only PvP proper for about an hour per day (ish). That`s in Sotha Sil.
Let me explain:
In the morning times, when you are blue or yellow side you will be permanently outnumber, which is why the red side has 4 Scrolls and emperor ship every other morning. You are defending a Keep with 2 or 3 players, while 20 reds open the door in seconds (literally SECONDS!). You could be the best or the worst player in that campaign, there is just nothing you can do. On the other hand, when you are red side all you do the whole morning is siege doors. You are looking at doors for hours and once all is red you just got nothing to do.
Some time in the afternoon, other players start logging on. This is your only chance to do some decent PvP. The only problem is, that 80% of the people around you have never seen a siege before or don`t have one in their inventory. It takes forever to open a castle and when you do, the whole enemy faction has already grouped up on you. No matter what you write, the people don`t learn. Half of the time i wonder, if they even speak my language, when i`m trying to explain. It wouldn`t surprise me, if the mighty and great french players have no clue, what i just wrote.
Then it`s Ball group time. I know there was a patch aiming to split up Ball groups, but it completely went to opposite direction. There is more ball groups then ever and it is ridiculous. There is a blue ball group running inside faregyl, one running inside nikkel and one doing something else. No joke, there is 3 guilds that do ball groups on the blue side. Yellow side is the same, you have a ball group running everywhere, one running brk and alessia and a zerg group taking castles on the end of the map, that you can`t defend anyway. The red side ( i apologize ) is the worst. There is 3 Ball groups that have stacked on each other just overrunning castles with sheer numbers. While blue and yellow have to split up, the reds couldn`t care less, because they just send the entire faction at the castle they want and mostly they will get it.
So for the rest of the night you have Ball Groups fighting each other everywhere and you can`t do anything about those.
After midnight it`s basically turned around from the morning. Most players know, that pvp at morning and day time just is no fun, because of all that and they will log on at night. The result is, that you have the yellows outnumber all others and gankers are just everywhere. Every second there is a new resource under attack and people run around the tower like cowards. The result is, that it takes you 30 Minutes or longer to kill one person, which is tiring and no fun ether.
The Solution
I`m sorry, but i have no Idea that could provide a suitable solution to this. Maybe do something about the ball groups, but this time proper.
The Environment
With this i mean the Design of the map. It looks great, it is aesthetically pleasing and you can`t see it. Most of the time you will have your settings tuned down and all you see is a flat world with no flowers, grass or anything else. There is no real reasons to explore and when you do explore your factions will be outnumbered again. The only good thing is, that most players that you meet are rather friendly. Sometimes they`ll force you to duel, you have the odd ones but most of them just ignore you and let you do your own thing, which is great i love those people. And the places you can see are rather nice. What most people don`t find a problem i think is a huge problem. As example i`ll name sejanus and Aleswell.
Attacking sejanus from the yellow or blue side you will most likely come from the bottom and you`ll have to run up hill. Half of your abilities are bugged or otherwise don`t work, when you are fighting people on top of that hill and it`s so anoying. Also they can put sieges up and hit you from great distance, before you can even get to that keep. The result is, that yellow and red are running back and forth for hours pushing and falling back. Of course it`s not just down to that hill, it`s also the people, but the hill is a problem in my opinion.
Defending aleswell is not possible. In the past few months i`ve not seen once, that aleswell was successfully defended, no matter from which faction, but i only play one faction and it is more then possible, that i have simply missed out on something. The thing is, you have flat ground all around that castle, you can put your sieges anywhere, you can put your camp anywhere and you can split them out widely, so the defending sieges are almost no problem, because they just can not hit that many sieges, when they are spread out.
What i want to say is, that there is a few castles that have a huge advantage or disadvantage due to the terrain around them. This also applies to castles like Alessia and Faregyl, even tho you can only put a very few sieges on that high ground area.
Then there is rocks. Who on earth programmed these rocks wtf man. There is this huge rock near Kingscrest, that you can simply walk over and there is rocks like that everywhere. Then there is tiny little stones that you get stuck on and you`re like... really?... The mechanics behind those rocks is complete garbage i`m sorry to say that, but you did a proper bad job. Name me one person, that was at roebeck and did not get stuck on the stairs north of south of it at least once? And while we are at the stairs: It`s pretty much gambling, if you abilities will work or not going up and down the stairs. I know, that the nightblade has problems with the gap closer, while the 2 hander comes up with ease. The sorcerer with the streak will mostly not be able to get up, but sometimes it does work like magic.
"Objects" - Dragon Bones, Skeletons, Ruins, Ancient Gates, Walls and many other things. EVERY DAMN TIME when i ride out of Faregyl to Alessia or Roebeck i get stuck on this piece of wall, that loads in when you are like half a meter infront of it. There is objects everywhere, that take a long time to load in and you constantly get stuck on them. It is absolutely possible, that this is down to my PC, but i highly doubt, that nobody else has that problem.
The Solution
Those Objects just need to be fixed. You can leave them in, they look nice, but you should be able to see them from distance. The gap closers, stairs and rocks could do with re-writing completely, they are absolutely broken. I highly doubt, that the castle terrain will receive a make over, but maybe the sieges could be adjusted to the area they are placed in. As an example you could have lower range at sejanus and greater range at aleswell while defending.
The Doors and Potions
Oh my god i love these doors. I`m there smashing the Button to go trough, while even my dog looks at me like i am fully ***, but this door.. YOU SHALL NOT PASS. 2 Minutes later, i press once and i`m trough immediately. Sometimes i hit the button, nothing happens and then all of a sudden i went trough the door twice and have to start smashing again. It seems like while in combat the doors react slower and only, when you are right in the middle. This could be pure imagination, i just feel like the doors don`t work at all, when i`m standing on the side and trying to get trough.
I`m in the middle of the open fighting a ganker. I see 2 other enemies closing in fast, so i slowly start dragging the fight to a tree or rock, where i can kill them separately. "Better throw an Immovable potions, so i don`t get cc before reached the area..." - So i press Q, i hear the sound and what happens? Potion didn`t work, i get cc´d and 3 people hit me like a punching bag. Potions are just so broken..
The Solution
I think the Doors could do with a greater range and also the interaction itself needs to be fixed. The Potions are essential for PvP, it`s needless to say, that this should be working flawlessly. I know, that at some point a few months back potions worked without any problem, maybe that`s where you should start looking into it. You pretty much broke it somewhere on the road.
The Spies
In reality it`s to childish to say something to this, but it is becoming a real problem. You want to organize a good attack, tell your faction where and which side and your enemies are there already waiting with all their sieges up. You are trying to get a tactical advantage over your opponent, in Order to take back your home keep and then there is this one little 8 year old kid ruining it for you. Right at one point i have seen a certain blue ball group taking Alessia, while their spy in the yellow faction was standing at the wall not getting attacked. How do i know? He was still wearing the guild tabard and he didn`t realize. So he was telling them every time when yellows where about to breach the door or making a new breach and they then waited for that moment to run out with 30 people putting ultimates on you. It`s just no fun.
The Solution
Honestly, just lock the campaign to one faction. It will make a lot of people unhappy, but there is not much you can do and it was like that before and worked great. You will still have the odd person, but it won`t be that bad anymore. It`s just a huge problem at this stage, because people take it way to serious.
The Rewards
95% of the Rewards are junk items, that you can`t even analyze, because you already got them. You get golden rings and necklaces, that you otherwise wouldn`t get, which is +1, but the amount of times you get something good is just way to low. Once every couple of Months you would have something usefully, the rest is just junk. The past 4 weeks was just junk. You might have found a piece you wanted, but all the good stuff is just to rarely. The transmutation crystals are nice to have, but you mostly will get 3 - 5 for 20 Mails you open containing each 4 to 5 Crystals, which is stupid for all the hard work you`ve done. You very rarely get 10 crystals and the Items you can forget, because you most likely won`t use them. At the end of the campaign you get 50 Crystals, which is the best reward and the only one that you are interested in, because the golden rings are often sold for 5 - 20k and those that are not you probably already have or don`t need. You do not get enough gold to cover the expenses of Potions, so you`ll have to farm to get golden rings that you can sell, which happens to rare or you can farm materials yourself or you`re just a rich donky and don`t give a ...
The Solution
At this point i just don`t think, that any reward can actually be truly worth it. A whole new reward system needs to take place. Maybe you could put set-crafting-tables without the requirements. As example you need 9 traits for pelinals, so with that crafting table you would need x AP, instead of traits. This is just a raw Idea and won`t work like that, you will have to put more thoughts into it, but it is better, then have a potent ring that just goes to the next trader.
The Crowd Control
It`s ruined. it`s just so ruined. You have pretty much every player has some sort of cc in their slots. Your potions and spells last 5 - 10 seconds and have 45 seconds cooldown or cost lot of resources. When you play against so many people with a cc you are just doomed, there is no other way to say it. 90% of the fight is cc and whoever cc`s first will most likely win the fight. When you have a stamina class, you`ll break free or roll dodge and then you get another cc, you break free / roll dodge, another cc etc.. And after 3 or 4 cc your resources are bust. You can`t fight anymore, but if you not break free you`re dead. If you have a magicka class you MUST have some sort of stamina glyph or set or food, otherwise you won`t be able to break free more then once. And even when you do, you can max break free 2 or if you`re lucky 3 times, which is just not enough. The poisons you have for cc immunity do not work at all in Cyrodiil, they are completely useless (i think poisons in general need an overhaul, as only like 3 or 4 types out of what 50? are used).
The Solution
You need immunity after break free. It`s okay, if the potions don`t last for ever, they are not supposed to last for ever and you want to be able to cc to, but you just got to have something to stop you from constantly being stunned or whatever. Maybe have like 10 seconds immunity to all sorts of cc, after break free, but not after roll dodge.
Battlegrounds
I probably missed it, but is there any rewards for this? Anyway, Battlegrounds is the way to go for you. Honestly i love Battlegrounds even tho i`ve only been a few times. It`s a lot more fun, you don`t have to struggle with your system requirements ( laggs, fps, ram, etc ) and the maps look nice. But there is one thing, that destroys it all: Gambling. The whole Battleground is just Gambling. You can have a group with 3 Nightblades against a group with 2 healers, 2 sorcerer or 1 heal, 1 tank, 1 nightblade, 1 warden. And if you are in that group with 3 nightblades you can`t do anything, because you are just outplayed no matter what. Now everybody has to start somewhere and while i don`t like being in group with people that don`t understand i am willing to accept that, as part of the Battleground. Next time they might be overpowered. But there is just this problem, that you don`t know who and which class you are going to play with and against. For me it`s to much frustration, when you have a team, that is predestined to not win, due to the nature of the classes in that team.
