Blizzard used to do this in the early days of wow. Downtime after a patch could be up to 2-3 days.
This was 10 years ago and they did tag on extra days to subs. Didn't help those that used cc's for recurring charges but it did help those that used game cards.

Does it matter? ZOS hasn't given compensation for downtime or maintenance since the game went B2Play as far as I can tell. Clearly they don't care about the impact of "bad publicity" or feel the need to compensate, no matter how many threads beg for it.

I have no issues playing and I see well a great many people playing the game and seeing conversations in zone chat of people that play the game just fine. I see a lot go on in Cryodiil with people not having very man issues little to none. So, perhaps it is on your in end maybe your computer or internet connection. I have a friend who plays on xbox and hasn't had too many issues either other then sometimes ZOS/sometimes XBOX.

Any serious company out there cares for their image and I'm sure Zos does too. Nevertheless, they are not obliged to compensate as stated in the TOS which you kindly provided. Eso won't always be as competitive in the coming monthhs/years out in the market and they have to find ways to overcome this somehow. A bad image will hurt the game even more.

I dont really comment on these threads because if PC NA went down, the entire front page would be nothing but emoraging. We can pretend that is not true but we know it is and ive seen it here before. PC NA was down for a few hours while PC EU was up and their were like 5 threads on the front page with multiple pages of rage, demands, etc.

People are frustrated, they complain to vent. Its a once a year event, most people only have a small window to play in each day.

Is ZOS required to give compensations? No, you agreed to their TOS. You can say that is illegal where you are from but i assure you that Zenimax has an entire team of lawyers that specialize in business law that make sure they do what is necessary. That is why they recently changed the TOS because they had to update it mostly for some new EU laws.

Should ZOS give compensation? Absolutely. Its great PR and marketing. Happy customers spend more money. Also you want reviews of your game filled with happy customers not ones complaining about service and bugs and other issues. Forums that are filled with people complaining about problems with the game leave a bad impression. I cannot believe in this day and age game companies have not learned the importance of maintaining good customer relations and the power of the internet and google. I checked reviews for this game and the forums before i even downloaded, as i did many others. To see if it was worth taking a chance on a B2P game. That was months ago and their wasnt a lot of complaining on the forums. Though if i looked at it today and scrolled a few pages back, i might be inclined to skip it and maybe check back in a year to see if its dead or improved.

I passed many games up when i decided to play ESO, for that very reason. So PR is important especially with such easy access to other peoples opinions and experiences. Game companies are slow to learn this. And their are quite a few companies that i wont buy games from because of how they are.

Its not a requirement they make a good will gesture, but it will do far more for them than their current way of going about things.

PS: Im american and play on PC NA.

its not worth their time to explain to you that its not worth your time.

my old job used to compensate customers for internet outages of reasonable length. one particular customer called up and demanded compensation for an hour. so i said fine. this is how we work out compensation:
Your monthly cost x 12 / 365 / 24 = 1hr. For that 1 hour you paid 6.8c so thats what youre entitled to. That enraged him further.

so lets use that on ZOS: $13 x12 /365 /24 = You are entitled to 1.7c compensation per hour of downtime (thats compensation worthy).

Do you really think thats worth your time or theirs? Would it make you feel better or worse if they compensated you that?

It sounds like you are against paying for maintenance. I think its a good idea for them to compensate players, but I don’t know any businesses that do that. Im sure there are some but I’ve never been compensated on anything besides pro-rated insurance and vehicle registration.

The company I work for always compensates for service issues. It's very normal and should be expected.

I get that it's a business and refunding a few pennies every time would be pure silly, but what about a free crown crate? That would be nice. Then again in terms of service they don't guarantee servers to ever be online.... So they could just turn the servers off for 6 months and you wouldn't be due any compensation.
