Maybe because AD has some existing lore prior to ESO and ED has some stuff to do about Skyrim so every alot of people picked ED. DC on the other hand is something that was made up just for ESO and didn't exist prior to ESO also no recent Elder Scrolls game has taken place in DC areas.

My favorite race is Altmer, because they're beautiful, and I get to roleplay a deeply conflicted race, convinced of its own superiority while simultaneously trying to open up to the rest of the world and earnestly help them. The Altmer knowledge and lore-seeking penchant is also a soft-spot for me; I'm an academic in real life, and in Altmer society, wise men and mages are above even princes in the social caste system.
My favorite faction is the Ebonheart Pact, because they are bitter enemies brought together by necessity, which causes almost as much political upheaval as Ayrenn's policies for the Altmer. They also defeated the recent Akaviri Invasion with essentially no help from the Empire, which is pretty badass, and each race has a strong and proud military tradition.
The Convenant... meh. The Redguards are sort of one-trick ponies from a Lore perspective: non-native (over 1k years ago admittedly) migrants who do well with swordplay. The only tension is the Crowns vs Forebears, and that's essentially like democrats vs. republicans; hardly an upheaval. Orcs are ugly (well, at least the ones I try to make anyways), and their whole storyline is "clannish barbarians don't get along with up and coming king" which is literally a fantasy trope. It's subverted after the king turns out to be evil, but it's not nearly as compelling as the Altmeri struggle for personal improvement and to downplay their superiority in favor of participating in the world. And the Bretons.... just kinda do. They're like Medieval France, and there are some vampires or something... bland bland bland.

AD has high elves, which are cool looking and have good racial passives. The Khajiit attract the furries and the Bosmer are cute.
Breton is the worst of the magicka races (Altmer and Dunmer are both stronger) and Orcs and Redguard just don't seem to be that populat even though they're good stamina races.
That's because the stamina to magicka ratio is out of wack. Take a look at Rubedo leather prices sometime and judge from that.
Um...Daggerfall? Redguard? My first played tes game was Daggerfall.
They said no recent TES game. Daggerfall came out over 20 years ago. I guarantee no more than 5% of Skyrim fanboys ever played Daggerfall.
I'd have tried if I could ever get the damn thing to work. DOSbox isn't exactly for the feint of heart.

I guess I have always had a soft spot for them, having just resurrected my DC chars after a long break from using them. I was EP for the longest time there, but that was when EP were less popular on the Xbox EU server.

Gotta agree that Morrowind and Skyrim are to blame for the EP population. But the carebears who love Legolas (holy crap Cyrodiil used to be filled with 10000 variations on Legolas in 2014) certainly are why AD is filled with RPers. Even in Cyrdodiil. Which must add to the frisson of using /emote chat to talk like a bad Jane Austen character. I heard recently an RP guild decided that one of the capturable towns is their HQ and just hang out there to defend it. That's about the coolest thing I've heard community-wise in a long time.
I myself love Hackdirt for some reason and am quite sure I'm alone in my interest in that townI guess I could just talk aloud to myself there to baffle the bimonthly passerbye.
The imbalance in population is nowhere near as bad as it once was. When the three alliances couldn't interact outside of fighting, literally being in different layers of the same zones when in PvE, DC was must further in third place population-wise.
