Why is DC the least played alliance?

It seems, across every server now that DC is the most unpopular alliance, and has the lowest pop by quite a long way. Why is this?

I guess I have always had a soft spot for them, having just resurrected my DC chars after a long break from using them. I was EP for the longest time there, but that was when EP were less popular on the Xbox EU server.

Not sure. Orcs and Redguards (especially orcs) are two of my favourite Elder Scrolls races, but I guess that's not the same for everyone.

I guess people just prefer playing lizard handbags, skooma addicted fuzzballs, and pompous elves. :D

Racial passives arent the best for the base DC races. Plus color theory actually does affect how we perceive DC. It's blue, so less threatening, more calming, perceived as less competitive. Meanwhile EP is red, so more threatening, legit "danger" color, periceved as highly competitive.

More players looking to PvP will gravitate to the alliance they perceive as more competitive

I love orcs and redguards, and some of my favorite houses/design chocies, etc are Breton and redguard but DC itself is kinda.... meh? Breton cities are realistic in terms of the look of medieval city, but they are also realistic in terms of layout... which makes them bloody awful to navigate. stories are good, but compared to EP and AD are not AS exciting to play through.

    its just.... meh.

EP was the most popular faction according to the stats ZOS revealed recently. This makes sense since it contains Skyrim and Morrowind, the two most popular zones in the entire series (due to the single player games taking place there).

AD has high elves, which are cool looking and have good racial passives. The Khajiit attract the furries and the Bosmer are cute.

Breton is the worst of the magicka races (Altmer and Dunmer are both stronger) and Orcs and Redguard just don't seem to be that populat even though they're good stamina races.

Looking at the sheer numbers of DC capturing AD keeps and resources daily on Vivec PC NA, I would hardly have thought DC was the alliance with least numbers.

Perhaps this is an isolated issue on the OP’s platform ?

Maybe because AD has some existing lore prior to ESO and ED has some stuff to do about Skyrim so every alot of people picked ED. DC on the other hand is something that was made up just for ESO and didn't exist prior to ESO also no recent Elder Scrolls game has taken place in DC areas.

It feels the same at times on Xbox NA, I could easily be wrong but it just feels like Davon’s Watch is busier than Glenumbra or Aurido. I imagine a lot has to do with the huge crowd that came into the Elder Scrolls series with Skyrim and are fans of Nords and the EP philosophy.
I am a DC for life, only time I make charactcers in other alliances in when I make test builds. I tried the AD a ways back and while they are pretty cool, I just got tired of the Bosmer focus so much. I play always as a Breton so I also felt out of place. The EP is easily my least favorite as I find Nords generally speaking tiresome, Dunmer and Argonians are cool but again always felt out of place.

I'm primarily a red, have been for years and reds have always had the numbers over dc.

The only time dc outnumbers Reds (in pvp) is at night time with the American zerg who nightcaps.

They are mostly humans and humans are boring.
Most of their zones are generic high fantasy zones with castles and nobles, so i guess people may find the ashes of morrowind or the forests of valenwood more interesting

Maybe it's how they were ordered too. AD is default alliance is you have all race thing. EP thing looks like a dragon. Dragons were in Skyrim. I like dragons. This how I would of thought about when first starting.

One reason I play DC, is because of humans. Is it too much Halo and/or Destiny so I have a soft spot for defending humanity? Is it because I like Hammerfell? RP? Idk to be honest but something about playing as humanity drives me to be DC

Source for EP as having the most characters AND the most PVP kills, and Altmer being the most popular race: https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/26349

Idk if that correlates to highest faction pop in PVP or what source the OP has for DC being the least popular alliance.

No, I am agreeing with what you say. But a couple of years ago, at the start of Xbox release, AD was the most popular alliance followed by EP, then DC. Its now EP, then AD, and still in third, but by an even lower margin, DC. I have just always been curious why this has been the case.

Seems like you’re trying to measure by PvP instead from who plays what.

Yeah, i'm one of them. But still, although metrics are hard to get, with PvP being such a popular activity, watching the vivec population is as close a metric as you get. Plus, also just being in the main "hangout" areas and doing rough headcounts of characters by alliance soon gives you an idea of how the population is spread. And as "Hangouts" go, wayrest is by far the quietest. On Xbox EU, its not even attracting any of the well recognised trading guilds anymore.

EP has Skyrim and Morrowind fans, the two most popular TES games to date

AD has high elves, the most powerful magicka race in the game
AD has khajiits, a popular race because CATS
AD has bosmer, which creepy people seem to really like.

DC has.... What? Redguard, the most powerful stamina race but... >.> obviously it's not enough.
    Hoping for more playable races

That's because the stamina to magicka ratio is out of wack. Take a look at Rubedo leather prices sometime and judge from that.

    So, as an RPer,

My favorite race is Altmer, because they're beautiful, and I get to roleplay a deeply conflicted race, convinced of its own superiority while simultaneously trying to open up to the rest of the world and earnestly help them. The Altmer knowledge and lore-seeking penchant is also a soft-spot for me; I'm an academic in real life, and in Altmer society, wise men and mages are above even princes in the social caste system.

My favorite faction is the Ebonheart Pact, because they are bitter enemies brought together by necessity, which causes almost as much political upheaval as Ayrenn's policies for the Altmer. They also defeated the recent Akaviri Invasion with essentially no help from the Empire, which is pretty badass, and each race has a strong and proud military tradition.

The Convenant... meh. The Redguards are sort of one-trick ponies from a Lore perspective: non-native (over 1k years ago admittedly) migrants who do well with swordplay. The only tension is the Crowns vs Forebears, and that's essentially like democrats vs. republicans; hardly an upheaval. Orcs are ugly (well, at least the ones I try to make anyways), and their whole storyline is "clannish barbarians don't get along with up and coming king" which is literally a fantasy trope. It's subverted after the king turns out to be evil, but it's not nearly as compelling as the Altmeri struggle for personal improvement and to downplay their superiority in favor of participating in the world. And the Bretons.... just kinda do. They're like Medieval France, and there are some vampires or something... bland bland bland.
