New to game - sorcerer help

I've just kinda bumbled along (I think I'm level 23 now?)

I'm not using a "build" (I came from Neverwinter where you basically had to build a character a certain way to even get to the end game easily let alone do any end game content).

That being said:

It seems that for the most part, folks will recommend 1-2 "heavy" armors (chest and head) and light for everything else.
The problem I'm seeming to have at this point is finding decent light armor and heavy that isn't stamina geared for some reason.

So is it better to have armor with a higher Armor value but not magicka abilities?
Or just kinda keep tooling around with my level 9, 13, etc. armor bits with the + magicka features?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm trying to just play the game and learn on my own, but have died a few times (ha!) so I may have reached the level of character in the game where now I need to start focusing on "optimizing" vs. just kinda doing things and then respeccing once I get to end-game.

If anyone has any sorcerer sites not so much about creating a build but the actual theory behind things (this is why you want magicka, this is pros/cons of this fire staff, lighting staff, etc.) at least for progressing (most of what I've found is specific "builds" targeted strictly at end game).

You could have a look at these sites for some advice on skills:

    http://deltiasgaming.com/eso-magic-sorcerer-dps-build/#Group
    https://dottzgaming.com/2017/11/02/eso-sorcerer-leveling-build/

One piece of advice I have picked up is that while levelling its best to level all you class skills (have at least 1 skill from each class line on your front and back bars), and ideally your 1st and 2nd weapon choices to at least the morph stage. This way they are ready for you to use when you get to the end-game - don't just focus on using a handful of skills that may be in the meta build now, as these can change.

Don't worry too much about a full build until you are at least level 50. Until then you just try as many skills, armor types, and weapons as possible to get a feel for what you like. Having many skills leveled is always useful for end game builds. Any gear you find will be quickly outleveled until you reach CP160 (essentially level 66, the gear cap). The built-in level advisor offers some decent build advice early on, but don't be hesitant to try things out for your own. It is cheap and easy to respec everything if you decide you want to move skill or attribute points at any time. Most of the content is very easy as you won't need to worry about building for success until the end game.

7 light is optimal until you have a max level character who's run dungeons so many dozens times that your rank in the Undaunted skill line -- which you're not even eligible for until Level 45 -- is at least 7, and probably actually 9.

While leveling the best gear you can realistically target is 5 pieces of one crafted set, 3 pieces of another, and 3 pieces of a third (dropped) set specifically in jewelry.

You can always carry around other kinds of armor and put them on when you turn in quests. That meets the need people point out for leveling the other armor lines. But wearing 5 light and 2 other stuff is close enough to optimal so that that works too.

The big thing is to always eat good food. Do that and your stats will be plenty good enough. And put all your attribute points into magicka.

There's never any dumb questions when people are trying to learn.

    1) Buy or make blue food - gives you enough stats to not die and do damage.

    2) Update gear every 4 levels or so. Especially when levelling up the first time.

    3) If you offer small amounts of gold and get gear crafted.

Don't worry so much about the enchants on your gear while you're leveling. That won't make a significant difference at that point. As far as armor weights, you should run 5 light for a mag build with 1 heavy and 1 medium. As you're leveling this will help get the passives for heavy and medium while still maintaining the majority of the set bonuses from the light armor passives.

Once you reach level 45 you'll be able to get the undaunted skill line. It has some really nice passives that increase your max states by 2% for each different armor weight you're wearing. So for a lot of builds you would run 5 light, 1 medium, and 1 health as the armor and undaunted passives will give you the best overall stats.

You probably shouldn't worry a whole lot about what sets you're running until you're cp 160. That being said, it wouldn't be a bad idea to find someone to craft you 5 pieces of Julianos in the training trait every 10 levels or so. Keep getting new weapons as you level as their stats tend to drop off pretty quickly.

As far as good sources for theory crafting, you can find some good resources on https://alcasthq.com/ or http://fearturbo.com/. If you want to play around with some builds the UESP build editor is really good for testing new set ups but you probably shouldn't worry about that at this point. Another really good source is ESO streams on twitch or youtube, as there is usually a few solid players on who are developing builds or can answer any questions you have.

It would also be a good idea as a new player to join a guild or try to find some players to consistently play with. Some people to craft gear for you, complete content, or help you with any theory crafting questions you might have.

    Hope this helps!

Don’t worry about build. All of your gears are useless before CP160.

Wear 5 same weight of armor and 1 other weight of armor and 1 another weight of armor. So that:
If you’re looking for tanky path, wear 5h/1m/1l
    stamina path, wear 5m/1h/1l
    magicka path, wear 5l/1h/1m

To minimize loss on resistance on stam/mag path, always try to wear that 1 heavy on slot providing the most resistance (chest, head or legs)
Back from my last hiatus. 2021 a new start.
